NOTE F Class, C Class and Class 6 Weights Tolerances for F Class, C Class and Class 6 Weights are per CPT. 2 Change 4
5 T Class Weights Tolerances for T Class Weights in the CPT are acceptance tolerances. The maintenance tolerances are twice the tolerances listed in the CPT. When a Weight fails to meet the maintenance tolerance it must be adjusted to the acceptance tolerances. Acceptance tolerances also apply to new Weights in for initial calibration. M2 Class Weights Tolerances for M2 Class OIML Weights are per CPT. The acceptance tolerances apply to new Weights in for initial calibration. The maintenance tolerances apply to Weights being calibrated after initial calibration. Unknown Weights Calibrate the Weight and determine the Class or accuracy. Annotate the nominal value (if not listed on the Weight) and Class or accuracy on the Certification Label. 3.6 Annotate the Certification Label with the Class or Accuracy to which the Weight was certified: i.e., T Class or Class 6, or Accuracy ±0.XX% of nominal, whichever is applicable. 4 CALIBRATION PROCESS: NOTE Unless otherwise specified, verify the results of each test and take corrective action whenever the test requirement is not met, before proceeding. 4.1 WEIGHT CALIBRATION: (0 g to 1000 g, 0 to 2 lb) Set Balance Weight Adjusting controls to zero. For electronic Balances, tare the balance to zero and proceed to step Release Balance and allow Optical Scale to come to rest If necessary, zero the Balance Optical Scale Arrest the Balance, if necessary, and carefully place Weight listed in Applied column of CPT on the Balance weighing pan. For electronic Balances, proceed to step Set the Weight Controls to the value of the Applied Weights Release the Balance and adjust the Weight Adjusting controls until the Optical Scale is balanced The Balance must indicate the Applied Weight to within the limits listed in Limits column of CPT. Change 3 3
6 4.1.8 Repeat steps thru for each applicable Weight Remove Weights and arrest Balance. 4.2 WEIGHT CALIBRATION: (Above 1 kg to 50 kg, above 2 lbs to 100 lbs using Mass Comparators) Ensure Mass Comparator being used in the Calibration Process is connected to proper power source and power has been on long enough for a proper warm-up If necessary, zero the Mass Comparator and ensure it maintains a stable zero with no weight on the weighing surface. NOTE Always place Standard Weights and Weights being calibrated in the center of the weighing surface Select a Standard Weight from Weight Set (2.7), (2.8) or (2.9) as applicable, equal to the Weight being calibrated and place on the Mass Comparator weighing surface. Record the indication after stabilization Remove the Standard Weight Zero the Mass Comparator if necessary. Place the Weight being calibrated on the Mass Comparator weighing surface. Record the indication after stabilization The difference between the values recorded in steps and must be within the limits listed in Table 2, 3, 4 or CPT as applicable, for the class Weight being calibrated. The limit for the 5 kg, P/N 56348, is ±1.0 grams Remove Weight being calibrated from Mass Comparator Repeat steps through for each of the remaining Weights being calibrated. NOTE 1 kg = lbs 1 lb = grams 4.2A.7 Add sufficient Weight from the Gram Weight Set to the Balance L pan to return Balance pointer to same position noted in step 4.2A.3. NOTE If Balance pointer indications are not the same, the value of the divisions difference must be added to or subtracted from the Standard Weight value. If indication in step 4.2A.7 is to the right of that in step 4.2A.3, subtract the divisions difference from the Standard Weight value, if to the left add to the Standard Weight. 4.2A.8 The difference between the sum of the Standard Weights and the Weight being calibrated must be within the limits listed in the Limits column of Table 2, 3, 4 or CPT, whichever is applicable. The limit for the 5 kg, P/N 56348, is ±1.0 grams. 4.2A.9 Repeat procedure for each Test Weight. For greater accuracy, repeat the weighing twice and derive the mean. 4.2A.10 Tighten the Balance pan lock and beam arm support and remove Weights from Balance. Change 3 11
