Norsafe reserves the right to change specification without prior notice. 2 GENERL DESCRIPTION The Norsafe R002 davit system is specifically designed for safe and efficient launch and retrieval of partially and totally enclosed lifeboats. It is intended for longterm, reliable operation in harsh and hazardous marine and offshore environments. The davit and winch is designed in accordance with latest NORSOK R002, NMD 853, LS Code and DNV class notation 2.22 requirements. The davit comprises two luffing arms with integrated damping system and an electrically powered winch operating two wire falls. The davit is intended for lifeboats onboard platforms and similar installations where it is necessary for ondeck installation. The winch consists of a housing, grooved drum with integrated winch gears, holding brakes, accumulators, double constant speed devices, electrical motor and dual operation modes. The R002 davit system provides: Launch of lifeboat in maximum load condition Gravity lowering of the loaded lifeboat independent of external power supply Luffing of davit arm by means of stored mechanical power Retrieval of lifeboat with crew of three persons with electric power Retrieval of the lifeboat by air ratchet or manual handcranking Dual operation modes pproval, according to R002 : Damping system for each wire fall acc. to Norsok R002 Winch with Pull&GO and Stop&GO systems, designed acc. to Norsok R002 The davit system is designed to achieve optimum performance in terms of safety and reliability, and minimal maintenance levels. The davit is designed to minimize noise emission and provide straightforward service access. 3 SFETY SYSTEMS Several safety measures have been included in the design so no single failure shall be able to prevent the winch from lowering the lifeboat in a safe manner. Dual operation mode: The winch can operate in two modes: Page 4 of 6
5 Standby Mode Training & Maintenance mode Damping cylinders: To reduce dynamic amplification, the davit is equipped with two damping cylinders, one on each wire routing. Damping cylinder system increases the time and length of stopping the load during emergency braking. It also reduces forces during reentry and lowering under rough sea conditions. Overload protection: n overload relay in the starter cabinet prevents the davit from lifting loads in excess of the Safe Working Load. Two holding brakes: The winch is fitted with two independent hydraulic multidisc brakes. In the event of power loss, the brake will automatically activate and davit motion will stop. Two constant speed devices: Two hydraulic brake pumps control the lowering motion and prevent free fall. If the primary hydraulic brake pump fails, the secondary brake pump will take over. Two accumulators: Two bladder accumulators provide hydraulic pressure to release the holding brakes so that lowering can be initiated. Each accumulator alone has the capacity of opening both holding brakes. Pull and go GREEN / Stop and go RED Pull and go lowering is available in Standby mode. Lowering speed is set to 1 m/s and once lowering of the lifeboat is initiated, the lifeboat will continue until seaborne regardless of any lifeboat crew intervention. Stop and go lowering is available in Training / Maintenance mode. Lowering speed is set to 0.4 m/s and the descent of the lifeboat can be stopped and resumed at any time by the lifeboat crew. Push button controls: To activate the davit, push and hold down the appropriate button to cause the desired operation. When the button is released, davit operation will cease immediately. Indication lamps Indication lamps on the control cabinet and inside the lifeboat show the selected operating mode. Limit switches Electrical limit switches for cutting the power to the winch if the lifeboat is hoisted above its stowed height are placed one on each wire fall. Each of the limit switches is capable of stopping the hoisting motion when the lifeboat reaches its uppermost position. Electrical limit switches on the winch provide failsafe operation of the air ratchet or hand crank. Page 5 of 6
6 Interlock system Lowering of the lifeboat will be prevented unless the davit arm have reached their outmost position. The interlock system consists of pinvalves situated on the davit arm hinge point, which once activated will disengage the winch brake securing pin, and the brake can be released upon the operator s action. 4 SCOPE OF SUPPLY Norsafe supply: Davit steel structure, complete with dampening cylinders and necessary arrangement according to R 002 regulation R002 winch with necessary equipment Required wire and wedge sockets Electrical starter cabinet including start/stop push buttons and mode panel with lights for installation inside the lifeboat. 42 V outlet for boat battery charger. Yard supply: ssembly, erection and welding to deck Deck foundations Electrical wiring to agreed interface Oil filling of winch Testing according to regulation (MSC Part II) pprovals and documentation: In accordance with R002 requirements, included in the document dossier are: 3 sets of user, installation and maintenance manual in English 3 sets of relevant certificates comprising: Davit certificate and R002 compliance statement SOLS Type approval certificate. Components certification documents Spare parts: detailed parts list is included in the instruction manual and documentation dossier.
