PT1 9wk Test Study Guide Name: Your 9-wk test is on Thursday March 28. You are required to complete this study guide by middle of class Wednesday March 27. It will be counted as an assignment grade. Complete all work on these pages. SRC League Rules 1. More than one motor can be installed in a car. 2. The SRC STEM League starts in September and finishes in: March April May June 3. Ten80 is available to partner on grants that will fund team activities. 4. The max number of points you can get for a race event is: Which one of the following is a way you can earn points as an SRC team: points race regional competition project showcase all of the above 6. List the two types of sanctioned races? 7. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mechanics.
8. Monthly challenges are which means that teams can do them anytime between their release and the deadline. 9. Teams can be comprised of students from more than one school 10. If you have 6 cars you can enter 6 teams. 11. Name one thing you can do that allows you to get as many points as you want as often as you can (i.e. name one "recurring points" category). 12. Points are submitted using your located on the SRC website link which is. 13. When measuring time during a race event it is better to have people How many race event options are there? It is ok to purchase cars from unsanctioned suppliers. 16. Name 4 things that you can do during the season to earn points for the points race. 17. The maximum car battery voltage that is allowed is: 7.2V 8.4V 9.2V 10.4V
18. Teams are permitted to pay for manufacturing or fabrication of custom made parts for their car. 19. Name two ways/points categories for which you can only earn points one time. 20. The name of Ten80's president is Terri Stripling. Pre-Assessment 1 and Five minutes, thirty four seconds and three one hundredths of a second can be written out in numbers as: (3pts) 22. Johnny Rage is completing two trials with his RC car and takes three measurements for each trial recording his lap time for each trial. In the space below, draw what the data table would look like. Be careful to title all rows and columns correctly. (2pts) 23. The graph below represents data collected for an RC car being driven down a straight track during an investigation. Use it to answer the questions that follow. a) How many sets of data are shown on the graph? (1pt) b) How many trials did each team complete? (1pts) c) Another name for trial is. (1pt)
d) If the graph represents times for each trial label the y-axis and the x-axis with the correct titles directly on the graph above. (2pts) e) Assuming the time for each trial was measured in seconds label the correct units (in parentheses) after your x- and y-axis titles. (2pts) f) The average time for Team 2 is seconds. (2pts) g) The team with the least consistent trial times is Team. (1pt) h) The team with the fastest times is Team. (1pt) i) If the track used in this investigation was 200inches long the speed of the fastest team from question h is (make sure to include the correct units) (2pts) Math2Go Challenges 1 and The graph below is similar to the one you created for Math2Go Challenge 1. There were three times collected for each trial in each set. a) Explain, as if you were trying talking to a 9yr old, what the results on this graph show? (2pts) b) The length of the track is. (1pt) c) The variable being measured on the Y-axis is and its units are measured in. (2pts) d) How many different sets are shown in this graph? (1pt) e) Circle and then label each set as Walk, Run or Drive. (2pts) f) What set took the longest overall? (1pt) g) Draw a line of best fit through the Drive set. (1pt) h) Why was more than one trial performed for each set? (1pt) i) What is the trial range for the Walk set in Trial Number 2? (2pts)
25. The graph below is the one you created for Math2Go Challenge 2. a) Explain, as if you were trying talking to a 9yr old, what the results on this graph show? (2pts) b) The variable being measured on the X-axis is and was measured in units (2pts) c) According to the graph what three different drive distances were used in this challenge? (1pt) d) What two variables/measurements are required to calculate speed? (2pts) e) According to the graph is the top speed of a car significantly affected by the drive distance? 1pt) f) Why does your answer to part e make sense? (1pt)
Work and Power 26. Describe what WORK is (describe in words and using formula)? 27. Describe what POWER is (describe in words and using formula)? 28. Identify how work and power are different from one another. 29. If Johnny Blaze s car applies a force of 25N to the ground and the track length is 20m use GFS to find out how much work his car was doing (Hint: W=Fxd)? 30. What part of the SRC car generates the power required for the car to move? 31. Explain the effect that adding more weight to an SRC car body will have on the POWER of the car (before hitting max power). 32. What would a sketch of a Power vs. Time graph look like if you added more and more weight to the body of a car until it got so heavy it stopped moving?
