3 ASPECSS Rationale and Objectives InEurope (EU 27), pedestrians account for more than 19% of road fatalities Most accidents with pedestrians are caused by the driver being in alert or misinterpretation thesituation Potential for combined active passive safety systems Systems offered at the market or close to introduction Test and evaluation procedures needed to enable widespread introduction Goals ASPECSS are to develop harmonized test and assessment procedures including A methodology for balancing direct active safety benefit Methods and means to adaptpassivepassive safety test conditions for scenarios with preceding pre crash action Test targets representing pedestrians: surrogates mimicking pedestrians for various sensor types is needed PNCAP WG Meeting 3 6 June 2011, Brussels

9 Target Requirements Camera, PMD and IR Long sleeved shirt and trousers which have different colors. Requirement on minimum contrast with the scene Preferred colors could be based on real life situations like blue jeans in combination with a light colored shirt. Clothing has to be loosely fitted Skin temperature of the dummy 32 C +/ 2 C At locations with clothing measured below the clothing Thermal emission must not exceed 10 W/m²K. Visible parts of the dummy mounting and guidance system must have a temperature deviation of max +/ 5 C from the ambient temperature The IR reflectivity (around 850 nm wavelength) of the clothes must be within the range of 40 to 60%.
