1 General Guidelines It is the user s responsibility to read and follow all instructions. Instructions for Part # SDSH Keep these instructions with the product at all times and review before each use. It is the responsibility of this product s owner to furnish the instructions to any person that borrows or purchases the product. Inspect the product before use to ensure it is assembled properly and all parts are in safe working order and free of defects. Never modify this product in any way. NOTE: OSHA 29CFR, Chapter XVII, Part (a)(4) reads Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation (of a fork truck) shall not be performed by the customer or user without manufacturer s prior written approval. Capacity, operation, and maintenance instruction plates, tags, or decals shall be changed accordingly. Read and understand all warning and caution labels. It is important that all labels are in place and legible. All circumstances cannot be addressed in these instructions. Please use common sense and practice general safety measures when using this product. Parts and/or instructions are subject to change without notice. Safety Before work is started or performed, any load on the hopper must be removed. Make sure that the hopper is secured before any work is performed. Make sure operating personnel understand all hopper operating procedures before operating or servicing these steel hoppers. If any unusual noise is heard, STOP operation and conduct a thorough inspection. Make sure the hopper is locked in place and secured to the forklift truck s fork mast prior to operating. After each use, inspect the entire hopper and report to your supervisor anything unusual or any damages. Maintenance and repairs of this hopper are to be performed by trained/qualified personnel only. Page 1

3 Assembly Step 1. Attach the latch bracket to the chute using the four lock washers and four bolts. Secure tightly with a socket wrench. Fig. 1a Fig. 1b Fig. 1c Step 2. Remove the pin from the latch arm assembly on the base using pliers. Allow the bar to slide through the bracket hole, then secure using a washer and reinserting the pin. Bend the end of the pin to keep it in place. Fig. 2a Fig. 2b Step 3. Connect the chute to the base assembly. Align the hinge bracket on the chute between the two hinge brackets on the base. On the other side, the latch bracket should be aligned with the latch arm assembly (See Fig. 3b). Insert the hinge pin through the hinge brackets. Each end should be secured using a washer and spring pin. Bend the end of the pin to secure it in place. Fig. 3a Fig. 3b Fig. 3c Page 3

4 Step 4. Attach the chain to the base. Fig. 4 Operation All persons intending to operate this hopper with a forklift must understand the following directive: OSHA 29CFR, Chapter XVII,Part (a) (5) reads If (a fork) truck is equipped with front-end attachments other than factory installed attachments, the user shall request that the truck be marked to identify the attachments and show the approximate weight of the truck and attachment combination at maximum elevation with load laterally centered. LOADING The hopper s load rating appears on the hopper s product label on the backside of the hopper. CAUTION: Before loading the hopper, make sure the hopper is locked in the upright position. Step 1. Insert the forklift truck s forks into the hopper s pockets at the backside of the hopper. Completely insert the forks on the Low Profile models. (Fig. 5) Fig. 5 Step 2. On Front Release models insert the forks until they make contact with the fork tube stops. Step 3. Use the safety chain to secure the hopper to the forklift truck s fork carriage. Wrap the chain around part of the fork carriage and put the chain s snap hook through one of the chain links with only a little slack. (Fig. 6) Step 4. Situate the release cable within a reachable distance of the forklift truck driver to allow for dumping. (Fig. 7) Fig. 6 Fig. 7 Page 4

5 Step 5. Position the front of the hopper to one side of the dumpster or refuse container. Fig. 8 Step 6. The forklift truck mast must then be lifted and tilted forward until the hopper is at the proper height to allow the front part of its frame to just touch the top of the dumpster or refuse container s side. NOTE: Allow enough room for the hopper to rotate forward without touching any obstacles. WARNING: Keep all persons away from the hopper and the dump area before releasing the hopper. Step 7. The release cable can be operated from the driver s position on the forklift truck. WARNING: Never enwrap a body part with the hopper s release cable. Step 9. After dumping, tilt the forklift truck mast back, then slowly move away from the waste container and lower the hopper. Step 10. Lower hopper to the ground in order to return it to the upright locked position. CAUTION: Never use the hopper if damaged or if any abnormal motion is detected, if in need of repair work, or if malfunctioning. Always notify your supervisor and maintenance crew if anything out of the ordinary is observed. NOTE: Ensure all safety and warning labels are in place and legible. Maintenance Prior to each operation, the procedures below MUST be followed: 1. Inspect self-dumping hopper for any sign of structural damage or deformation. 2. Ensure that all cables are in place and in good working condition. 3. Listen for unusual structural noise or any evidence of binding occurring. 4. Check that all latching components are in good working order. 5. Check that all latching and releasing mechanisms are in good working order. 6. Inspect for pivot point wear. 7. Inspect to ensure all rods and pins are in good working condition. 8. Make sure all required warning labels are in place and legible. 9. Make sure pivoting and latching areas are free of dirt or debris. 10. Contact qualified personnel only to perform any maintenance required. Page 5

6 Product Warranty and Liability GENERAL PRODUCT WARRANTY: Products purchased from the Authorized Dealer (original place of purchase) or Merchant ( Dealer ) will be free of defects in material and workmanship at the time of receipt, and will meet the specifications stated at the place of purchase transaction or online at the Dealer s website, under normal use and service when correctly installed, operated and maintained. This product warranty is effective for the period of time stated below, unless otherwise stated in the product instructions or depicted in the product advertisement. All Authorized Dealer warranties are NON-TRANSFERABLE and cover only the original end purchaser. This limited warranty does not cover products purchased through non-authorized dealers. Non-authorized dealer receipts are not accepted for warranty verification. ***Warranty claims must be made directly to the original place of purchase.*** WARRANTY PERIOD: This warranty remains in force for one year from the date of the product s accepted delivery. The Authorized Dealer offers a one year manufacturer s warranty for most products unless otherwise specified on the product advertisement. WARRANTY SERVICE: The Authorized Dealer will replace any defective or malfunctioning part at no charge, including payment of the shipping costs of parts or replacement product to and from the manufacturer. The purchaser is responsible for labor charges. If the product does not meet specifications as depicted in the advertisement, the Authorized Dealer will refund the full purchase price of the product. Questions regarding the warranty on a specific product and warranty claims should be directed to the Authorized Dealer with whom the purchase transaction was made. WARRANTY LIMITATIONS: The above warranty does not apply to products that are repaired, modified or altered by any party other than the Authorized Dealer; are subjected to unusual physical stress or conditions (such as overloaded ramps or corrosion), natural disaster, governmental actions, wars, strikes, labor disputes, riots, theft, vandalism, terrorism or any reason beyond reasonable control; are damaged due to improper installation, misuse, abuse, accident or negligence in use, storage, transportation or handling, or tampering; or to products that are considered consumable items or items requiring repair or replacement due to normal wear and tear. Product should be inspected prior to signing for delivery. Product damage incurred during shipping, unless noted on the Bill of Lading at the time of delivery, renders this warranty void. LIMITED LIABILITY: In no event shall THE AUTHORIZED DEALER be liable to the purchaser or any third party for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary or punitive damages arising out of the use of the product, including, without limitation, property damage, loss of value of the product or any third party products that are used in or with the product, or loss of use of the product or any third party products that are used in or with the product.
