1 Standby Generator Quick Reference Guide This quick reference guide is intended to be used by the customer in conjunction with the manufacturers published Owner s Manual and is in no was intended to replace the Owner s Manual.

2 Authorized Dealer Please take a moment to review these few steps to ensure that your Generac generator is ready to go in the event of a power failure. 1. If you are using LP, propane, fuel take a look at your fuel tanks and make sure it or they are above the 20% mark. The gauge should be on top of the tank where they fill them from. 2. Go to the generator and unlock (if necessary) the lid and raise it to the upright position. Is the auto-off-manual switch (located above the display) in the right position? Does the display read Ready to Run and is displaying the current date and time? 3. Is the RED light on? Is there an error message? You can try clearing the message by Switching to OFF press ENTER, press ESC and switch to Auto. If light turns GREEN and generator starts up and light remains green it may have been a false alarm. 4. Check the oil level the display is clearly marked on the left side of the engine (all models) oil level should read between the full and add marks on the cross hatched area. DO NOT OVERFILL. Only if necessary, add oil in small amounts 5W-30 synthetic oil is preferred but conventional oil will work without damage to engine. It is very important that you don t overfill as maximum capacity is less than 2 quarts (all models). Oil level should be checked when not running. See complete instructions below 5. Make sure the generator main circuit breaker is off, the generator will run, however, no power will reach the transfer switch. 6. Also check the sides of the generator to make sure that the air intake and exhaust openings are clear of debris, grass clipping, leaves and deep snow. These few steps should make you secure in the knowing that your Generac generator is ready for the next unpredictable power failure.

3 In the event of an extended power outage You must complete the following two procedures every 24 hours to insure your generator is in proper working order and will continue to run for the duration of the power outage 1) Check the oil level Oil level should be checked when not running. a) Go to the generator and unlock (if necessary) the lid and raise it to the upright position. b) Turn the Auto/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF c) Open the side compartment and switch the generator main circuit breaker OFF. d) If your generator has a dipstick similar to either of the illustrations below. (1) Remove the dipstick and wipe dry with a clean cloth. (2) Completely insert the dipstick; then remove it again. The oil level should be at the dipstick Full mark. If necessary add oil to the Full mark only (see below). (3) Install the dipstick

4 e) If your generator does not a have a dipstick the oil level display is clearly marked on the left side of the engine. Oil level should read between the full and add marks on the cross hatched area. f) DO NOT OVERFILL. Only if necessary, add oil in small amounts 5W-30 synthetic oil is preferred but conventional oil will work without damage to engine. 6 Maintenance Message: Interval Inspect Battery 1 Year Change Oil & Filter 200 hours or 2 years, 100 hours or 2 years on 20kW models Inspect Air Filter 220 Hours or 2 years Change Air Filter 200 Hours Or 2 years Inspect Spark Plugs Change spark Plugs CORRECTIVE ACTION: When a maintenance period expires, a warning message will be displayed. (16 through 20kW models include an external yellow LED which will illuminate.) The alert can be reset by pressing the Enter key, which will cause the user to be prompted to confirm the action by pressing the Enter key. Resetting will clear the alert and reset the maintenance counters for all conditions annunciated. The history log will record the alert. The maintenance counter will not accumulate without battery power. Once battery power is restored, the set time prompt will be displayed. The maintenance counters will be adjusted to the new time and date. NOTE: Since most maintenance alerts will occur at the same time (most have two (2) year intervals), only one will appear on the display at any one time. 7 Troubleshooting Problem Cause Action The Engine will not crank 1. Fuse blown 2. Dead Battery 3. Other mechanical issues 1. Replace 7.5A fuse in generator nexus control panel 2. Charge or replace battery 3. Call for assistance The Engine cranks but will not start 1. Out of fuel or low fuel pressure 2. Other mechanical issues 1. Verify propane tanks are above 20%. Replenish if needed. 2. Call for assistance The power is out and the generator did not turn on 1. AUTO/OFF/MANUAL Switch 2. Other mechanical issues 1. Check to be sure the switch is in the AUTO position 2. Call for assistance The power is out and the generator is running but you have no power 1. Generator main circuit breaker 2. Other mechanical issues 1. Check to be sure the breaker is ON 2. Call for assistance Wireless monitor displays Lost Radio Link 1. Wireless monitor has lost its radio signal 1. Follow the enclosed directions for Resetting the Wireless Display Wireless monitor or generator display says Warning! Inspect Battery 1. Automatic maintenance reminder 2. Other mechanical issues 1. Pres Enter, confirm by pressing Enter again and the preprogrammed message will clear. 8 Resetting the Wireless Display 1. Go to the generator and unlock (if necessary) the lid and raise it to the upright position. 2. Unscrew the protective cover over the control area on the right 3. Reset the generator transceiver by unplugging and then reconnecting the 8-way connector. (all the way in the back) 3. IMMEDIATELY turn on the remote unit. Up to one minute will pass while the generator and remote unit synchronize. 4. The display will show that it is searching for the generator and the yellow LED may flash occasionally as it receives data from the generator transceiver. This is due to the unit searching for the correct channel. 5. Once the generator is found, the radio link is now established and the settings will be remembered next time the display unit is turned on. If the generator is not found, an error message will briefly be shown, and the yellow LED will flash at one (1) second intervals to indicate the display unit was unable to find the generator & please call for further assistance.

9 When your monitor or generator display says Warning! Inspect Battery Does your generator meet any of the following criteria? Is less than 1 year old Has been serviced by a Generac Factory Trained Technician within the last 30 days and was determined to be in excellent working order. If you generator does not meet any of the above criteria please Jones Services & Generator Experts If your generator does meet the above mentioned criteria please follow the following steps for resetting your automatic battery inspection alarm. Resetting the Battery Inspection Alarm 1. Unlock and open the lid of the generator. 2. Press the ESC button on your Nexus Controller display until the Main Menu 3. Select Edit 4. Select Reset Maintenance Changing your generator s weekly exercise day and/or time Your generator is equipped with an exercise timer. The generator will start and exercise every seven days on the day of the week and time specified. 1. Unlock and open the lid of the generator. 2. Press the ESC button on your Nexus Controller display until the Main Menu 3. Select Edit 4. Select Exercise Time 5. Select the time and day of your choice

10 Checking your Generator Runtime Hours Runtime hours are essentially your generators mileage Generac maintenance guidelines state that a complete check-up and tune-up be performed every 2 years or 200 hours of runtime, whichever occurs first. It is recommended you check your generators runtime hours every few months and after every significant power outage (24hrs or more). If you have exceeded or are approaching 200 hours please call to schedule maintenance Unlock and open the lid of the generator. 2. Press the ESC button on your Nexus Controller display until the Main Menu 3. Select Status 4. Select Display 5. Select Engine Run hours
