This sensor monitors a timing rotor located on the camshaft and is used by the EM to detect the camshaft angle. The camshaft rotation synchronizes with the crankshaft rotation, and this sensor communicates the rotation of the camshaft timing rotor as a pulse signal to the EM. Based on the signal, the EM controls fuel injection time and ignition timing. If there is no signal from the camshaft position sensor even though the engine is turning or the rotation of the camshaft and the crankshaft is not synchronized, the EM interprets this as a malfunction in the sensor and sets a DT. 4 DI640 DIAGNOSTIS EINE (2UZFE) INSPETION PROEDURE HINT: Read freeze frame data using the handheld tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the airfuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data from the time when a malfunction occurred. 1 Inspect resistance of VVT sensor (See page SF78).
