3 CLEANING FINGER STOCK AND KNIFE EDGE PROCEDURE This RF door and frame has a recessed contact mechanism for protection against damage to the contact fingers. It is important that the knife-edge and finger pocket be cleaned regularly to maintain the proper RF attenuation characteristics of the door. The frequency of regular maintenance depends on usage and building condition. Standard conditions will require the door(s) be cleaned at least one time per month. Dusty and dirty conditions will require the door(s) be cleaned two times per week. Normal office type conditions require the door(s) be cleaned one time in two to three week intervals. During the cleaning of any RF contact area such as Door Knife or Frame finger pocket it is important to use only a non-flammable cleaner. DO NOT use silicone or Teflon base lubricant. These silicone or Teflon based lubricants leave film, which electrically insulates the contact fingers from the knife-edge in addition to holding dust and dirt. Electrical contact cleaner is available from Global Partners in Shielding, Inc. in spray cans. To clean the Door Knife edge first wipe down the knife-edge with a soft rag wetted with contact cleaner to remove dust build-up. Brighten the knife-edge using a 3M Scotch Brite nylon pad or equal. Finally, clean the knife-edge a second time with a clean wipe or rag and contact cleaner to ensure total removal of all dust and film. To clean the Frame contact fingers in the pocket, place a rag at the bottom of the pocket at the floor. Using a spray can, start at the doorframe head and spray contact cleaner onto the fingers to flush them with cleaner as you work your way down the pocket to the sill. The contact cleaner will lift and wash away the dirt and quickly evaporate leaving a clean dirt free contact surface on the finger. The wipe at the bottom of the frame will catch the excess spray run-off. Repeat this process if any dirt remains. The RF gasket on the jamb, head and bottom of the door should be inspected for damage. Floor wax, dirt and grease will be detrimental to the function of the RF seal at the door bottom, and should be removed. Instruct staff in the area not to apply cleaning products (floor polish) to the sill, or any other functional parts of the door assembly. Compressed air (in an aerosol can) or a soft brush should be used to remove dust and dirt from around the gasket and at bottom of the door. Mechanical cleaning must be exercised with care so as not to damage the RF gasket. Page 3 12

4 CLEANING THE DOOR SILL PROCEDURE Door sills must be checked frequently for any accumulation of dirt and debris. This area should be vacuumed frequently and kept free of floor wax or any other floor coating. For pocket sills, follow the procedure outlined for cleaning fingers around the door. Flat sill should be brightened with a Scotch Brite pad or equal then cleaned with contact cleaner. For flush sills with doors having fingers under the bottom edge of the door, check for any damage to fingers that may have been caused by small objects or heavy floor grit. If any fingers are broken or damaged refer to Paragraph 5-Broken Finger stock Replacement. Page 4 12

5 CAM BLOCKS PROCEDURE There are cam followers on the leading (opening) edge of the RF door. The cam mechanism does not affect the RF integrity of the door; therefore, it may be lubricated with a silicone-based product. A very slight amount is all that is necessary. If any lubricant should get on the fingers or door knife they should be washed off following the procedure listed in Clean Fingers and Knife Edge. Cam followers should be checked periodically to ensure that they have not loosened from the rack. The cam hooks should be checked periodically for cleanliness and firm mounting on the doorframe. 6 DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE The door handle assembly on your RF Shielding door is of the finest quality available in the RF field today. The handle assembly is free moving and yet affords the highest attenuation level available and does not need any maintenance after installation. It will operate trouble free for a long period of time. If the door handle assembly is damaged for example by heavy equipment movement etc., contact Global Partners in Shielding, Inc. for repair or replacement. The handle, shown on page 12 can be easily replace by removing the screws, lift off the damaged handle and replace with a new one. To remove handle hub, remove the handles and slid the hub off of the shaft. Page 6 12

7 BROKEN FINGER STOCK REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE The RF fingers are held in the pocket of the frame by a J molding attached to the frame by stainless steel or brass pan head screw. Remove the screws and the J molding from the broken finger side. Slide off the length(s) of finger stock that are damaged. If necessary, cut the replacement RF finger stock to size, insert it back in place, and re-install the J molding with the screws. The same procedure is followed to replace the fingers on the bottom of the door having a flush sill. With the door in an open position, unbolt the brass finger retention plates from the bottom of the door leaf. These plates will then drop off. Inspect the fingers and replace those that may be damaged. Clean the finger stock and reattach the strip onto the door bottom of the door leaf. 8 DOOR ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE PROCEDURE The door is factory aligned in the frame by our personnel at the time of manufacture. The knife-edge must seat evenly into the doorframe pocket to ensure even contact with the pocket gasket. If it becomes necessary to slightly raise or lower the door, this can be done by tightening or loosening the Allen head adjustment screws located at the top of each hinge pin. This procedure should be done only when the door is in the open position. Frequently recheck the door elevation so as not to over adjust the door Page 8 12
