3 6 FEATURES The dermatoscope GIMA - 10X (cod ) is a superficial microscope featuring a 2,5 V halogen illumination (code spare part), which allows observing the true colour of tissues and magnifying up to 10 times, making it possible to carefully observe the details and make an accurate diagnosis of skin lesions. The dermatoscope GIMA - 10X is provided with a bayonet fitting to connect the head unit to the handle. It is also provided with a rheostat to adjust the intensity of light and a lens for a 10X magnification. To focus it is sufficient to rotate the sterilizing millimetre eyepiece. The dermatoscope is delivered in a smart imitation leather case to make transport easier and to protect it. The product or its components cannot be used for purposes different from the one specified in the present manual. PRESCRIPTIONS The product shall be used exclusively with alkaline batteries type C correctly installed. It shall not be dipped into water! When cleaning, make sure that the lamp socket or the battery compartment is not soaked with water. The product shall be used by specialized medical personnel only, Do not use the equipment in case it is damaged. Apply to your retailer. Avoid precarious repairs. Repairs shall be carried out with original spare parts only, which shall be installed according to the intended use. Since the product is made of corrosion-proof materials suitable for the enviromental conditions foreseen for its normal use, does not require special care, however it is necessary to store it in a closed place making sure that is protected from dust and dirt to assure its hygenic conditions. Moreover, it is recommended to store the product in a place which can be reached easily by the personnel in case of necessity. UNPACKING Always remember that packing elements (paper, cellophane, stitches, adhesive tape, etc.) can cut and/or hurt if they are not carefully handled. They shall be removed with adequate means and shall not be left at the mercy of irresponsible persons; the same is valid for tools used to remove packages (scissors, knives, etc.). After opening the packages, first of all it is necessary to check all pieces and parts composing the product. Check that they are all present and in perfect conditions. INSTALLATION Before using it, it is necessary to insert the batteries into the apposite compartment. Proceed as follows: - Open the battery compartment. To do this counterclockwise turn the apposite ring nut located on the handle. - Once opened, insert the batteries paying attention to the direction of poles (see picture). - To close the battery compartment, clockwise screw down the ring nut and check that the batteries are in contact with poles. - In case the dermatoscope head unit separates from the handle, proceed as follows:

4 To hold the dermatoscope handle and head group, counter-clockwise turn this last one until a click is heard, at this point it is possible to take the head off. To insert the head, make the bayonet cap grooves match, push the head towards the bottom and clockwise rotate it. - The operation necessary to remove and replace the contact plate is very simple: Counterclockwise rotate the plate and draw it out of its seat. To reposition the plate, insert it into the head group, make the groove match with the small pivots and clockwises rotate. OPERATION The examiner shall turn on the light by means of the black knurled ring nut located on the handle upper side. The dermatoscope is equipped with a rheostat. Thus pressing the white pushbutton and slowly clockwise rotating the ring nut it is possible to increase the intensity of light. Counter-clockwise rotate the ring nut to turn down the light until it is off. After the use, make sure that the light is off. MAINTENANCE Periodically check the battery conditions, making sure that no sign of corrosion or oxidation is present, in case of necessity replace them with new alkaline ones. Carefully handle the batteries as the liquids they contain can irritate skin and eyes. Before being used, thoroughly check the product. The same operation shall be carried out after cleaning. -Check that the connection between the head and the handle is perfect and that the rheostat correctly works. -If the light is intermittent or in case it does not turn on, check the bulb, the batteries and the electric contacts. In case the bulb stops working, it is possible to replace it with original spare parts (cod ). To replace the bulb it is sufficient to take the head unit off and remove the contact plate. Inside the head, the bulb is visible. To take it out it is advisable to use tweezers, pay attention not to damage the connector. To reinsert it, is necessary to make the projection at the base of the bulb and the groove in the seat match. It is advisable to use only original bulbs. Before removing the bulb, make sure that the instrument has been off for some minutes; otherwise you run the risk of being burnt Before using it, disinfect the instrument in full or in part (according to the doctor s opinion). Remove the contact plate or the eyepiece, which usually need a better cleaning; do not clean the bulb or the batteries with inadequate detergents or disinfectants. The glass shall be cleaned by means of a cotton cloth dampened with 70% ethyl alcohol or a watercleansing milk solution. Never use abrasive materials to clean the glass to avoid permanent damages. -It is advisable to always have new bulbs and batteries at disposal for the maximum light. -The dermatoscope head and handle can be cleaned with a cloth soaked with disinfectant, however they cannot be dipped into liquids. The product has been conceived to last forever; it is resistant to most part of chemicals except for methyl ethyl ketones (M.E.K.), diluents and nail polish removers. All internal parts are brass and stainless steel plated preventing rusting. If the lamp is exposed to humidity remove the batteries, thoroughly dry to avoid short-circuits. 7

5 GUARANTEE Thank you for having acquired our product. This product meets the most stringent requirements regarding the selection of quality manufacturing materials and also the final control. The product has a 12-month warranty, valid from the date it is delivered by GIMA. During the guarantee period free repair and/or replacement of any defective parts due to faulty manufacture will be given, labour, postal, transport and packaging charges etc. are not included. The guarantee therefore excludes components subject to wear and tear such as parts in rubber or PVC, doppler probes, SpO 2 sensors, lamps, batteries, electrodes, handpieces, washers and packings, resistances, etc. No compensation will be given for loss of use of the product. Furthermore replacement or repairs effected during the guarantee period do not lengthen the duration of the guarantee. This guarantee is void in the event of: repairs effected by unauthorised persons or with spare parts not approved by GIMA, damage or defects caused by negligence, blows, abnormal use of the appliance or faulty installation. The guarantee will be invalidated if the registration number has been removed, cancelled or altered. Faulty appliances must be returned only to the retailer where the item was bought. Any item dispatched directly to us will be refused. 8
