6 M2. Primary seat belt laws allow law enforcement officers to ticket a driver for not wearing a seat belt, without any other traffic offense taking place. Massachusetts currently requires ignition interlock devices for drunk driving repeat offenders. Do you an ignition interlock law, which would require all drunk driving offenders, including first time offenders, to breathe into a device that prevents a vehicle from starting if the driver has been drinking? The majority of teen car crashes occur in the late evening/early morning hours. Currently, nighttime driving restrictions prohibit drivers under the age of 18 from operating a vehicle between 12:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Would you expanding the nighttime restriction for drivers under the age of 18 to 11:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.? M6. Massachusetts requires license applicants under the age 18 to take an approved driver education program and also requires their parent or legal guardian to attend a 2-hour in-person class about driver education.
