7 Glossary Base Record The first available record. Body shape: is the physical shape of the vehicle (for example, sedan, wagon, hatch). Cancellation Refers to either automatic or voluntary. Automatic cancellation occurs when registration payment is not received within 60 days of the expiry date or is not received for some other acceptable reason. Voluntary cancellation of registration is at the registered operator's request, the request may be as a result of the vehicle: being for sale, stolen or destroyed, re-registered interstate, no longer used on roads, involved in an accident. Colour Cylinders or Rotors Engine number Exempt writtenoff inspection Make Model New business Is the exterior paint of a vehicle. A vehicle can have two colours; primary which is the more predominant colour and secondary, which is the less predominant colour. Cylinders or rotors are the vehicles method of propulsion. Identifies the motor of a motor vehicle/bike and is any combination of letters/numbers and may vary in length. Queensland Transport has deemed that the damage (for example, hail) sustained by a vehicle is not sufficient to warrant a written-off vehicle inspection. The name of the manufacturer (for example, Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi). The name of the family that relates to the make (for example, Falcon, Commodore, Lancer). All odometer readings appearing on this document have been extracted from information provided by industry or individuals and therefore Queensland Transport does not warrant the accuracy of these readings. As inspection has been completed for a vehicle which was previously classified as a repairable write-off. Plate transfer This indicates that: new plates have been issued due to the original plates being lost, damaged or stolen customised or personalised plates have been removed or attached 7

8 REVS/Security The register of security interests (otherwise known as REVS) Interest provides access to a database of vehicles that have money owing Certificate on them. When a bank, finance company or individual takes out an interest in a vehicle (that is, provides a loan to the owner) they register their interest in the vehicle with the Department of tourism Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development. Police report reference number Postcode The reference number identifying the stolen vehicle report. The postcode of the address at which the vehicle has been or is garaged. Seating capacity The number of all seated adult persons including the driver legally permitted in a vehicle at any one time. Vehicle A unique alpha numeric combination of 17 characters identification assigned to a vehicle. It does not contain the letters I, O or Q. number (VIN) Written-off Vehicles Those vehicles which have been in an accident, or suffered some form of water, fire or malicious damage. Written-off vehicles are classified as either a statutory or repairable write-off. Repairable A vehicle that has been assessed as uneconomical to repair. The write-off vehicle will only be re-registered if it is repaired and passes a written-off vehicle inspection and Safety Certificate inspection. Statutory A vehicle that is too badly damaged to be repaired to a standard that is write-off safe for road use, therefore it is suitable only for use as parts or scrap. The vehicle will not be allowed to be re-registered. These vehicles include: - A motor vehicle or trailer, other than a motorbike, that has been immersed: in salt water above the doorsill level for any period in fresh water up to the dashboard or steering wheel for more than 48 hours - A motorbike that has been fully immersed: in salt water for any period - in fresh water for more than 48 hours - A motor vehicle or trailer that has been burnt to the extent that it is fit only for wrecking or scrap. - A motor vehicle or trailer that has been stripped of all, or a combination or most, interior and exterior body parts, panels and components. Examples of body parts, panels and components; engine, wheels, bonnet, guards, doors, boot. - A motor vehicle, other than a motorbike, that has been damaged by at least three of the following impact damage indicators: damage to an area of the roof equal to or exceeding 300mm x 300mm 8

9 damage to an area of the cabin floor pan equal to or exceeding 300mm x 300mm damage to an area of the firewall equal to or exceeding 300mm x 300mm any damage to the suspension damage in the form of cracks or breaks to major mechanical components (examples of major mechanical components - engine block, transmission casings) - A motorbike that has: impact damage, other than scratching, to the suspension and at least two areas of structural frame damage Transfer Registration A change of registered operator (that is, the person responsible for the operation of the vehicle) Written-off Vehicle damage details: Dismantled - a statutory write-off that is stripped of interior and exterior body parts, panels and components Fire damage - sections or all of the vehicle has been burnt by fire Hail damage - sections or all of the vehicle has been damaged by hail Impact damage - damage caused, due to violent contact with another object Malicious damage - wilful damage or destruction of a vehicle Refer jurisdiction - contact the registration authority displayed in the 'state of registration' Unrecovered theft - a stolen vehicle that has not been recovered - contact the relevant registration authority Water damage** - immersed in fresh or salt water 9
