5 McCauley Industrial Corporation PARKER AVE AT HOWELL. BOX 7, ROOSEVELT STA. DAYTON. OHIO Area Code Cable Address: McCauley DOA APPROVED APRIL 21, 1971 NECESSARY AND REQUIRED ACTION (PRIOR TO OVERHAUL) This Bulletin Supersedes Service Bulletin No. 66 Dated 22 January TO: Affected Airframe Manufacturers (Aero Commander, Beech, Bellanca, Cessna, Fletcher, Lockheed, Macchi, Navion, and wren), FAA Approved Propeller Repair Stations, and McCauley Distributors. SUBJECT: Cylinder Attachment Improvement PROPELLER MODELS AFFECTED : Any Two or Three-Bladed Constant Speed on- eat he ring ) Model Listed In Table I That Has Cylinder Attached To Hub With Only (8) Screws And Washers, As Shown On Figure I-A. - NOTE Any propeller that has cylinder attached with (8) or (14) screws and tubes and a ring as shown on Figure I-B and II-B or with (14) screws and washers as shown in Figure II-A is - not affected by this bulletin. AIRCRAFT MODELS AFFECTED: Any Single-Engine Tractor Aircraft With Affected Propeller Installed. Table I1 Is A Listing Of Aircraft Models Where These May Be Found. CONDITION AND CORRECTION: There have been several recent incidents where the screws in the cylinder attachment with (8) short screws have failed, which permitted the cylinder to come off and caused a loss of engine oil. This experience has dictated the need for an improvement of the strength of the attachment. The length of the screw has been increased to allow the part to yield over a much longer length so as to significantly reduce stress concentrations. Affected propellers in service that have cylinders attached as shown in Fig. I-A shall have attachment changed as shown in Figure I-B (8 long screws and tubes plus ring). This work can be accomplished by an A & P mechanic without removing propeller from aircraft. 1. Remove spinner shell in accordance with aircraft manufacturer's instructions. 2. Remove the (8) screws and washers that attach cylinder as shown in Figure I-A. It is not necessary to remove cylinder from hub. 3. Attach cylinder as shown in Figure I-B. Install screws with 30 to 36 pound-inches torque - use a torque wrench. Lockwire screws with.032 inch diameter corrosion resistant steel. NOTE Sufficient parts for one propeller, excepting lockwire, are available from McCauley in a kit, part number PL-4388 (contains (8) A screws and B-4354 tubes and a B Replace spinner shell. COMPLIANCE: Accomplish corrective action within the next 100 hours of service, preferably at next 100 hour aircraft inspection. An entry indicating bulletin compliance shall be made in aircraft and engine/~ropeller log books. (page 1 of 4)

6 S.B. No. 92 Page (2) of (4) DETERMINATION OF AFFECTED PROPELLERS: The propeller hub has a model designation number and serial number impression stamped on side of hub of two-blade models, and on the outer diameter of front (cylinder end) cylindrical boss of three-blade models (located between blade sockets). The hub model and serial number should also be listed in the engine/ propeller log book, but the hub model may be incomplete and not include change letter (example: ~ 2~34~58-~ may be listed as ~2~34~58). Table I indicates the specific propeller hub models that are affected and the hub serial numbers which may be affected, while Table I1 indicates the aircraft on which they may be found. If the aircraft records indicate that an affected type propeller model is installed and the serial number is in the affected range, the spinner shell should be removed to see if cylinder attachment is as shown in Figure I-A and, if so, corrective action accomplished. NOTE: This bulletin does not supersede the overhaul action requirements of Service Bulletin No. 87 dated 6 November 1970 or Revision 87-1 dated 21,April TABLE I HUB MODELS THAT ARE AFFECTED BY SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 92 ~2~36~32 ~2~34~58-B 3~32~76-s "HUB SERIAL NUMBERS THAT MAY BE AFFECTED BY SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 92 All ~~XXXX, ~~XXXX, ~~XXXX, ~~XXXX, ~~XXXX, and 70XXXX serial numbers up to and including except for the following serial numbers which are excluded: thru thru thru thru "NOTE: Hub serial numbers will be encountered with five or six digits. The first two digits indicate the year in which hub was produced, while remaining digits indicate the number of the hub fabricated in that year. Example - S/N indicates hub was produced in 1965 and was the 1323rd one made in 1965.

DAYTON, OHIO Area Code Cable Address: McCauley SERVICE BULLETIN NO DOA APPROVED December 1971 (NECESSARY AND REQUIRED ACTION (PRIOR TO OVERHAUL) - TO: Affected Airframe Manufacturers (Aero Commander, Beech, Bellanca, Cessna, Fletcher, Lockheed, Macchi, Navion, and Wren), FAA Approved Propeller Repair Stations, and McCauley Distributors. SUBJECT: Supplemental Information Applicable To Service Bulletin 92 dated April 21, CONDITION: FAA Airworthines,s Directive was amended by Amendment , effective October This has caused confusion concerning propeller serial number effectivity aid a cl arification has been requested. The original A. D. was issued on our Service Bulletin No. 66 dated 22 January 1968 which required the removal of (8) fillister head type screws and the installation of (8) socket head type cap screws. We now require that these socket head screws be replaced with long fillister head screws, spacers and ring as mentioned in the subject bulletin. Service Bulletin no. 66 has been replaced by the subject Bulletin No. 92. Since many propellers not effected by Service Bulletin No. 66 have since undergone overhaul, the serial number effectivity of Bulletin No. 92 must be changed to cover those not covered previously. CORRECTION: Add 59XXXX, 60XXXX, 61XXXX, 62XXXX, 63XXXX, 64XXXX and 65XXXX serial numbers to the hub serial numbers that may be effected by Service Bulletin No. 92. The serial number effectivity listing on Table I (page 2 of 4) of original Bulletin No. 92 must be changed to read as follows: All 59XXXX, 60XXXX, 61XXXX, 62XXXX, 63XXXX, 64XXXX, 65XXXX, 66XXXX, 67XXXX, 68XXXX, 69XXXX, 70XXXX serial numbers up to and including except for the following serial numbers which are excluded: , thru , thru , thru , thru and NOTE: The specific models listed on Table I were known to have originally contained an (8) screw cylinder attachment. If there is any question as to whether a propelller is affected, the spinner may be removed to expose the cylinder attachment and compare it with Figure I-A (page 4 of 4) of the original bulletin. Correct as required. A (14) screw attachment as shown in Figure I1 is not affected. OHIO Area Code Cable Address: McCauley SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 93 DOA APPROVED APRIL 21, 1971 NECESSARY AND REQUIRED ACTIOlV TO: Beech Aircraft Corporation, Cessna Aircraft Company, FAA Approved Propeller - Repair Stations, and McCauley Distributors. SUBJECT: Counterweight Attachment Improvement PROPELLER MODEL AFFECTED: Two-Blade Full Feathering Propellers Model 2 ~~36~39, ~2~~36~48, ~2~~34~52, 2~~34~55 and 2~~36~89 Which Incorporate Counterweight Assemblies That Have A-3372 Brackets Across The Counterweight Arms And Have Brackets And Weights Attached With (4) Socket Head Cap Screws. AIRCRAFT MODEL AFFECTED: Beech 95-55, -A55, and B55; And Cessna 310C Through 1. CONDITION: Several counterweight or attachment failures have been experienced which dictates a need for improvement. CORRECTION: The screws that attach brackets and weights to counterweight arm are to be replaced by bolts, which will pass completely through from one side of weights, brackets and arm to the other side. This change will effect the type and amount of weights installed. Table I-A attached is a listing of parts required for the improved attachment and indicates the quantity required for each propeller assembly. Figures No. 1-3 attached indicate how parts are installed with respect to each other. For reference, Table I-B attached is a listing of previous attachment parts which have now been superseded. COMPLIANCE: Accomplish corrective action whenever propeller is submitted for servicing of any kind (overhaul, repair, reconditioning, etc.), regardless of the number of hours of service. PROCEDURE: If propeller is being serviced for a condition that does not require re-balance, note the type, number and location of balance weights to permit reinstallation in same location. Remove counterweights and attaching parts (see Table I-A). 2. Use a drill press (do not use hand held drill) to accomplish the following: a. Open up the two #lo-32 threaded holes in each half of the D-1945 or D-3156 counterweights to inches diameter through. b. Open up the two inch diameter holes in the A or A-2331 weights to through, which will convert them to an A or A-3330 part number respectively. c. Open up the four inch diameter holes in the A-3372 brackets to through, which will convert them to an A-3372-A part number. 3. Deburr all drilled holes. Clean (strip) and cadmium plate the modified counterweights, weights and brackets. 4. Refer to Table I-A and note that A weights required for all models and A-3330

11 McCauley S.B. 93 Page 2 of 6 weights for 2~~34~55 and 2~~36~89 are obtained by reworking A and A However, new A-3330 weights must be obtained for ~ 2 ~ ~ 3 and 6 ~ ~ 4 28 ~ ~ 3 since 4 ~ 5 no 2 A-2331 weights were previously used. New A , -56 and -57 bolts must be obtained for all models. 5. Disassemble and reassemble propeller as required by Service Manual NO to accomplish overhaul or required servicing. Install counterweight onto ferrule as required by manual (para. 2-32i, Chap. I, Sect. 111, Pgs. 35 & 36). Assemble modified counterweight parts as follows (see Table I-A and Figs. No. 1, 2 and 3). a. Install 2 brackets (A-3372-~) on each pair of counterweight halves, so that they overlap at sides, one from top and one from below on opposite side, with bracket holes aligned with through-holes in counterweight arms. Full-width chamfered end of bracket MUST be at very end of arm, farthest from hub. Locate weights (A-3330 and A ) on each side of bracket and attach with bolts (A , 56 or 57), washers (A ) and nuts (A ). Center weights on side of arm and hold in place until tightening of bolts is sufficient to prevent movement. Tighten bolts with 75 to 85 pound-inches torque. CAUTION Attach brackets and weights with two A washers under the head of each A , 56 or 57 bolt, but if tolerance build up of parts does not permit end of bolt to protrude past the end of nut by at least 1/32 inch, remove a washer and repeat procedure until it does. b. Recheck torque of counterweight-to-ferrule attaching bolts (A and -2) after weights and brackets have been attached and their attachment bolts are torqued. If re-tightening is required, recheck torque of weight and bracket bolts. Repeat procedure until all bolts are properly torqued Should it be necessary to replace a D-1945 or D-3156 counterweight, obtain replacement as specified in Service Bulletin No. 83. NEW AND OBSOLETE PARTS: 1. A and A-3330 weights, A washers and A nuts have been used previously and should be a stock item. 2. A , -56, and -57 bolts are new items and should be promptly ordered. 3. A weights and A-3372 brackets are now obsolete and no longer available. Those in stock may be reworked into A weights or A-3372-A brackets, respectively. A-3372-A brackets are now available. 4. A-2331 weights are still required for other models and are available. 5. A and -61 screws are now obsolete and no longer available. - NOTE: The service manuals specify that all steel parts shall be inspected by magnetic particle process, Specification MIL ; all aluminum alloy parts by fluorescent penetrant method, Specification MIL It is necessary to reiterate this fact and note that the counterweights and attaching parts - must be magnetic particle inspected whenever propeller is overhauled. 12 McCauiey Industrial Corporation PARKER AVE AT HOWELL BOX 7. ROOSEVELT STA. DAYTON. OHIO Area Code Cable Address: McCauley SERVICE BULLETIN NO DOA APPROVED 30 JUNE 1971 NECESSARY AND REQUIRED ACTION (This Bulletin Replaces Service Bulletin No. 56 Dated 16 March 1964) TO: Beech Aircraft Corporation, Cessna Aircraft Company, FAA Approved Propeller Repair Stations, and McCauley Distributors. SUBJECT: Revision to Service Bulletin No. 93 dated 21 April CONDITION: 1. It was not previously indicated that Service Bulletin No. 56 dated 16 March 1964 was to be replaced. This bulletin covered 2AF34C55 model series. 2. Previously it was assumed that a1 1 2AF34C55 model propellers would have been serviced for Bulletin No. 56 compliance, which should be the case but may not be. Further, the Tab1 e 2-A 1 i sted only one previous (obsolete) configuration of D-3156 counterweights, weights and brackets, and attaching parts for the 2AF34C55 propel 1 ers. 3. Several stations have inquired about the necessity of magnetic particle process inspection for counterweights and A and -2 attaching bolts. This is required. Some failures were undoubtedly caused by the omission of such inspection in the past. 4. Information was not included earlier to indicate the previous bulletins that will require compliance at the same time as Service Bulletin No. 93. CORRECTION: 1. For reference, mark file copies of Bulletin 56 to indicate replacement by Bulletin 93. OHIO Area Code Cable Address: McCauley SERVICE BULLETIN NO DOA APPROVED 28 JULY 1971 NECESSARY AND REOUIRED ACTION TO: Beech Aircraft Corporation, Cessna Aircraft Company, FAA Approved Propeller - Repair Stations, and McCauley Distributors. SUBJECT: Supplimental Information Applicable to Service Bulletin No. 93 dated 21 April 1971, and Service Bulletin 93-1 dated 30 June CONDITION: An FAA Airworthiness Directive will be issued on the 2AF34C55 Propeller, which is covered in Service Bulletin No. 93. It will require the counterweight attachment improvement to be accomplished within a specified number of service hours. The general word description for the affected propeller models was sufficient for normal bulletin compliance, but a specific model and serial number affectivity, as shown in Tables I11 and IV of this revision, is preferred for compliance with the Airworthiness Directive. CORRECTION: (1) At the end of the paragraph and under the caption of Propeller Model Affected on Page 1 of Service Bulletin 93 dated April 21, 1971, use a pen and add the words "See Table I11 and IV on Service Bulletin 93-2 for specific 2AF34C55 Models and Serial Number Affectivity". (2) The tables indicating propeller model and serial number affectivity are as follows: TABLE I11 2AF34C55 MODEL~AFFECTED *NOTE: Not all 2AF34C55N Propeller Models are affected. Only new detail hubs shipped for spares and assembled in the field with old type counterweights are involved. Excepted serial numbers shown in Table IV are new propeller assemblies which contain D-4170 counterweights and are - NOT affected by this bulletin. SUBJECT: Supplelnental Information Applicable to Service Bulletin No. 93 dated 21 April 1971, 93-1 dated 30 June 1971 and 93-2 dated 28 July CONDITION: An FAA Airworthiness Directive No has been issued to cover the requirements of Service Bulletin No. 93 and its revisions. The No Revision dated 30 June 1971, under CORRECTION Paragraph No. 4, indicated that propellers which were received for compliance with the Service Bulletin No. 93 counterweight change only would a1 so have to be serviced for compliance with Service Bulletins No. 88, 84, 83, 80 and 62, which was not the intent. It is necessary to now define the disassembly procedure under which compliance with all these bulletins is required. CORRECTION: If a propeller is received for compliance with Service Bulletin -93 Airworthiness Directive No ) and during the subsequent servicing it is necessary for any reason whatsoever to disassemble the propeller to the extent of removing the blade assemblies from the hub, then it is necessary to also comply with Service Bulletins No. 88, 84, 83, 80 and 62, as applicable. If the servicing *requires only the removal of the counterweights to comply with Service Bulletin No. 93, then compliance with the other bulletins is not required at that time, but such compliance will be required later when the propeller is overhauled or is serviced for any reason where removal of blade assemblies from the hub is required. In the case where blade assemblies are not being removed and compliance with the other bulletins is not required, it is necessary to thoroughly examine visually, with a 10X power glass, all of the hub external surfaces, for signs of a crack or any unusual condition. NOTE: A number of people have asked if compliance with Service Bulletin No. 93 can be accomplished by an A & P Mechanic, and the answer is NO. The work must be accomplished by an FAA Approved Propeller Repair Station. McCAULEY INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION W'JPLi) 5 targe51 UAPIOtA<lJREP OF MtTAt PROPE,LERS FOR BUSlNES5 A N D PIEASURC AIRCRAFT
