5 The all-new S-Class was designed to be the most intelligent Mercedes-Benz ever, with technology to assist the driver in every aspect of the driving experience. A hard-drive-based navigation system with visual and audio directions is standard. To help you see better in the dark, the optional Night View Assist can display an infrared picture of the road ahead in the instrument cluster. And to give you a glorious view of the sun and stars, there s an available Panorama Roof. For added confidence and safety when backing up, an available Dynamic Rearview Monitor has a rearview camera that uses dynamic visual parking lines to help guide you into your chosen spot with ease. The all-new S-Class also sets a new standard for safety. Its list of active and passive safety systems has been expanded to include the next generation of PRE-SAFE as well as Brake Assist Plus. Your driving convenience is further enhanced with optional Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control a system that relieves driver stress by maintaining a preset distance from the car in front of you via automatic braking and accelerating. 1 1 Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control is no substitute for active driving involvement. It does not react to stationary objects, nor recognize or predict the curvature and lane layout of the road or the movement of vehicles ahead. It is the driver s responsibility at all times to be attentive to traffic and road conditions, and to provide the steering, braking and other driving inputs necessary to retain control of the vehicle. 6 The 2007 S 550 features an all-new, 5.5-liter, 382 horsepower V-8 engine that s larger and more powerful, while matching the efficiency of its predecessor. The use of four valves per cylinder and dual-overhead camshafts with continuously variable valve timing helps the engine to breathe more freely for smooth, immediate response. The engine is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, which adapts to your driving style. The transmission is controlled through the Direct Select shifter on the steering column. The driver may also select gears through shift buttons on the steering wheel. Standard Airmatic suspension ensures a smooth and composed ride on virtually any road surface. 7 One look at the rich wood trim and supple leather upholstery and you ll immediately appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating the S-Class cabin. Available Drive-Dynamic multicontour front seats with four levels of massage help you to arrive at your destination relaxed and refreshed. A standard harman/kardon LOGIC7, 600-watt surround-sound system features 14 speakers for incredible sound quality and depth. The audio system includes a standard 6-disc CD changer with DVD-audio and MP3-CD format capability. You can also download audio files to select memory cards and play them in your S-Class via the standard PCMCIA memory card slot. 1 SIRIUS Satellite Radio is also available as an option. 1 PCMCIA card adapter and memory cards sold separately.
