1 UNDERSTANDING THE ELECTRICAL WIRING IN YOUR NEW CARAVAN Caravan Electrical Solutions have provided this information pack for New Age customers to better understand the electrical components on their newly purchased caravan. We have included detailed information on the 12 Pin and Anderson Plugs that will assist in ensuring that your car will be compatible with your new caravan prior to pick-up and hand over. 2 12 Pin Plug configurations Caravan Electrical Solutions have wired the 12 Pin Plug on your caravan as per the table below. Please ensure that you take this diagram to an Auto Electrician when setting up your vehicle to tow your New Age caravan. Trailer Plug Pin No. 1. 3 Pin numbers 1. Left-hand indicator: Wired to the left-hand indicator of the tow vehicle. 2. Reverse signal (if applicable): Wired to reverse lights of the tow vehicle. 3. Earth return: Wired to earth of tow vehicle. 4. Right-hand indicator: Wired to the right-hand indicator of the tow vehicle. 5. Service brakes: Wired to service brake controller of the tow vehicle. 6. Stop lights: Wired to stop lights of the tow vehicle. 7. Clearance/marker lights: Wired to parker lights of the tow vehicle. 8. Fridge supply/breaksafe charging: Wired to battery positive (+) of the tow vehicle. It is recommended that this supply is taken off a dual battery isolating device that allows the power supply to the fridge to be fed only when the alternator of the car is charging if a manual fridge is being installed. Is an automatic fridge is being used, pin 12 will tell the fridge when to use 12v. Wiring this way ensures that the tow vehicle s battery will not be discharged/run flat when left connected, with the vehicle switched off. This cable should be 10mm² in cross-sectional area. Pin 8 runs the element on the fridge; this requires a 10mm² cable due to voltage drop. A 30amp circuit breaker is recommended. These figures will depend on how fridges are used (temperature/door operation). 2 These nominated fridges are 12volt compressor fridges. These fridges are not connected via the car and are connected to the caravan house battery. Breaksafe charging on Pin 8 is connected on the caravan side, no action is required as long as power is supplied to Pin 8

4 9. Breaksafe remote battery monitor: Wired to the Breaksafe battery remote monitor (not supplied, part number: RM6000) that is located within the vehicle. This is only required for NSW registration, this is not required in any other state unless specifically requested. 10. Earth return: Wired to earth of tow vehicle. 11. Spare: This is free for future additions unless used on your van by request. 12. Fridge 12v sensing wire: This is an ignition fed signal that activates the 12volt circuit in the fridge automatically. For an automatic/electronic absorption (3- way) fridge to operate on 12volt, this pin needs to have 12-volt power. This needs to be sourced from an ignition source so that it is live only when the engine is running.

5 Anderson Plugs Red Anderson Plug: Your caravan may also be fitted with a Red Anderson plug, this is used to power the ALKO electronic stability control. It should be wired directly to the towing vehicle s battery using a 6mm cable through a 30amp fuse or circuit breaker. Please note: Not all caravans are fitted with ALKO ESC, your caravan plan will determine if the Red Anderson plug is required. Low Voltage LV V Remote Brake Controller with sticker RBCR12R1 or R12R1 If your caravan is fitted with AL-KO Electronic Stability Control, it will be wired as per the above diagram. There is more information regarding the AL-KO ESC system on their website;

7 Grey Anderson Plug: Your caravan will be fitted with a Grey Anderson plug next to the 12 pin plug. This is used to charge the caravan battery from the car s alternator. This is also recommended to be supplied through a dual battery isolating device. 8mm² cable is to be used. Please note, some modern 4x4 have a Variable Voltage or Temperature Compensating alternator (smart alternators) which alter their output dependent on requirements of the load. If the tow vehicle is fitted with this technology it is recommended that a DC to DC charger be fitted. We do not recommend using a charger greater than 25amps. A fully compatible DC-DC charger, the Miniboost, is available, speak with your new Age Dealer for more information. If a third party DC to DC charger is to be fitted to the vehicle or already is, some minor alterations may be necessary to the caravan wiring, please contact Caravan Electrical Solutions for further information.
