1 SERVICE SUPPORT SATISFACTION Customer Support Newsletter Customer First Volume 1 Dec Issue 11 EC130 Maintenance Trainer Introduced The American Eurocopter Training Center recently conducted its first EC130 Field Maintenance training course, using a new, fully functional maintenance trainer aircraft. This new EC130 maintenance trainer gives instructors and students the opportunity to perform maintenance tasks which could previously only be accomplished in the classroom. Students are also able to learn the proper use of special tools required for these applications, which is an important aspect in maintaining aircraft. The American Eurocopter Training Center s EC130 maintenance trainer will greatly improve the training experience for our students, preparing them to provide improved support in the field, which translates to higher availability rates. With this latest accomplishment the American Eurocopter Training Center can deliver a training experience second to none, by providing practical applications that are critical for field maintenance. The new EC130 Maintenance Trainer. Operators will soon receive notifications of upcoming courses! Fenestron disassembly and inspection, gearbox seal replacement, tail rotor drive shaft bearing replacement, flight control rigging and engine removal are just a few of the exercises that are performed during the course. The EC130 maintenance trainer s electrical system and VEMD are both completely functional, allowing students to better understand trouble-shooting techniques of the aircraft s electrical system and engine failures codes. 1

2 AS350 B3 Dual Hydraulics Upgrade Now Available AS350 B3 operators are now able to expand the capability of their high-performance AStar with the introduction of a dual hydraulics upgrade for the type. This system, which is now installed as standard on all AS350 B3s delivered by American Eurocopter, allows existing operators to benefit from an increase in the AS350 B3 s maximum take-off weight from the current single-hydraulics limit of 4,960 lb to a new figure of 5,225 lb (in conjunction with the AStar s high skid gear), while also benefitting from the additional redundancy of the dual hydraulic system. The AS350 B3/2B1 dual hydraulics upgrade involves seven steps, including installation of a dual-channel FA- DEC Turbomeca Arriel 2B1 engine with back-up electrical Keeping It Clean: EC135 IBF Now Available EC135 operators are now able to benefit from the introduction of a high-efficiency inlet barrier filter (IBF) developed by Eurocopter to maximize aircraft performance while offering unmatched protection against engine erosion and foreign object damage (FOD) and related repair costs. control system (if not already installed); replacement of the original simplex hydraulic circuit with a dual system; reinforcement of the cabin floor and tail boom junction; modifications to the main gear box, main rotor mast and tail gear box; installation of new upper cowlings; modification of the engine firewall; and controls modifications. The AS350 B3/2B1 dual hydraulics upgrade is of special value to customers whose aircraft are fitted with a complex mission equipment package, such as law enforcement and air medical operators. The upgrade is also applicable to utility operators seeking to maximize the AS350 B3 s internal or external payload performance. American Eurocopter is currently undertaking the first AS350 B3/2B1 dual hydraulics upgrade at its Grand Prairie, TX facility for one of our largest fleet operators. The Eurocopter EC135 IBF system is permanently installed on the helicopter and is designed to remove foreign matters such as sand or dust or any other particles from the engine inlet air stream, thereby preventing premature erosion of compressor blades and other engine components. 4 Keeping It Clean: EC135 IBF Now Available (cont d) of the IBF s status, with bypass operation easily selectable (automatic during OEI operations). Failure and advisory indications are also provided on the EC135 s Caution Advisory Display (CAD) and IBF remote panel. The EC135 IBF s filters are mounted directly to the engine and are removable for cleaning, using an environmentally-friendly filter oil. The EC135 IBF is CAT A certified up to the aircraft s maximum take-off weight and does not affect the aircraft s all engines operating (AEO) performance. The system offers demonstrated filtration efficiency of 99.8%, and weighs only 57 lb installed. The Eurocopter IBF system is already certified and in service on the EC135 P2/P2+, with certification of the system on the EC135 T2/T2+ imminent. 5 EC135 Spacer Tube Inspection Interval Extension Following a series of meetings held by Eurocopter s Reliability Data Group in Donauwörth this October, we are pleased to inform EC135 operators of an extension to Spacer Tube inspection intervals, to be introduced in Rev. 13 of the EC135 AMM. The allowable wear limits in the current Rev. 11 of the EC135 AMM across the six key lengths of the EC135 Spacer Tube (referred to as the X dimension) is 5.4 mm. The top-to-bottom or Y dimension minimum stated in the current Rev. 11 of the EC135 AMM is mm. Rev. 13 of the EC135 AMM will reduce the minimum permissible X dimension on the Spacer Tube from 5.4 mm to 4.5 mm, as well as reducing the minimum permissible Y dimension on the Spacer Tube from mm to mm. Rev. 13 of the EC135 AMM will also introduce a graduated series of Inspection Intervals, permitting Spacer Tubes with lower allowable X dimension limits than the current 5.4 mm wear limit to be retained in service for specified intervals, dependent on the amount of wear. These changes are intended to enable customers to benefit from the full 4,000 hour TBO of the EC135 s Spacer Tube (a TBO limit which is extendable to 4,120 flight hours with the standard 3% allowance). For planning purposes, operators are also reminded that there is a 10% allowance beyond the stated 1,600 hour inspection, enabling Spacer Tubes with an X dimension of mm to be retained in service for a maximum of 1,760 flight hours. If an inspection of an EC135 Spacer Tube is performed at the 1,600 hour interval and found to be within new criteria, the Spacer Tube may remain in service with the next inspection due at the interval applicable to X dimension found at the 1,600 hour inspection. An Eurocopter Technical Agreement (ETA) () can be issued to keep the spacer tube in service if it is found to be beyond current published limits.
