5 1 Foreword The AS365 N3+ belongs to the famous DAUPHIN family. It is a medium twin engine helicopter of 4,300 kg Maximum Take-Off Weight based on the type certificate of AS365 N3. The AS365 N3+ is a powerful and fast helicopter that provides outstanding performance and long range capabilities. Its two Turbomeca ARRIEL 2C turbine engines fitted with Full Authority Digital Engine Control System (FADEC), makes it a helicopter particularly well adapted for operations in high altitude and hot countries. In order to ease the crew workload, the AS365 N3+ has been fitted with the unique Airbus Helicopters dual digital 4-axis Autopilot, APM 2010, also implemented on EC145 T2, EC155, EC175, EC225 & EC725. This state of the art AFCS is the 1st Autopilot ever designed specifically for helicopters. As a fly-through system, it offers no resistance to pilot initiated override maneuvres and maximizes safety and mission efficiency. For more practicality, the main instrument panel is equipped with a 10.4 inches mission display touch screen that relays the information brought by the various dedicated mission equipment such as the DMAP, EOS, Radar, TCAS, EGPWS, DF... Thanks to its versatile cabin, the AS365 N3+ can operate different missions like Offshore, VIP, Executive, Public Services, EMS, Surveillance and Full SAR (Day & Night) operations. Its useful volume can be fitted with various seating arrangements to accommodate up to 12 passengers plus 2 crew members. A wide range of optional equipment contributing to increase safety and mission efficiency, such as Flight Management System or SAR modes are proposed. 365 N E 3

6 The AS365 N3+ also incorporates the new generation, all composite FENESTRON tail rotor that provides high maneuvrability, exceptional efficiency at all speeds, and unparalleled ground & in flight crew safety, with a low sound level making it the quietest in its category. Over 1050 units of the DAUPHIN family have been delivered to date, cumulating more than 5,996,200 flight hours. The AS365 N3+ complies to the latest offshore regulations. In case of ditching, the helicopter is notably certified for water landing in the harshest conditions (up to sea state 6). Technical advancements developed by Airbus Helicopters on the AS365 N3+ include modular design of the mechanical assemblies, use of composite materials (STARFLEX rotor head, blades, airframe...) which has led to significant maintenance reduction. Airbus Helicopters is deeply aware that the majority of the cost of ownership is incurred over the operational life of the helicopter. Indeed, as much as 60 % of the life cycle costs occurs during the in-service phase. For this reason, reliability, maintainability and supportability are the cornerstones of the design of all Airbus Helicopters products. The basic AS365 N3+ vehicle design is based on the concept of Reliability Centered Maintenance and, as such, embodies a modern concept of dynamic assemblies and systems, use of composite materials, redundant systems and unlimited service life of main components. The AS365 N3+ possesses designed-in maintainability with numerous interchangeable parts that can be replaced quickly to ease maintenance and reduce down time. The main components (engines, main rotor head, main gearbox) have a modular design and are directly accessible, with minimum requirements to remove other components of the helicopter N E

14 2.11 Automatic Flight Control System Through the years, Airbus Helicopters has developed unique competencies in AFCS software design. With the APM2010 computer, it has developed the most advanced autopilot specifically designed for helicopters. Airbus Helicopters Automatic Flight Control System is a sophisticated digital 4-axis autopilot that offers no resistance to pilot initiated override manoeuvres and provides an utmost safety thus making flying a child s play. Taking into account the parameters supplied by the Air Data Computers, the AFCS determines the helicopter Flight envelope with VNE (Velocity Never to Exceed) and Vy (Optimum Rate-of-Climb) to prevent the helicopter from exceeding the flight envelope. This AFCS provides unique functionalities : Unrivalled mission effectiveness: Supports pilot task when all engines operative: 4-axis collective management optimized for cruise flight, using the Upper modes, such as: ALT, HDG, IAS, ALT.A, V/S, Go-Around, VOR, NAV, LOC, G/S, Cruise Height. Thanks to the "4-axis" mechanization, multiple combinations of these modes are available, No more speed limitation for Automatic ILS approach, No more up and down variations during speed reduction in automatic ILS procedures, No more trimming of cyclic for pilots below 30 kts thanks to effort detection and Automatic Trim follow-up, No altitude limitation for 4-axis use. Supports pilot task for SAR operation (SAR modes to be ordered separately): Fully automatic transitions to hover Unrivalled precision and stability of automatic hover leading to faster rescue and safer hoisting procedures Automatic hover possible over ships and over land Unrivalled safety, supports the pilot should one engine fail: Automatic management of 1 engine failure with priority to maintain altitude Automatic Emergency go-around procedure in case of engine failure during hoisting The AFCS is controlled through one Autopilot Mode Selector (APMS), installed on the central console in the sight area of both pilots, the cyclic and collective grips pushbuttons and the overhead panel controls. The Autopilot Module (APM) provides fully coupled Autopilot function in pitch, roll, yaw and collective axis, providing the basic stabilization and the upper modes functions in the same unit. The AFCS receives the information acquired and consolidated by the MFD's (data centralizer), such as, glide/localizer deviations, VOR bearing, selected course, roll steering command, radio height. It receives also engine information such as Free Turbine speed, torque, NG and T4. Note: A Stability Augmentation Sub-mode (SAS) function (Back-up mode) allows the pilot to take over; when the auto-trim function is disabled, the basic AFCS provides stabilit augmentation on pitch, roll and yaw axis using the series actuators N E

15 In SAR mission configuration, the AFCS is completed with the SAR modes option to better support pilots tasks during SAR operations. The unrivalled precision and stability of automatic hover it provides enable faster rescues and safer hoisting procedures. The SAR modes include : GSPD : Ground speed acquisition and hold HT/HOV : Autonomous transition down or hover height acquisition and hold F/TDN : Automatic transition down to hover (Trans-Down) TUP : Automatic transition from the hover to acquisition and hold of a predefined radar height and airspeed (Trans-Up) Note: Taking into account the parameters supplied by the Air Data Computers the AFCS determines the helicopter flight envelope with VNE (Velocity Never to Exceed) and Vy (Optimum Rate-of-Climb) to prevent the helicopter from exceeding the flight envelope (flight envelope protection). Moreover the AFCS provides the crew with an on-ground adjustable safety speed (Vtoss) through pitch beep in order to manage an engine failure from the hover (GA mode). 365 N E 13
