6 NEW PLANT The continuous development of INDAR as leader in its field led the company to consider the expansion and relocation of its plant to be one of its main priorities. So, INDAR built its new plant in less than 3 years, and equipped its R+D, sheet stamping, machining, winding, assembly, test center and dispatch sections with cutting-edge technology. The plant was inaugurated in October 2000 and consists of 3 independent production plants consisting of a total surface area of 175,000 m 2, with a built area of 40,000 m 2. In line with the INDAR commitment to its environment, the plant has been certified in accordance with the EN ISO Environmental Management System.

7 SHEET STAMPING This section is housed in a soundproofed building and is equipped with cutting lines, automatic numerical control punch presses and an enamelling line. Here the sheet is stamped with maximum precision, thus guaranteeing optimum quality during the useful life of the electrical machine. MACHINING CENTRES Equipped with the most advanced systems and equipment, such as vertical lathes, boring mills, axle lathes and grinding machines, CNC machining centres, especially designed for the manufacture of large machines.

8 COIL MANUFACTURE AND WINDINGS The winding section takes up almost a third of the plant and consists of two areas, one for Coil Manufacture and the other for the Insertion of Coils and for connections. The first area is isolated from the other working areas, with constant temperature and humidity control and modern means of production to guarantee maximum quality when preparing the coils. The second area is equipped with abundant resources that allow the machines to be manipulated carefully in the different winding stages. Test are carried out to ensure perfect quality throughout the process. IMPREGNATION This section consists of the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) tanks, from which we obtain insulation class H and class 200 machines, immersion tanks (static and dynamic) and curing ovens. The VPI impregnation process consists of two cycles. The first of these consists of creating a vacuum, removing the air and all humidity from the insulating material, then injecting resin under pressure into the windings. Finally, they are placed in the oven for the resin to polymerise, resulting in optimum insulation and solidity.

9 MACHINE ASSEMBLY 1,300 m 2 are devoted to machine assembly, with a crane capacity of up to 240 tons. There is also an area specifically prepared for the assembly of vertical machines. TEST CENTER At INDAR Electric Machines we test asynchronous, synchronous and d.c. machines in compliance with such International Standards as IEC, NEMA, etc. Data gathering is automated during these tests. If the client wishes, the machines can be certified in accordance with the requirements of official classifying societies such as Lloyds Register, Bureau Veritas, Norske Veritas, etc. The INDAR Hydraulic Machines hydraulics laboratory has 5 independent circuits.

10 TECHNICAL INDAR possesses a big engineering department staffed by highly skilled people and equipped with state-of-the-art systems for the design and development of its machines. The philosophy of only working with one's own technology ensures maximum flexibility and performance. Electric engineering uses modern electrical computing programs that result in designs of optimum capability and efficiency. These are checked by conducting finite element simulations of electromagnetic fluxes and tests on the bench in our instalations.

11 RESOURCES Constructional design is particularly robust so as to ensure the machine's long service life. In many applications, mechanical stresses require detailed research including the calculation of shafts, finite element simulations of the stresses supported by critical parts (frames, base-plates, covers, shafts, etc.). INDAR also uses advanced computer fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software that is a model of current practice in the calculation and design of pump impellers, diffusers and other components. 12 E L E C T R I C M A C H I N E S The Electric Machines Division offers a wide range of products designed to meet the most varied needs of our customers from the industrial and energy sectors. All the machines have been integrally developed with our own technology and by making the most of INDAR's rich experience in those fields in order to provide maximum sturdiness and quality. Likewise, a study is always carried out in collaboration with the customer to determine the application-specific characteristics such as the type of drive and its inertia, the number of starts or any dangerous environment, in addition to the energy supply which can range from the simpler direct starting system to the most complex one, like PWM, for operation at different speed rates. Alternating current motors These are either squirrel-cage or slip ring, low or high-voltage types of maximum ratings of 15,000 kw and 15 kv. There exist from two-pole models (3,600 rpm at 60 Hz) and up to 16-pole motors (375 rpm at 50 Hz) or even lower speed motors for special applications. Further customisation of the machine is feasible by selecting the desired construction form, level of protection (including completely submersible machines), cooling method, etc. from an array of existing possibilities. Also, exchangeability with in-service motors will be assured, where necessary. Direct current motors Designed for maximum reliability, with outputs as high as 4,000 kw, they have a scope of applications encompassing the drive of ship deck machinery through to very demanding equipment in the iron & steel industry. Since optimum results depend on a case-by-case personalised solution, INDAR reviews every project individually.

13 Synchronous motors For applications requiring a high torque at low speed, INDAR makes synchronous motors of up to 20,000 kw that feature the latest technology and find their major application in the iron & steel and shipbuilding industries. due to their working depth as well as those of the supporting mechanical structure necessary for trailing them on the sea bed. Generators They can be asynchronous or synchronous, of up to 40 MVA and 15 kv, of advanced design specially oriented to ensure functional efficiency and reliability. Submersible motors These motors, in which INDAR is a world leader, give outstanding evidence of their sturdiness and technological capability. With ratings of up to 10,000 kw and 15 kv, they can work at depths of up to 200 m in seawaters. Those motors will be able in their daily work to undergo the effect of sea water aggressiveness and to withstand the stresses Whether for hydro power, co-generation or the shipbuilding sector, every project is studied in detail and the generators adapted to each particular plant and customer.

14 IRON & STEEL INDUSTRY The iron & steel industry is moving in a highly competitive environment that periodically calls for big productive investments either in new facilities or in upgrading existing ones. Motors are essential to the equipment as a whole and, although they may weigh relatively little in the total investment, they have to be defined accurately and selected very carefully. In such a context, the characteristics offered by INDAR can make the difference: Long experience and supplies all over the world. Versatility to meet customer or plant-specific requirements, owing to high technological standards and to the organisation's great flexibility. Sturdiness, reliability and quality as required by the iron & steel industry for uninterrupted operation even in adverse environmental and working conditions. A synchronous motor of 4,500 kw, 50 rpm, 1,650 V and 120 tons, powered by a cycloconverter. This motor is located in the HOESCH plant, part of the Thyssen Group, in Germany.

15 To satisfy all the needs of this sector, we offer a complete range of specially designed products, including from direct-current motors to cycle-converter-fed synchronous motors or PWM-controlled alternating current motors. The design and manufacture of all those machines comply with diverse international standards in the iron & steel industry, like IEC, NEMA, AISE MILL, ASA, ANSI, VDE, JEMA and with any other norms peculiar to a given country or company upon the customer's request. 4 d.c. motors of 950 kw, 0-420/1,333 rpm and 725 V, installed in the AVESTA SHEFIELD plant in Sweden, driving Mitsubishi mechanical machines. 4 squirrel-cage motors of 1,500 kw, rpm and 690 V, powered by PWM. These motors are arranged one on top of the other, with a common cooler for both. These motors are installed in the ARCELOR profile plant, driving mechanical SMS machines and forming part of the double-reduction Skin-pass.

16 SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY For more than 50 years, the shipbuilding industry has been trying and testing the sturdiness of INDAR machines and, over that period of time, INDAR has won recognition and prestige for the reliability of its machines in the most adverse working conditions. Such long experience in the supply of equipment for all kinds of craft, e.g. fishing boats, offshore platforms, cargo liners, dredges, ferries, etc., proves the users' trust in our machines. The wide range of products available covers all the needs for electric drives existing aboard ship, namely main and transverse electric propulsion, principal and auxiliary power generation, deck machinery and so on. 2 synchronous motors of 2,500 kw, rpm and 830 V, powered by PWM, for electric diesel propulsion. As a special application intended to revolutionise the dredging market, submersible pump and cutter motors of up to 10,000 kw and 15 kv have been designed and produced thanks to the company's great R&D assets. INDAR is a world leader in this line of hi-tech equipment apt to work as deep as 200 m. below sea level. Two 2,200 kw, 345 rpm, 2,000 V, 32-ton submersible motors delivered in The dredge 167 m. in length belongs to PENTA-OCEAN CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. (Japan).

17 A 1,800 kw, 250 rpm, 660 V, 33.4-ton submersible motor filled with 3,300 litres of oil. 2 d.c. motors of 1,500 kw, 180 rpm and 750V for the low-noise electric diesel propulsion of the Irish Government oceanographic vessel Celtic Explorer.

18 INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS Since its creation, INDAR has been bound to the industry and, whilst enlarging its fields of activities later on driven by the customers' demands, it has always seen the industry as the core for the growth of the company. Business in this sector enabled us to amass a tremendous amount of experience and gain customers from all over the world. The most frequent applications in the industry include drives for pumps, fans and mills as well as traversing motors. Four sectors that, however, have their own peculiarities to be added to the characteristics of each installation. The design parameters of a motor drive are basically the same for a banbury mixer in the rubber industry or a pulper in the paper industry, or a coal mill in a thermal power plant, but it is this vast experience in all these sectors which permits the development of optimum equipment for each use. In-house developed technology makes it possible for us to transform an initially standard machine by adding different modules and accessories in order to make it fit for the required application or to build a totally customised or purpose-designed machine. Pump driving asynchronous squirrel-cage motors. This plant comprises 7 off 2,600 kw, 750 rpm, 6,000 V motors.

19 2 a.c. motors of 1,600 kw, 420 rpm and 6,000 V. These motors drive circulating pumps in the Bahía de Bizkaia combined cycle. 16 a.c. motors of 1,300 kw, 1,800 rpm and 4,160 V. The motors must withstand the stresses transmitted to them from the pumps (continuous downward of 120 kn and upward of 120 kn for 1 minute), and so have incorporated lubrication groups for cooling the bearings. These motors supply the city of San Salvador with drinking water.

20 HYDRO POWER INDAR has been extremely active in this field for several decades now, supplying both asynchronous and synchronous generators of up to 40,000 kva and 15,000 V to suit the needs of each customer. Design flexibility extends to all the peripherals that can practically be incorporated into these machines, like controllers, fireproofing systems, lubrication equipment, temperature probes, brakes, inertia flywheels, etc. Nowadays INDAR is the leader of the Spanish market with a strong foothold in other countries. This leading position is just the logical result both of our Synchronous generator of 4,688 kva, 300 rpm and 6 kv. Total axial force = 900 kn. VIANA III E-H Plant. Two KAPLAN turbine-driven synchronous generators. The generator is directly coupled to the turbine and supports all the hydraulic stresses transmitted by the turbine (total axial force = 1,000 kn). 3,140 kw, rpm, 6,000 V. Generator weight: 63 tons.

Installation and start-up or supervision of these processes in hydraulic plants anywhere in the world. CAPULLO E-H Station. A 53-ton, 14,800 kw, 750 rpm, 13,800 V FRANCIS-driven synchronous generator. Axial stress of 430 kn, radial stress of 4.2 tons (12 tons during speed). C.H. CAPARROSO, is located in the Navarre town of Caparroso. 2 synchronous generators of 2,280 kva, rpm, 6 kv and 42 tons, with 400 kn of axial force.

22 COGENERATION Co-generation plants demand the highest possible full-capacity utilisation rate from the installed equipment. INDAR has been giving satisfaction and assurance to the customers for many years, due to the high reliability and sturdiness standards applied to the design and manufacture of the generators. Besides, a close collaboration with the supplier of the engine (diesel, fuel, gas or oil) or turbine (gas or steam) permits the production of generators perfectly adapted to its equipment and to the plant. The flexibility of our organisation also allows us to supply these machines within a very short period, in a range of powers reaching 40,000 kva and of low and high voltages up to 15,000 V. Synchronous generator of 5,500 kw, 1,500 rpm and 6 kv driven by a TUTHILL steam turbine. This generator is housed in an olive marc treatment plant.

23 A 12,308 kw, 500 rpm, 6,000 V synchronous generator designed to be driven by a diesel engine. A 9,119 kw, 750 rpm, 13,200 V diesel engine driven synchronous generator.

24 WIND POWER GENERATION Wind energy production, as well as respecting the environment, has improved significantly in recent years in comparison with conventional electricity generation processes and is becoming recognised as the renewable energy with most future growth potential. Each generator model is developed and designed in cooperation with the turbine manufacturer so as to optimise the unit as a whole and take maximum advantage of the power of the wind. This intense growth, coupled with the special requirements of a sector that needs very robust, flexible machines has led us to create an independent business unit that manages its own R+D, production and after-sales service resources.
