2 A Powerful Efficient Compact Lightweight solution to smoke plume management in the OR. Presenting the ConMed Aer Defense Smoke Evacuator: At the heart of the Aer Defense is a powerful high suction, high flow, thru vacuum motor. Aer Defense runs this motor at low speeds to draw the surgical smoke plume through the advanced 3 stage filter effectively, safely and with minimal noise.

3 On-Off power switch The power button that disables the electrical power to the Aer Defense unit is located on the front panel. To power up the smoke evacuator, depress the power button down until the indicators on the control panel illuminate. To power off, depress the power button again until the lights on the control panel turn off. This power button will not control power to any attached ESU.

4 Suction level control The amount of suction may be adjusted by pressing the up or down arrows on the control panel. Press the up arrow to increase suction Press the down arrow to decrease the suction Adjustments are made in 10% increments and are displayed via the 10 Green lights below The suction control should be set to the lowest setting that completely removes surgical smoke plume from the operative site.

5 Filter life indicator The filter life indicator on the control panel provides a visual indication of filter use. Each LED segment represents 12.5% of filter life. Filter life is based on the amount of air flow through the filter.

6 Filter life expired The filter life indicator illuminates the last bar as orange when less than 12.5% capacity remains. When the filter has expired the orange LED will flash and the Aer Defense will sound a 5 beep warning alarm The unit will continue to function until it is switched off. The filter will need to be replaced prior to using the unit again.

7 Laparoscopic mode Selecting the laparoscopic mode provides low range suction control, ideally suited for minimally invasive procedures. Laparoscopic mode activation can be controlled by the default, or other specialty activation modes on the control panel.

8 Default ESU Activation mode No specialty mode selected The Aer Defense will run in default activation mode when no specialty modes are selected and illuminated on the control panel While in default mode the Aer Defense Smoke Evacuator automatically senses ESU activation and will instantly initiate suction upon activation of the attached ESU.

9 Continuous activation This specialty mode button on the control panel will run the Aer Defense unit at the selected power level continuously until the mode is deselected, another mode is selected, or the unit is powered off. Continuous Activation can run in the Normal or Laparoscopic Modes.

10 Footswitch activation Selecting this mode on the control panel will initiate suction upon activation of the footswitch only. Depress the pneumatic footswitch once to turn on suction. Depress the footswitch a second time to turn off suction.

11 ConMed mode This specialty mode will initiate suction activation from a ConMed System 5000, or System 2450 ESU. The Aer Defense will also employ automatic adjustments of the flow level based on the ESU* power usage.

12 FilterOne Single disposable filter Completely enclosed 3 Filter stages The ConMed FilterOne is a disposable, multiple patient use device All elements are enclosed to protect the health care professional from contamination during filter changes. The ConMed FilterOne processes surgical smoke plume through a series of filtering stages. Stage 1: Pre-Filter for gross particulate. Stage 2: Virgin Grade Activated Carbon filters gases and odors. Stage 3: Certified ULPA grade filter traps particulates and microorganisms.

13 Integrated system approach The Aer Defense is designed to be fully integrated into the System mobile pedestal. Optional accessories required for this are the saddlebag basket and remote vacuum control.
