3 Ellen The new Lounge work space by Gispen The new way of working is based on the idea that employees operate as independent entrepreneurs, who decide for themselves what they can do best, and when. People should be able to find their own way round a building, using their own intuition. There is an appropriate speed for every activity in an organisation. Wherever a variety of activities are taking place, Ellen provides shelter in a busy open environment. Sander Architecten has translated the new way of working (Rabo Unplugged) into an all-encompassing interior design for the new Rabobank Nederland head offices in Utrecht. Ellen Sander had a supervisory role, bringing the input of the client, advisers and the Kraaijvanger-Urbis firm of architects together, and allocating individual tasks to designers like Richard Hutten, NEXT Architects, Ineke Hans, Emma architecten, and Pentagram. Together with Gispen, she developed CubiC and Lounge, the new workplace furniture for Rabobank Nederland.

4 The New Way of Working Gispen Lounge has been developed specially for The New Way of Working environments. Sophisticated materials and shapes ensure the most comfortable seating imaginable. The modules are mobile and have their own electricity connection fittings. This means that Gispen Lounge offers an attractive and flexible alternative to costly and fixed lounge configurations. The dimensions of the work surface, in combination with the floor, ensure optimal leg room in every position. It is also possible to add to the design with separate mobile chairs. The acoustic back wall of perforated steel affords extra privacy.

5 Working alone and together Gispen Lounge is ideal for situations in which people need to concentrate deeply on their work, but is just as suitable for people working in teams or for meetings. With the help of the slidable table top and the electrical height adjuster, the workspace can be modified to suit the needs of users at the flick of a wrist. Employees will need no persuading to sit at the inviting and spacious table, with its extra thick top.

9 Ellen Practical > The sitting section has been developed in cooperation with ergonomic specialists. The choice of a low comfortable back with good lumber support was a deliberate one, in order to obtain a light and less massive look. > The complete work space is mobile and equipped with its own floor in which cabling and other connection points can be concealed. > The built-in CableCubby in the table surface has an integrated operating panel for adjusting the height, and gives direct access to power and data.
