4 SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES. Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live"wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the operator.. Always keep your hands out of the path of the drill. Avoid awkward hand positions where a sudden slip could cause your hand to move into the path of the drill bit.. Do not drill material too small to be securely held. 4. Secure workpiece. Use clamps or a vice to hold the workpiece. It is safer than using your hand and it frees both hands to operate the tool. 5. Make sure there are no nails or foreign objects in the path of the workpiece to be drilled. 6. To avaoid injury from accidental starting, always remove the battery from the tool before installing or removing a drill bit. 7. Do not install or use any drill bit that exceeds 7" (75mm) in length or extends more than 6" (50mm) beyond the chuck jaws. They can bend or break suddenly. 8. Before starting the operation, jog the drill switch to make sure the drill bit does not wobble or vibrate. 9. Do not use fly cutters or multi-part hole cutters, as they can come apart or become unbalanced in use. 0. Make sure the spindle has come to a complete stop before touching the chuck or attempting to change the drill bit.. Always make sure the chuck is tight and the drill bit firmly tightened in the chuck before starting the drill. MAINTENANCE Cleaning WARNING: RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY. Always disconnect tool from power source before making any adjustment, installing or changing accessories.. Clean the tool housing and motor vents after each use.. Keep the grip dry, clean and free from oil and grease.. Store the tool on a safe and dry place, out of reach of children. 4. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents that could attach the plastic parts of the tool. 5. Turn the tool off immediately and do not operate, until repaired, if tool begins to make abnormal noise, vibrations, produces smoke or burning odor. Chuck Removal The drill chuck must be removed in order to use some accessories.. Remove the battery pack from the drill.. Open chuck jaws as far as possible.. (SEE FIGURE 0) Remove the retaining screw () in the bottom of the chuck using a # Phillips screwdriver. Turn screw clockwise to remove it. This screw has a lefthanded thread. Figure 0 Retaining Screw Chuck Jaws 4. (SEE FIGURE ) Insert a hex key () into chuck () and tighten chuck jaws securely. Make sure the chuck jaws are seated on flat surface of the hex key. 5. Tap the hex key sharply with a mallet () in a counter-clockwise direction. This will loosen the chuck on the spindle. Unscrew and remove chuck from the spindle by hand. 6. Reverse steps - 5 to install new chuck. (Maintenance continued on next vpage.) Figure
5 OPERATION (continued) Driving & Removing Screws When driving screws - use suitable bits for the size and type of screw being used. Drill a pilot hole in most application to avoid splitting material. Use lower speeds for better control and to avoid stripping the screw head.. (SEE FIGURE 9) Install the appropriate Figure 9 screwdriver bit or accessory for the job. Make sure the flats of the bit are gripped by the chuck jaws and the bit is firmly locked into the drill chuck.. Set the forward / reverse switch () for the desired rotational direction.. Rotate the clutch adjustment ring () to the appropriate setting based on the Torque Adjustment Chart shown on Page 7. If material is particularly soft or porous, set the clutch at a lower setting to avoid over driving the screw. Always start on the lowest setting. If the correct setting has been chosen, the screw will be turned flush into the material at the same time the clutch begins releasing (clicking noise created as the motor rotation continues but the chuck slows or stops in response to torque). If the screw is driven too far into the workpiece before the clutch releases, set the clutch to a lower setting and do not pull the trigger switch fully back. If the screw is not driven far enough into the workpiece, set the clutch at a higher setting. NOTE: Do not continue to drive the screw once the clutch has released. This will damage the clutch. When removing screws, select a higher setting or set to drill symbol. The proper settings are best determined in practical trials. 4. Pull the On-Off trigger switch () to start the drill. Rotational speed will increase as the trigger is pulled. CAUTION: Drilling with lowest rotation speed for an extended period, increases the danger of overheating the drill's motor. Allow cooling time of approximately 5 minutes between extended drilling periods. 5. Release the On-Off trigger switch when the operation is complete. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR BATTERY AND CHARGER Before using the charger and battery pack, read the Instruction Manual carefully. WARNING: CHEMICAL HAZARD. Do not open battery pack casing. Protect the battery pack from impacts. If electrolyte leakage occurs from the battery, it is essential to avoid contact with skin. If electrolyte does come into contact with your skin, rinse off with water immediately. In the event of electrolyte contact with your eyes, consult a physician immediately.. Verify the available current corresponds to current required by battery charger.. Verify correct polarity (+/-) before inserting the battery pack into the charger.. Do not use battery charger outdoors. Never let moisture, rain, or splashed water reach the charging location. 4. Do not charge battery pack with the temperature is below 0 o C (50 o F) or above 40 o C (05 o F). Charging battery at extreme temperatures can cause shorter battery life. 5. Damaged battery packs or batteries no longer accepting a charge must be disposed of as hazardous waste. Do not throw the battery pack into the trash, into fire, or into water. See battery Recycling section for disposal information. 6. Do not operate charger with a damaged electrical cable or housing. Charger with damaged electrical cable is non-serviceable and must be replaced with a new one. 7. Use only battery packs and chargers approved by manufacturer for use in tools. Approved battery packs and chargers are listed in the Accessories section of this manual. 8. Always keep the charger free from dust and dirt. 9. Always remove battery pack before working on the tool. 0. Cover the battery pack contacts to avoid short-circuiting.. Avoid the risk of explosion! Do not throw Ni-Cd batteries into water or fire.. NO SMOKING in battery charging or storage areas. Damaged Ni-Cd or Ni-Mh batteres may vent the explosive gas hydrogen that can ignite on exposure to any namked flame or spark.. Store unused battery away from heat sources. 4

Use one hand to grasp the handle and switch and the other to grasp the body of the drill. NOTE: Make sure the hand placed on the body of the drill does not cover the air vents. Covering these air vents will reduce the motor cooling and possibly lead to overheating the motor. 5. While holding the drill firmly, place the point of the drill bit at the point to be drilled. 6. Pull the On-Off trigger switch () to start the drill. Rotational speed will increase as the trigger is pulled. Note: Always use a higher drill speed when drilling small holes. Use a slower drill speed when drilling large holes. CAUTION: Drilling with lowest rotation speed for an extended period, increases the danger of overheating the drill's motor. Allow cooling time of approximately 5 minutes between extended drilling periods. 7. Move the drill bit into the workpiece applying only enough pressure to keep the bit cutting. Do not force the drill bit or apply sideways pressure to elongate the hole. 8. Release the On-Off trigger switch when the operation is complete. Drilling in Different Materials: Wood - Hold the drill firmly and place the point of the bit in the center of the desired hole location. Depress the trigger to start drilling. Metal - Use a punch to mark hole position. Place the point of the bit in the center of punch mark. Depress the trigger to start drilling. Use cutting oil in most metals to improve drilling action and prolong bit life. See cutting oil and/or drill bit manufacturer recommendation for use. Plastic - Use high-speed steel drill bits and refer to wood drilling. NOTE: A jammed bit can often be freed by placing the drill in reverse and slowly backing out of the workpiece.
