4 Safety Instructions The Lithium Power Supply (LPS) is classified as Class 9 hazardous material UN3480, a power source with high energy density and dangerous materials in a closed metal case! Installation must strictly follow the national safety regulations in compliance with the enclosure, installation, creepage, clearance, casualty, markings, and segregation requirements of the end-use application. Installation must be performed by professional installers only. Switch off the system and check for hazardous voltages before altering any connection! The Lithium Power Supply must be handled only by qualified and trained personnel. The lowest protection degree of specific parts of the LPS is IP21. Ensure that the installation of the Lithium Power Supply is in accordance with IP21 requirements. This is a Class I product. Only connect 230VAC in from a source that is connected to electrical earth, including any extension cords between the source and the unit. Especially keep these rules: Do not open the Lithium Power Supply. Do not discharge a new Lithium Power Supply before it has been fully charged first. Charge only within the specified limits. Do not mount the Lithium Power Supply upside down or on the sides. Check if the Lithium Power Supply has not been damaged during transport. Do not put Lithium Power Supplies in serial or parallel. Dangers involved in case of fire: Danger of dust particle explosions Decomposition through fire or heat under development of toxic and cauterizing gases Combustion gases which strongly irritate eyes and respiratory organs General actions to be taken by the driver if these dangers occur: Turn of the engine Put a warning signal on the road to warn others Inform others about the danger and direct them to stand away from the wind direction Call the police and fire department immediately and inform that lithium batteries (UN3480) is on board Instruction for fire extinguishing: Extinguish with water, if possible cover lithium power supply completely in water Extinguishing with water will produce fluoride, phosphate, fluoride-oxide and carbon-oxide. Alternatively extinguish with a CO2 extinguisher. Note: If the LPS is stored, the battery must be fully charged and must be recharged again every 6 months. 7 1. LPS description With the LEAB Lithium Power Supply (LPS), you have acquired a high quality power supply product, which you can use for fixed installation in vehicles as well as for mobile use. The smartphone principle for mobile power. The smartphone revolutionized mobile communications - the LPS revolutionized the mobile power. All relevant components required for the power supply in a vehicle are integrated in one device. So the LPS integrates a lot features that are commonly performed as stand-alone devices. The LPS supplies with the integrated high-power lithium-ion battery at the same time 230 VAC and 12 VDC loads. The powerful DC-DC booster charges the LPS automatically when the vehicle engine is running. While plugged 230 V mains connection, the LPS is recharged via the on-board charger in a short time. The connected 230 V loads are then supplied automatically by the mains. Solar or alternative energy sources can also contribute, with additional controllers, for energy supply. Weak and discharged starter battery can usefully supported by the integrated jumpstart-function. The LPS is a device of protection class I. Protection and personal protection, also including connected low-voltage consumers, is ensured by an integrated personal protection RCBO 10 A / 30 ma and two circuit breakers for each of the two 230 V sockets. A safety socket on the front side and a connector Neutrik PowerCon at the rear are available for this. The 230VAC sockets are supplied during the inverter operation and grid operation. The network configuration is performed as a TN-S system. 12 V input and output are protected by fuses on the rear side. 12 V loads can be connected with Anderson SB50 connector on the rear panel. 9 3. Unpacking The LPS is supplied in a stable, tested transport cardboard packaging. Check before unpacking the carton for external damage. The LPS has handles at the two narrow sides (front and back). Lift the LPS at these evenly out of the carton. We recommend to store the carton for later use (storage, transport, complaints). Scope of delivery Please check before use if the following delivery is included in the box: If the delivery does not meet these specifications, the LPS or connection cables are damaged, please contact your dealer or directly LEAB. 10 4. Assembly & Electrical connection The LPS can be used depending on the application with and without mounting and solid electrical connection. At the bottom there are four holes M5, which can be used for mounting. Danger Electrical installations only allowed by experts! Before any work switch the LPS off! Shut off all 230 sources and secure against restarting! Do not open the LPS! Attention Assemble the LPS always with the top side up The LPS has a forced ventilation. Make sure that the air can freely circulate around the housing. Provide adequate ventilation. Before work, all components and devices have to be de-energized. If the LPS is not installed permanently, you can proceed directly to the Quick Start in chapter 4. Place of Installation The following environment conditions must be met: Dry, well ventilated and dust-reduced place of installation. Short distance to the batteries in order to obtain short cable lengths. Do not install the LPS directly next to or above the conventional lead-acid battery. Protect device against excessive dust and wetness protection. Do not install the LPS directly next to or above flammable materials. Warning If the place of Installation is a car, take care of sufficient mounting. Attention Do not connect the wires in reverse polarity! LPS can be destroyed! Do not exchange Input and output connectors, thereby the LPS will be destroyed! page

12 Electrical connection Usage of 230VAC If you connect the LPS with an external 230VAC source (external supply, shore power), the LPS will automatically start charging. At the same time also the 230 VAC outputs of LPS are activated and the loads are powered (mains priority circuit). Figure 2 The 230Vac outputs of LPS are secured by a RCCB (residual current circuit breaker) and two circuit breakers. All given 230VAC consumers must be connected to the AC outputs of the LPS. (Fig. 2) Danger Only consumers who are connected to the outputs of the LPS are monitored by the integrated safety installations of the LPS! Figure 3 If additional consumers between mains and LPS are connected, an additional RCD must be installed immediately after the handover point. (Fig. 3) For the connection of fixed devices to the LPS, it is preferably to use the Neutrik connector output (gray) at the back of LPS. page

14 Connection 12V DC-Input For charging the LPS via the alternator, connect the LPS in accordance to fig.3. Place the fuse as close as possible to the starter battery or alternator. To signal the LPS that it should respond to charge, apply a control signal +12 V (terminal 61, terminal 15 alternatively) to Input 1 (pin 9 of the D-sub connector). Figure 5 * Fuse100A note Fuses and connection cable sets are available by LEAB Connection 12VDC Output Connect 12 VDC consumers at the DC output of the LPS (red Anderson SB50 connector). Here no additional security is generally required because the outputs of the LPS are internally fused. If you reduce the cable cross-section (<16 mm²), corresponding fuses are to use. Figure 6 page

15 Remote control of the LPS (Wake-Up-Adapter) The LPS has a remote input, which allows you to switch it on and off by remote switch or switching signal. This is useful, for example, when the LPS isn t easily accessible or should be only be used with additional devices. For this, a separate wake-up adapter (see page 30) is necessary, which is mounted in place of the supplied DB9 connector. To activate by remote a DC voltage between V must be connected. closer fuse Figure 7 note Switch: contact switch 12 V / 100 ma Fuse: cut-out fuse approx. 1 3 A Remote display If the LPS is installed in a way that the integrated display is no longer accessible, you can connect an additional display to see the essential system information and to activate and deactivate the LPS by remote display. Connection is via the D-sub connector on the back of LPS. Please consider the notes in the manual of the LPS Display. Figure 8 If both, the DC and the AC Output, will be used, the DC Output has to be activated at the LPS directly once only. Just the inverter is going to be turned on and of by using the Display, the DC Output stays active because it has a minimal internal consumption. Seite

16 Usage of jump start function The LPS has an integrated jump start function, to start the vehicle even when starter battery is discharged. The electronic power distributor relay CDR ensures the controlled and current-limited load balancing between the LPS and the empty starter battery. The jump start function can be used only when the voltage of the LPS is higher than the voltage of the starter battery. Figure 9 * Fuse 100A The required CDR is available as an accessory by LEAB (see Chapter 6). The blue and black wire of the CDR will be connected via the DB9 connector (pin 6) with the LPS. 17 Connection solar panel or alternative power source (e.g. fuel cell) The LPS is prepared to use alternative sources of energy for charging. One or more solar panels can be connected to the LPS by an photovoltaic charge controller (not included) to the DC-output of the LPS It may be used only solar charge controller LEAB suitable for charging the battery LPS. Operation Mains connection 230 VAC: If mains is applied to the AC input, the LPS will start automatically. 230VAC loads are automatically supplied by mains. 12 VDC: If the DC voltage is connected to the DC-Input (mentioned in Chapter 1) and a remote signal is connected to DB9 connector pin 9, the LPS will start charging. Battery operation 230 VAC: Without mains connected the 230VAC Output is powered by the internal inverter. 12 VDC: 12VDC loads will be powered by the internal Lithium Battery. 7. In- and Outputs 230VAC Output Chose this menu by pressing the OK-Button 230VAC Output. Menu items Operation Status Power Voltage OK. Energy Saver (Threshold) Setting a power threshold. The DC Output turned of if the used power is lower than the value set. It is possible to chose a value between 0W and 20W. Use the arrow keys to set a value. page

Use the arrow keys to set a value. 12VDC Output Chose the menu by using the arrow keys and select it with OK. This menu shows the current operating data of the 12VDC output. Menu items Operation Status Power Voltage Current Jumpstart Shutdown Delay Jumpstart Use this function to assist an empty starter battery while starting. Press first the arrow key and then OK to activate it. Now there will be a charging current of 50A for 5 minutes. It is possible to start the vehicle as usual afterwards. Note: A CDR is required additionally for this function (see page 15) Shutdown Delay Set whether and how long the DC Output should stay active after the LPS is turned of. A time between 1 minute and 10 hours is possible. Use the arrow keys to set a time. Press the arrow key till the display shows inactive and press OK to deactivate it. Seite

25 Error Codes Chose the menu by using the arrow keys and select it with OK. This menu shows possible errors. Please consider the explanations on page 26. About Chose the menu by using the arrow keys and select it with OK. This menu shows general information about the unit version. Menu item Serial Number Manufactured Hardware Version Software Version Unit Software Version - Display 9. Turn of the LPS Press the Power-Button to turn of the LPS. The following menu appears: To turn of the LPS chose either Shutdown and press OK or deactivate both outputs (remove the tick). 10. Discharged battery The lithium battery is protected against deep discharging by disconnecting the outputs and set the LPS to sleep mode. After re-applying a charging source (AC or DC input), the LPS activated independently. If you press the on / off button and the battery is empty, an exclamation mark is shown on the display. The exclamation mark flashes on the display three times before the LPS off again. The DC and AC outputs are disabled and can t be used as long as the battery is recharged. To enable the LPS in the ready state, the LPS must be charged to a state of charge of at least 10% first. Note: If the LPS is totally empty it might be necessary to remove all signals and put them on again. Remove all plugs and insert them again therefore. Seite

29 12. Maintenance & Service Regular inspections Regularly check before each use LPS as follows: Power cord and plug undamaged? Charging cable and connectors are not damaged? Charging cable securely attached to the charger? LPS physically damaged and not open? LPS isn t in contact with water, oil or other fluids? Trip test FI Take care of national regulations regarding safety for electrical equipment and electrical personal protection. Especially take care of regular inspections, defined by law or standard in reference to your application, that have to be repeated periodically Danger Check before each use LPS and cord for damage! Don t use a damaged appliance or an appliance with damaged cord, this has to be repaired immediately! Check functionality and safety of the LPS in reference to standards and laws before use, when it was in contact with liquids! Necessary repairs only allowed by LEAB or a by LEAB certified company. 30 Replace fuse (DC) On the back of LPS in total there are six ATO 40 A fuses protecting 12VDC input and output. The top three fuses are for the output, the lower three for the input. Should one or more fuses need to be replaced, you have to replace them by the same value. Should it continue to cause damage to the fuse, it shall be obligatory to check the installation Figure 12 Disassembly For disassembly proceed as follow: Switch the LPS off De-energize all Input wires by separating fuses. Disconnect Schuko-, Neutrik and Anderson and DB9-connector of the LPS If necessary, LPS unscrew or detach from the mounting Remove LPS from the vehicle, (use the handles) 13. Transport and storage Attention For transport and storage, the LPS must always be switched off. If the LPS is stored, it has to be fully charged. Recharge the LPS latest every six months We recommend using the original packaging for storage and transport. Storage Store the LPS in a cool, but frost-free, and dry environment LPS never store when discharged. Lowest state of charge state to store, 75% For longer storage, check the charge status regularly and recharge them at least every 6 months. Transport The Lithium Power Supply is classified by category 9 UN3480 as hazardous. The LPS is tested according to this UN The transport of the lithium power supply must be in the original, certified packaging. page

31 The transport of the lithium power supply must comply with the "Investment for Announcement of the amendment of Dangerous Goods by Road" (ADR) occur. For other means of transport (rail, ship, air) as well as for the transport of defective batteries, please contact your dealer. 14.
