Continental ebike System 4 1 Basic information This chapter contains basic information on this operating manual and the Continental ebike System. 1.1 Reading and storing this operating manual This operating manual accompanies the Continental ebike System (abbreviated: CeBS). The operating manual contains important information on using and changing the settings of the Continental ebike System. This operating manual is based on the standards and regulations in force in the European Union. Read the entire operating manual carefully especially the safety warnings (see Chapter Safety warnings on page 10) before using the Continental ebike System. If the warnings in the operating manual are not observed, it can lead to severe injury or damage to the CeBS. Store the operating manual in an easily accessible location for future use. If you pass on the Continental ebike System to a third party, you must also pass on the operating manual. 1.2 Intended use The Continental ebike System is specifically intended for your ebike model. You must also observe the additional operating manual and safety warnings from the manufacturer of your ebike. The Continental ebike System is intended to be used with an ebike being used by one person. The ebike may only be used in the ways the ebike s manufacturer intended. The manufacturer does not assume liability for damage arising from improper use. Only use the CeBS as described in this operating manual. Any other use is considered improper and can lead to accidents, severe injuries and damage to the CeBS. Avoid misuse (see Chapter Safety warnings on page 10) and check to make sure that the Continental ebike System is fully functional before each use. If you notice any defects, these must be repaired by a bicycle retailer immediately. If components of the CeBS must be replaced, only original replacement parts may be used this is for your own safety and in order for your ebike to retain its value. Inspections at regular intervals may reveal material fatigue. Note the inspection intervals which you can have documented in the service history. The handover certificate and service history can be found at the end of this operating manual (see Chapters Handover certificate on page 57 and Service history on page 58).

5 1.3 Warning notices The following signal symbols and signal words are used in this operating manual to warn about the risk of personal injury or material damages. The warning notices themselves cannot prevent danger. Comply with all warning notices to avoid any risks while using the CeBS. Wwarnin The signal word indicates a hazard with a moderate level of risk one that can result in death or severe injury if not avoided. cautio The signal word indicates a hazard with a low level of risk one that can result in a minor or moderate injury if not avoided. wuutentio The signal word indicates the possibility of material damage. 1.4 Symbols The following symbols are used in this operating manual, on components of the Continental ebike System or on the packaging. Restriction of certain hazardous substances in accordance with 2011/65/EU. Symbol for alternating current (AC).

7 1.5 Mode of operation of the Continental ebike System The Continental ebike System provides support while you ride the ebike. The motor adjusts itself to the rider s level of exertion. The more powerfully you pedal, the stronger the support from the motor. This correlation is true regardless of the support level. At a speed of 25 km/h, the motor support turns off. As soon as the speed falls under 25 km/h, the Continental ebike System will begin to support you again as you pedal. The selected support level (see Chapter Using the operating panel on page 27) has an effect on the speed, range and wear exerted on the CeBS. The most efficient way of riding is a pedal frequency of approximately 80 revolutions per minute. The motor is most effective when the revolution speed is approximately this value. 1.6 Range The range you can achieve with your Continental ebike System primarily depends on the following factors: Rider exertion Battery s age and state of repair Support level Type and characteristics of the route Gear-shifting behavior Headwind Type of tires Surrounding temperature Amount of air in the tires Total weight (ebike + rider + luggage) These factors lead to a very broad spectrum of ranges which can be achieved with the Continental ebike System. Depending on the model, ranges of 180 km are possible. This value represent an upper limit and can only be achieved under optimum conditions. During everyday use of your ebike, the aforementioned factors from rider exertion to total weight of the ebike can reduce the range.

Continental ebike System Transport In this chapter you will find information on transporting the Continental ebike System as part of your ebike and on transporting the battery. When transporting your ebike and the battery, you must also observe the additional operating manual and safety warnings from the manufacturer of your ebike Transporting the ebike cautio During transport, the battery can be damaged by blows or impacts. Risk of short circuits and fire! Before transporting the ebike, remove the battery from the battery bracket. Be particularly careful when transporting the battery. Remove the battery from the battery bracket. Transport the battery separately. If you are transporting your ebike by car: Secure your ebike to the car with an appropriate mounted bicycle carrier. If you do not have the necessary expertise or tools to mount a bicycle carrier, let a bicycle retailer mount the bicycle carrier. If you are transporting your ebike by bus, airplane, ship or train: Inform the respective transport company of the conditions under which the battery must be transported.

Shipping the battery Shipment of the battery is subject to the legal regulations on hazardous goods. When shipping the battery, please note: Never ship the battery yourself. Only ship the battery if the casing is free of damage. The shipper is liable for damages arising from transporting defective batteries. If you have any questions about transporting batteries, contact your bicycle retailer they will be able to arrange suitable transport.
