2 Thermo Scientific TITAN 4000 Total Nitrogen/Sulfur/Chlorine Analyzer The Thermo Scientific TITAN 4000 Total Nitrogen / Sulfur / Chlorine (NSX) Analyzer is perfectly crafted for today s demanding laboratories. Powerful advances in technology deliver brilliant results, with unprecedented sample throughput and lowest cost of ownership. TN/TS analysis within 2 minutes! Traditional analyzers achieve analysis times of six minutes, requiring extra carrier gas facilities and frequent user interface handling. In contrast, by eliminating the need for frequent system checks, the innovative TITAN 4000 is capable of analyzing TN/TS samples within an unsurpassed two minutes. Even with the most difficult sample matrices, thanks to the new unique plug-flow combustion technology combined with our sample injection device, NSX detection is trouble free resulting in significantly reduced analysis times. Up to 60% reduction in bench space compared to alternatives The new modular design means that you only receive the analytical modules you require so, depending on the configuration, you can fit your NSX analyzer into the tightest of spaces. Choose between a dedicated system, a double system or a fully combined NSX analyzer (see configuration guide on page 10). The unique integration of our proven Thermo Scientific AI 3000 liquid autosampler mounted vertically to the instrument also aids in saving valuable lab space. Consumable savings of at least 10% per annum The optional use of oxygen-only gas with the robust chromium plated copper injection system saves significant operation costs and makes the system a real innovation in trace level element analysis. It also fully meets stringent ASTM compliances. Further savings are made with less glassware replacement and repairs, and new gas flow regulation for minimum wastage. 4 Thermo Scientific TITAN 4000 Total Nitrogen/Sulfur/Chlorine Analyzer Sample Introduction Liquid samples are loaded in 2 ml vials of the integrated AI 3000 sampler device, which is easily accessible and connected to the chromium plated copper injection device of the TITAN The sample is automatically injected into a 70 C injection port and is, under an oxygen-only gas flow, introduced into the combustion tube. This approach avoids problems with needle blockages which are inherent when using the traditional syringe injection systems, and allows the analysis of samples with high boiling points (non-volatile) extending the application range of your laboratory. Oxidative Combustion This device contains a low-voltage furnace (which can reach a maximum temperature of 1200 C) fitted with an innovative quartz combustion tube (patent pending), making it possible to inject samples at high velocity to boost element excitation and reach analysis times of less than two minutes. The quartz inner tube can be exchanged easily and thus increases the lifetime of the combustion tube itself. Furthermore, the actual furnace temperature is monitored and adjusted every 0.5 seconds to ensure temperature fluctuations of less then 2 C, providing excellent performance stability. The combustion gases are passing a newly designed two-stage Perma Pure dryer which is kept at elevated temperatures to increase efficiency. It is partly integrated in the filter assembly, which is easy to access and thus completely eliminates maintenance issues. Module Connections The TITAN 4000 does not include traditional part-to-part connections and is free of any glass-glass connections eliminating common problems with malfunction, breakage and attrition. The use of an enhanced quick gas connector design includes sensor technology to ensure a robust operation.

5 Gas Conditioning This module features a syringe pump assembly and weighing device which automatically replenishes the required amount of solvent allowing 24/7 unattended operation. The presence of new technology-based pressure regulators and capillary restrictors guarantees an optimum control of gas flow and analysis conditions, minimizing gas wastage and associated expenses. Detector Modules The TITAN 4000 can be configured for the analysis of individual parameters, Total Nitrogen, Total Sulfur and Total Chlorine or a simultaneous TN/TS analysis, to meet your exact needs. Additional modules are easily added should requirements change in the future. See page 10 for configuration options. The compact design, LAN facility, simple modularity and data logging concept makes it very easy to trace, identify and solve any specific issues with the detector module. 6 Thermo Scientific NSX VISUAL Software The Thermo Scientific NSX VISUAL Software package features full automation of work lists, system check-and-control keys, and a large number of functionalities which make the operation of the TITAN 4000 a routine task. NSX VISUAL can be installed on Windows XP or Vista based systems and has several user levels which ensures high security and GLP proven operation. NSX VISUAL Software also guarantees trouble free operation by including auto RSD, auto QC samples, default analyzer settings, four priority sample sets, system monitoring functionalities, pressure control of supplied gases, 360 system monitoring, out of boundary user warning and an auto shut down procedure. Unique to the TITAN 4000 is the ability to control the operation of the system from a remote location.

The use of this technology significantly improves refinery efficiency, blending capabilities and analysis in applications where Cetane Improvers are used.
