4 Druck in Aerospace Measuring up to Pressure Transducer electrical interface is typically a hermetic connector, electron beam welded to the transducer body. High performance... Zero maintenance Druck silicon transducer technology provides highly accurate and reliable pressure measurement proven by over 25 years experience within the aerospace industry. All welded and encapsulated packaging can be customised for a fully compliant form and fit. The piezo-resistive silicon assembly is mounted within a glass-tometal seal and completed with a flexible metallic isolation diaphragm to provide a high integrity pressure module. This module is fitted with appropriate conditioning electronics and built into a rugged and hermetically sealed mechanical package. To ensure high reliability throughout its operational life, all transducers manufactured by Druck are subjected to an Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) and, where required, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) prior to delivery. The completed transducer will withstand a severe aerospace environment and is supported by FAA/CAA certification, including TSO C47. 6 Druck in Aerospace Fixed Wing Airframe Transducers The introduction of fly-by-wire technology and closed loop control of hydraulic systems has dramatically increased the use of airframe mounted pressure transducers. The environment is demanding and varied. Transducer selection is critical. Pressure transducers may need to measure liquid level in a waste water tank, hydraulic system pressure for control surfaces, landing gear and brakes or monitor emergency oxygen supply for crew and passengers. Temperature range and accuracy requirements vary, vibration levels can be arduous, EMC and lightning protection is essential in exposed locations. Druck transducer technology offers high level millivolt outputs using only passive resistive components, resulting in a good signal-to-noise ratio and excellent immunity within high EMC/EMI environments. Passive output transducers allow wide temperature operation, high reliability with good shock and vibration resistance. Amplified transducers provide a variety of output signals including voltage, current, frequency and digital. Internal supply regulation allows operation direct from the aircraft bus. The use of advanced hybrid electronics and ASIC technology give performance and reliability to that of equivalent passive devices. 8 Druck in Aerospace Engine Mount Transducers Measurement of critical engine performance parameters is vital in modern military and commercial engines, requiring cost effective, reliable and accurate pressure transducers. Applications require transducer outputs to interface to engine and fuel controls, cockpit instruments and direct mounting for oil pressure and filter condition monitoring. Engine Transient Transient pressure monitoring to prevent engine stall. Dynamic response essential. Engine controls offer environmental protection enabling the selection of unamplified transducers. Small size with low weight is supported by price/performance ratios that offer a cost effective solution for engine parameter measurement. Amplified transducers with bracketed mechanical formats permit direct engine mounting to achieve dynamic measurement response. Improved integrated electronic packaging and the advancement of EMC/EMI protection circuitry provide good environmental performance in exposed locations where higher temperatures and increased vibration levels exist. 10 Druck in Aerospace Rotary Wing Airframe Transducers The dynamic characteristics of rotary wing aircraft demand superior pressure transducer performance. Whilst similarity exists between fixed and rotary wing applications, differences in the environmental conditions need to be considered. Transducers may be required for measurement of compressor discharge pressure, either from within the engine control LRU, or by direct mounting. Oil pressure is measured for calculation of torque, engine filter condition and tail rotor transmission. Unamplified transducers offer high temperature performance to enable engine parameter measurement either directly or within the controls architecture. Fully protected amplified transducers give good immunity within EMC/EMI and lightning environments. Small size and lightweight packaging, coupled with an integrity of construction, allows direct engine mounting and dynamic measurement response to meet the most arduous of environments. 12 Druck in Aerospace Ground & Flight Test Transducers Ground and flight test applications present the broadest range of measurement requirements to a pressure transducer manufacturer. From the early 1970 s, silicon piezoresistive technology, coupled with a modular design approach, has enabled Druck to offer a range of products to meet all test engineering requirements. Wide temperature operation, small package size, high performance and digital output transducers are examples of the flexibility demonstrated. Druck pressure transducers meet the demands of engine testing and airframe mounted measurements through to surface profiling either in the wind tunnel or in flight. 13 Air Data Measurements cd Today s sophisticated range of cockpit instrumentation and Air Data Computers (ADC s) require pressure input signals of either analogue or digital form to measure parameters such as altitude, ROC, airspeed and Mach. With the introduction of RVSM (Reduced Vertical Separation Minima) altitude needs to be measured even more accurately. Druck has developed digital output state-of-the-art resonant silicon technology, which offers outstanding levels of accuracy and stability needed to fulfil such critical air data applications. Microprocessor and hybrid based electronics provide high performance and reliability, with a package size to permit direct instrument integration. Civil airlines and military authorities throughout the world have adopted the ADTS 405F flightline variant as standard equipment, including the US Army, US Navy and US Marine Corps. The ADTS 405 series is an advanced pitot-static pressure control system which offers both simplicity of operation coupled with full programmability for testing aircraft pneumatic instrumentation.
