1 NOTE: Numerous editorial changes were made throughout the manual to correct and update various Commands, codes, references and acronyms. These are correct on the date of promulgation. This synopsis lists the major non-editorial changes to Revision C, Change 6 of the manual in order of appearance. These are listed by Volume/Chapter/ number. Areas where a change bar does appear in the outside margin of the manual, but no obvious change occurs in the paragraph indicates deleted text. Change Description VOLUME I I-1-2 I-2A 6-1 Modified the request for copies of the manual to ensure to the JFMM web page is used by ashore activities and commands to the maximum extent possible. Modified the sample message to conform to current process. Added Work Complete Key Event Clarified the submarine sea trial sonar and sonar communications requirement to include transmit capability called for by AXP-1. Added a new Note 12 concerning resistance measurement checks. Updated the sample message to reflect the update administrative flow to permit the use of Fly-By-Wire. Updated the ships Commanding Officer s Diesel Engine casualty reporting requirements. Added a requirement to add an entry to the diesel maintenance history log including date, engine hours and a brief narrative that provides the reason for and description of maintenance. Added water jacket logs to the list of items to be provided to a Diesel engine inspector. IV-13-3 IV-18-1 IV-23-5 Added a statement to ensure weight tests of submarine weight handling equipment will be recorded on a QA form 17W. Updated the entire chapter on Submarine Salvage. Updated the Repair Before Operating requirements of marine gas turbine engines. VOLUME V V-I-1-14 V-I-2-6 Added a new sub-paragraph requiring ship s QAI s to brief maintenance personnel and appropriate supervisors on applicable requirements before starting work. Added VIRGINIA Class Payload System to Maintenance Certification Record/Controlled Work Package (Non-SUBSAFE) exception item. 2 of 5

Clarified that when completing a re-work addendum, the requirements for the QA-9 are not included in the re-work addendum instructions. Added a statement to reflect SSBN/SSGN class potable water shore service connection cap installation performed as a controlled assembly is exempt from reporting under the paragraph on the Certification Continuity Report. Modified the SFCC boundary work control procedures to conform to the FBW-SCS Requirements Manual. Clarified that miscellaneous testing on reactor plant and nuclear support facility test equipment will be documented on a QA form 17. Clarified that test, measuring and diagnostic equipment documentation for operating pressure tests on reactor plant and nuclear support facility test equipment is not required if normally installed system gages are used. V-I-7B-4 V-I-8-6 V-I Updated Note 7B to define retest requirements for installation of the systems permanent blanks following removal of temporary shore ASW on SSN 21 and SSN 688 Class submarines. Clarified Minor Departure from Specifications for material deficiencies discovered during a maintenance action that will not be corrected prior to ship s underway. Added a note to the QA form 9 instructions for block 16 that, for submarines only, the QA-10 is a continuation sheet for the QA-9 and is not required to be listed in block 16. Added a note to the QA form 9 instructions for block 21that, for submarines only, the signature of the submarines Commanding Officer is REQUIRED to complete certification of Re-Entry into SUBSAFE, Scope of Certification and Fly-by-Wire systems and components. V-I Added a note to the QA form 9 instructions for block 16 that, for submarines only, the QA-10 is a continuation sheet for the QA-9 and is not required to be listed in block of 5

V-I QA form 34A: Added a new Note to the instructions for block 8: V-I-13B-2 (3) FOR FLEET ONLY: For non-controlled assemblies when no specific attribute is specified, inspector signature certifies acceptance of level I material only. Nuclear level I, inspector signature certifies witnessing gasket compression and flange parallelism (gap measurement is only required if mating surfaces do not contact). Added a new page of Notes for the Wire Removal/Replacement form. V-III-2-1 Clarified when a CWP is required when manufacturing MCD A, B or C SOC material.
