3 BMW X5/X6 M. PRESS FEEDBACK INTERNATIONAL PRESS EVENT AUSTIN/TX 01-02/2015. Generally the BMW X6 M seams fitter, well-trained and more athletic than his predecessor. If required the monster goes really crosswise! Unbelievable: The X6 M drives as fleet-footed as a BMW 5 Series! 2015 BMW X5 M: Big Price, Big Cojones The brakes, which now feature cross-drilled rotors, six-piston front calipers, and 50-percent greater surface area, prove highly effective at repeatedly hauling down this big machine without fading. It's got colossal grunt low down in the rev range, spins to 7000 and never really shows lag. Both HP swanks create what nobody would have held for possible. They cut a good figure on the racetrack as good as in the terrain or the city Already with the braking in the first hairpin on the "Circuit of the Americas" in Austin he seems to have thrown down 500 kilogram's of ballast. It remains a comfortably flexible crossover, but it s also an all-out track demon that belies its look. Page 4

Here, high performance means all of a vehicle s components work in perfect harmony and the precise interplay of various details resulting in maximum performance, agility, precision and balance out on the road and on the race track. This sense of driving feel is a defining feature of all the cars produced by BMW M GmbH and is, needless to say, also present and correct in the new BMW X5 M and new BMW X6 M.

The BMW M3 represented BMW s first real parallel development between motorsports and series production units of the production car had to be produced due to the homologation as a touring car. From the start these production cars were ready-to-race and tailor-made to the regulations of the group A touring cars. A perfect condition for success in motorsports. BMW X5 PROTOTYPE (E53S): LE MANS V12 LMR, BMW Press Club Youtube Abenteuer Auto The idea of the prototype had a technical origin: The BMW M engineers wanted to find out where the technical and physical limits of an X5 really are and how it feels like. As result a respectable showpiece came to existence. The prototype is powered by the legendary V12 engine from the 1999 Le Mans winner V12 LMR. The appearance is mainly affected by the impressive large air outlet in the bonnet and other specific exterior parts. Page 15

BMW X5 PROTOTYPE (E53): M5 ENGINE, REAR WHEEL DRIVE, In 2000 the BMW M GmbH constructed a second prototype of an X5 (E53) including the engine and power train of an M5 (E39). The prototype was built to find out how dynamic an X5 could be using the established up-to-date M technology including rear wheel drive. The experiment should point out if an M typical driving experience is possible in an X5 and in particular how a rear wheel driven X5 would differ from an X5 with xdrive. Later models profited from the results of this special prototype. The rear wheel drive concept was not decided due to the better versatility of xdrive as important feature in the SAV segment. But the idea was born to develop a rear wheel focused xdrive setup to preserve advantages concerning driving dynamics. Page 18

They are the first all-wheel-drive models to offer the supreme performance, dynamic driving features, athletic design, and premium quality of a typical BMW M car. The exclusive character of both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M results to a large extent from a level of driving performance never seen before even in this particular segment. 23 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. INTRODUCTION - BMW M DESIGN. BMW M automobiles take motorsports on the public roads. They combine the characteristics of high performance and emotional design. The design of these cars is athletic, powerful and muscular. The BMW X5 / X6 M carries on with the typical M design language that has evolved over the years and characterizes a BMW M automobiles at first sight. It distinguishes its value through authenticity: Each design element of a BMW M automobile is based on its technical requirement as a high performance model. Page 27

25 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. INTRODUCTION - EXTERIOR. The exterior design stands for pure power and agile dynamism, and therefore for the ultimate in driving pleasure. The steeply sloping front design highlights the dominant appearance of the BMW which, in conjunction with M specific design elements, displays its impressive athletic ability. Page 29

26 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. FRONT. Striking double round adaptive LED headlights in combination with LED fog lights emphasize the vehicle's wide track. These features, in conjunction with the classic M double-bridge kidney grille, dominate the front of the vehicle. The M kidney grille with black high-gloss double slats and M logo emphasizes the forward projecting design of the car's front end. The powerfully designed front apron is dominated by three large air inlets. M specific, aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors with a double-bridged base design, along with M gills bearing the model designation, underscore the model's enormous dynamic potential. * * compared to predecessor Page 30

28 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. SIDE-VIEW The distinctive M gills underscore the car's sporty appearance and optimize aerodynamics using the integrated Air Breather. The aerodynamically optimized M exterior mirrors with double-bridged design and additional integrated LED indicators accentuate the sporty character of the car. Page 32

29 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. SIDE-VIEW - LIGHT ALLOY WHEELS. M vehicles' regular non-runflat tyres are characterized by their flexible sidewalls, which permit better responsiveness to steering. They also offer better protection against vertical jolts, which is particularly noticeable in everyday driving. Furthermore, this type of tyre features a lower weight, which has a positive effect on fuel consumption. 20" M light alloy wheels Double-spoke 611 M, gloss-lathed, with mixed tyres, bi-color orbit grey. 30 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. REAR END. The two bevelled 90mm M double tailpipes made of high-gloss Chrome fit harmoniously into the flowing lines of the rear apron. X5 M split tailgate: two-part, with top-hinged upper section that can be opened separately, bottom section of tailgate with manual release, folding down (to level of loading sill). The rear spoiler painted in body colour on the BMW X6 M reduces rear-axle lift. Page 34

31 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. INTRODUCTION - INTERIOR. In the interior design, BMW M aims the consequent goal of maximum control and safety in combination with a custom-built ambience for the driver. DSC: on, MDM (xdrive sport setup, late engine performance reductions, late braking interventions), DSC off (braking interventions only in driving situations with extremely high changes of lateral acceleration). Damper: comfort, sport, sport plus; adaption of damper and Dynamic Drive characteristic curves. M Drive Two drive characteristics available: Setup for DSC mode, engine response, damper characteristics, steering characteristics, transmission characteristics and gear changing speed as well as the look of the (optional) Head-Up Display are adjustable via the M Drive buttons on the steering wheel. Adjust setups You can adjust and save settings in the M Drive menu or by a long keystroke on one of the two M Drive buttons. Basic settings at the start The BMW X5 / X6 M default setup at the start is efficient and comfortable. 37 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. DRIVER S WORKPLACE: LAUNCH CONTROL. Launch Control: Launch Control is available with an engine oil at operating temperature, so after an uninterrupted drive of at least 10 km. Procedure: 1. Deactivate DSC or activate MDM 2. Select sequential mode, 1 st gear and Drivelogic program With the engine running, depress the brake strongly with the left foot. 4. Press the accelerator pedal until a flag symbol is shown in the instrument cluster. 5. Keep the accelerator pedal in this position. The engine speed when driving off is regulated. 6. Release the brake within 3 seconds. The vehicle accelerates. Upshifts are done automatically as long as the flag symbol is displayed and the accelerator pedal is not released. Launch control can be started again after a certain cool down period. Page 41

M Sport seats including seat heating, lumbar support, thighrest (mechanical) and seat adjustment, electric, with memory for driver (seat height, seat fore-and-aft position, seat tilt and backrest tilt). Contains automatic parking function for passenger-side exterior mirror and exterior mirrors heated. Seat heating rear available as option. M multifunctional seats (option) offers additional shoulder and side support whereas additional electrical adjustment options (backrest width, height of lumbar support, head section of backrest, thighrest) and memory function for front passenger. 39 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. DRIVER S WORKPLACE: APPS. M Laptimer App a tool for data analysis on the race track incl. automatic calculation of laptimes. Connect the iphone with the car and control the App via idrive controller. The app evaluates and analyses your driving style through measured data such as steering angle, throttle and resulting g-forces. The analysis uses direct sensor data taken from the car system. Available in combination with 609 navigation system Professional, 6NR, BMW Apps and an iphone which is connected to the car via USB. Page 43

40 MODULE 2 - DESIGN. DRIVER S WORKPLACE: APPS. The compact GoPro action camera is becoming increasingly popular among athletes and outdoor people. In the near future, it will also be used more frequently by BMW M drivers. The GoPro App is installed on the iphone, which needs to be connected to the vehicle (option BMW ConnectedDrive services needed). The connection to the camera is done via WiFi, so that it can be positioned anywhere in the car. Recording start and end as well as the battery level and signal strength are displayed in the idrive screen. Looking at the record, however, is only possible in the stationary car. Available in combination with 609 navigation system Professional, 7S9, BMW ConnectedDrive services package and an iphone which is connected to the car via USB. Page 44
