2 HIGHLIGHTED ITEMS = RULE CHANGES FOR 2009 CHASSIS SPECS: 1. Weight rule is 1475 pounds, including the driver, at the conclusion of the race. Any bolt-on weight must be painted w hite and the car number must be on the w eight. Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition w ill disqualify the individual form the event. Bolt-on w eight can only be added in the areas designated in the accompanying diagram. The w eight must be securely attached and must remain in place during a race. It must not be moved or removed during a red flag situation. We reserve the right to disqualify any individual w hose weight mounting procedure does not meet our specifications. (See illustration) NO BALLAST AREA Any Ballast not encapsulated must be painted white and be identified by car number. All ballast must be approved by Tech officials. WINGS: 2. Top Wing (see Illustration) a) Center Foil maximum size of 25 square feet w ith a maximum w idth of 60 inches. b) Center Foil shall be fully sheathed in aluminum. Vent holes are strictly prohibited. c) No w icker bills or Gurney lips per mitted on Center Foil, unless center foil is totally flat then a one-inch w ickerbill is allow ed. d) Other than the slider mechanis m, no moving parts allow ed on or in foil structure. e) The 12-inch section located at the rear of the Center Foil must not have the belly/curl arc out of proportion w ith the rest of the Center Foil. The belly/curl arc must span the entire length of the Center foil and appear to be a gradual arc w ith the deepest point no further back than 48 inches from the leading edge. As measured on a 12-inch straight edge, the belly at 6 inches from the rear of the Foil may not be deeper than ½ inch. There is zero tolerance on this ½ inch depth. It is suggested that the w ing blue print specify 15/32-inch depth, so that if any deflection or movement of the w ing occurs, the depth w ill not exceed the ½ inch specification. (This ½ inch measurement ensures that the belly/curl arc is gradual.) f) The belly/curl arc must start at the radius of the Center foil s leading edge and shall not exceed a depth of 2 ½ inches. Center Foil thickness cannot exceed 9 inches. Center foil top surface from side to side must remain flat. Center Foil must be one piece construction. No split or bi-w ings will be per mitted. Wings must be fabricated of metal alloys only. No fiberglass, carbon fiber or other similar material may be used in the basic framew ork of the wings. 3 2.1 Front Wing*: (see illustration) a) Center foil maximum size of 6 square feet with a maximum w idth of 36 inches. b) Center Foil shall be fully sheathed in aluminum. No vent holes allow ed. c) No w icker bills or Gurney lips per mitted on Centr foil. d) Maximum distance from t he Center Foil front edge to the front edge of the front axle may not exceed 20 inches. e) The Center Foil front edge must remain at least 1 inch behind the front edge of the front bumper. Center Foil top surface from side to side must remain flat. f) Center Foil must be one piece. No split or bi-w ings allow ed. g) Wings must be fabricated of metal alloys only. No fiberglass, carbon fiber or other similar mater ial may be used in the basic framew ork of the w ings. h) The Front w ing must not extend beyond outside of front tires. The Front Wig may not be cockpit or driver adjustable w hile the car is stationary or in motion. i) No moving parts allow ed on or in the foil structure. j) The 5 inch section located at the rear of the front foil must not have a bell/curl arc that is out of proportion w ith the rest of the front foil. As measured on a 5 inch straight edge, the belly at 2 ½ inches form the rear of the foil may not be deeper than 3/8 inch. There is zero tolerance on this 3/8 inch depth. It is suggested that the w ing blueprint specify 11/32 inch depth, so that if any deflection or movement of the w ing occurs, the depth w ill not exceed the 3/8 inch specification (This 3/8 inch measurement ensures that the belly/curl arc is gradual). k) The belly/curl arc must span the entire length of the front foil and appear to be a gradual arc with the deepest point, no further back than 12 inches from the leading edge. The belly/curl arc must start at the front foil s leading edge and shall not exceed a depth of 2 inches. Top foil thickness cannot exceed 3.6inches. l) No rudder or fins on Front Wings. 4 2.2 Side Board Panels*: a) Side panels may not be supported by braces w hose section is not horizontal. Al braces or supports shall be oriented thin edge to face the air stream. Only rectangular, round or oveal metal braces not exceeding 1 inch in w idth may be used. b) No aero section side panel brace material allow ed. c) No brace or support shall resemble a w icker bill or a split w ing. d) Top Wing Sideboards maximum size, 72 inches long and 30 inches tall. Panels must be of one-piece construction. Panels must be fabricated flat so as to have no turnouts or flaps made of more than 2 inches of material on the front or rear of panel and no more than 1 ¼ inches on the top or bottom. e) Front Wing side boards maximum size, 12 inches tall and 26 inches long w ith no more than one inch overhang from the center foil front edge to the side board front edge. Sideboards may have front, back, top and bottom turnouts of no more than ½ inch. 3. Any sprint chassis is allow ed, but must pass any test prescribed by the safety inspectors. The roll cage must be of a four-post design. No dirt champ cars. No elliptical (oval shaped) tubing used on or as part of the main frame structure. Minimum w heel-base of 83 inches, maximum w heel-base of 90 inches. 4. Fuel cell securely mounted w ith bladder mandatory. Tank used for qualifying heats must remain for all events. 5. No flammable liquids allow ed in cooling systems. No fuel additives. 6. Bumpers and nerf bars are mandatory and must be securely mounted. No aluminum frames, rear bumpers or nerf bars. Aluminum front bumpers are allow ed. Nerf bars must not be outside of tires. 7. All drive lines must be broken in the coupler or rear slider, fully enclosed and contain no more than one U-joint or C-V joint. No torque ar m drive lines allow ed. A safety strap is strongly recommended. 8. Mufflers: Mandatory, (unless otherw ise stated). Schoenfeld part # Loss of muffler will result in disqualification w hen mufflers are required. 9. Headers: Must be minimum of Steel, aluminum or titanium brake rotors only. 11. No tw o way radios will be allow ed. 12. The maximum distance from the leading edge of the front bumper to the leading edge of the front torsion tube is a maximum of 8 inches. The maximum distance from the leading edge of the front bumper to the leading edge of the front axle is 23 ½ inches. 13. No hollow, tubular or drilled out bolts allow ed. 14. The right side opening must be an minimum of 10 inches vertical at any point and 21 inches horizontal. Last Updated October 27,

5 TIRES AND WHEELS: 1. Right Rear Hoosier Racing Tire, stamped Medium or Hard 105 X 16. No tire preps or tire softeners allow ed. 2. Beadlocks recommended on all w heels. 3. No device to vary running cam timing. 7. Steel hub or SFI approved damper. Stock location w ater pump. 8. Stock (.842) dia. flat tappets. NO roller, hydraulic, mushroom or radius tappets. 9. No hard face overlay cams. Original cam configuration & firing order ( ) 10. Spring specs: Only straight w ound springs w/flat damper. Max dia.1.265, min. dia , Installed ht. minimum 1.650, max I.H Absolute seat lift 355#, max. w ire dia..195, Max. free ht , min. free ht Spring must have min. of 5 full coils. 11. Wet sump, internal pump only, no crankcase vacuum systems. 12. Roller rockers allow ed. 3/8 or 7/16 stud mount rockers only. NO shaft systems. 13. Absolute max. valve lift: (.510 int.,.535 exh.) zero valve retainer. 14. No girdles, rev kits, or valve train stabilizers. Tappet access for inspection required. 15. No repositioning, bor ing or bushing of cam or lifter bores. Max cam dia Valves: Int. 1.94, exh. 1.60, Stem 11/32, orig. length & w eight, No altered or hollow stems. 17: Ferrous material only: Valves, Retainers, Keepers, Push rods, Springs, Tappets, Cam and cam drives, Crank, Rods, Wrist pins, Fasteners, Main Caps, No titanium or ceramics in engine. 18. Point type Magnetos, or Ketter ing style ignition. Constant flow fuel injection only lb. w t. penalty for use of any electronic components, incl: ignition, ECU s or driver aids SPEC head: The Racesaver 305 Brodix Head and the All Pro Spec head are per mitted for use in the Virginia Motor Speedw ay 305 spec series. Absolutely NO changes. NO machining, milling, resurfacing, grinding, polishing, w elding, acid or caustic work, shot peening, glass beading, coating, or any other process that w ill alter the machined surfaces or the natural sand cast finish. Must retain all original dimensions & configurations including; Valves, springs, retainers, stems, & guides. The ONLY w ork allow ed is: Reseating the valves. NO top cuts that extend into the aluminum of the chamber. NO, under the seat relief cuts. NO w ork that enlarges the as delivered throat size, Int. & Ex. (+ or -.010). NO bow l changes. NO CHANGES! 6 heads has a gauge dimension that must be met for them to be certified. Change any one of them and you w ill be disqualified. The stamped identification marks may not be altered. 21. Compression Ratio: to 1 absolute maximum. C.R. checked w / Whistle, or by pouring the assembled cylinder. Absolute minimum assembled cylinder volume: 70 cc. Heads may NOT be milled!!! Only exception is pre- approved milling to repair surface. All repairs MUST be preapproved. Contact RACESAV ER before attempting repairs. A repair authorization number w ill be issued. After repair, heads must be recertified and marked accordingly. Original serial numbers and certification marks must be intact. They may not be altered or obscured. Any & all repairs MUST be pre-approved and heads recertified. If any spec head is found to be modified; it must be REPLACED with a certified spec head. 22. The spirit and intent of the 305 SPEC Engine Rules will prevail. Any attempt to circumvent the rules w ill result in confiscation of suspect parts, and other significant penalties. We reserve the right to exchange any Spec Head at any time. If heads are illegal, NO exchange w ill be made. Illegal heads w ill be restamped as ILLEGAL. Post-Race Inspection: 3.0 All parts found illegal become the property of VMS until the end of the season. 3.1 Can OR Can t rule: DO NOT try to read betw een the lines in the rule book. Just because the book doesn t say you can t, don t assume you can. Any modifications not specifically outlined here are at the Tech Departments discretion.
