1 for Type Vee-Ball Designs V150, V200 and V300 Rotary Control Valves Sizes 1- through 12-inch, Instruction Manual, Form 5290, September 2004 This errata sheet provides ball centering instructions for the SS-260, which is a special Vee-Ball construction for bi-directional shutoff, featuring an eccentrically machined ball segment and seal protector ring. All other installation and maintenance operations not included in this errata can be found in the instruction manual (listed above). Determining Mounting Position The actuator can be either right- or left-hand mounted, with the actuator on the right or left side when viewed from upstream. See figure 1. The Vee-Ball has one V-notch. For right-hand mounting, the ball will be in the top of the valve body when the valve is open. For left-hand mounting the ball will be in the bottom of the valve body when the valve is open. Actuator Mounting Use the appropriate actuator instruction manual when mounting the SS-260 to the actuator. While the actuator/valve assembly must be removed from the pipeline, the actuator may remain mounted on the valve as you replace the ball seal. Before correctly centering the ball in the seal, attach the actuator to the valve body and the lever to the driveshaft as described in the appropriate instruction manual. The valve should be installed with the shaft horizontal to ensure proper operation. Determining Correct Closed Position WARNING The Vee-Ball closes with a shearing, cutting motion. To avoid personal injury, keep hands, tools, and other objects away from the ball while stroking the valve. CAUTION When viewing the valve from the actuator side, the valve rotates counterclockwise to close. Damage to the valve could result when mounting or adjusting the actuator if counterclockwise to close valve rotation is not adhered to. 1. To help ensure correct centering of the Vee-Ball on the seal, two conditions must be met; a. The valve must be removed from the pipeline so the position of the ball can be checked. If removal is not possible, the operator must have access to the valve internal components to verify position of the ball and to make internal measurements. b. Rotate the ball to the closed position after mounting the actuator. 2. Carefully wedge the ball against the actuator-side end bearing using a screwdriver or similar tool inserted between the follower ear of the ball and the valve body, see figure 2.

Remove the wedge only after the lever is correctly positioned on the valve shaft and the lever is connected to the actuator piston and rod or diaphragm rod. 19B8493 E0740 / IL Figure 3. Centering Template in Use 3. Energize the actuator using the appropriate instruction manual. Make sure all safety precautions are taken to ensure personal safety. The actuator needs to be energized to ensure that the ball is in the closed position. Table 1. Make sure you pry just the ball, and do not get the lip of the bearing with the pry bar. Centering the Ball 1. When viewed from the valve body inlet, the ball is in the proper position when the flat spot on the top of the ball is exactly in the center of the seal package. 2. Make a copy of the centering template in figure 4 out of a suitable stiff material. Place the centering template in the opening at the seal (see figure 3). Find the center of the template and make sure the spot on the ball is centered directly below it. 3. Adjust the actuator linkage as described in the appropriate actuator instruction manual until the ball is centered in the closed position. A line is stamped on the actuator end of the drive shaft (see figure 1) to indicate the ball position. Use the appropriate actuator instruction manual and figure 1 of this manual when mounting the actuator or changing actuator styles and positions. 3

With the ball centered in the closed position, use a feeler gauge to measure the gap that is present between the seal and seal protector ring (see figure 5.) To find the location of the minimum gap, measure the gap around the entire circumference of the seal. 2. The minimum gap measured must be inches. 3. If the gap measures less than inches, rotate the ball toward the open position and adjust the actuator closed position travel stops to obtain a minimum gap of inches. Use only genuine Fisher replacement parts.
