1 ADVANCED AUTOMATION SYSTEM The CINTAC Advanced Automation System combines JAMESBURY actuator expertise with STONEL advanced communication and control system technology to form a totally compact, integrated automation package. CINTAC dramatically simplifies and reduces the cost of automating rotary on-off valves by eliminating the need to engineer, procure and assemble separate rack and pinion actuators, switches, solenoid valves, linkages, tubes, and fittings. The CINTAC Advanced Automation System has been designed as a cost-effective platform with field-proven components. Designed to support future growth, the system includes advanced diagnostics, digital bus communication capabilities and automated on-line emergency shutdown testing. Users benefit from intelligent reliability, plug and play installation, as well as many unique standard features that make the system easier to use, install and maintain. The CINTAC system combines the latest on-off valve monitoring or networking technology with a state-of-the-art pneumatic module. It s a factory-certified package ready for fast plug and play installation right out of the box. The CINTAC actuation system is a rugged, compact, totally integrated package that comes assembled and does not require external tubing, eliminating the need to replace leaking fittings and damaged tubes or hoses. 3 A130-1EN CINTAC ADVANCED AUTOMATION SYSTEM METSO AXIOM COMMUNICATION AND CONTROL FEATURES The CINTAC automation system provides reliable and scalable on-off valve networking and communications solutions. Using a contact-free magnetic resistive (Mag Res) sensor system, CINTAC reliably monitors exact valve position. The Mag Res sensor system is tolerant of lateral and vertical shaft movement, and cams, shafts and other mechanical parts prone to wear are not required. High accuracy position sensor system is solid state with no moving wear points for highly reliable and precise position feedback. Contact free -- no mechanical parts or connections to wear out or bind. Unaffected by lateral or vertical shaft movement. Push button switch setting allows for true contact-free position setting and eliminates having to set cams. LED for open/close position and solenoid power. Built in position indicator for multiple visual status indication. Short circuit protection; prevents the potential for burned-out switches. Unit is completely sealed and protected from corrosion due to moisture. Solid-state circuitry assures the longevity of switches. Built in rebreather on spring return version automatically feeds clean instrument air to the spring housing, eliminating the potential for internal corrosion (i.e., from sucking in dirt, dust, etc.). Transparent polycarbonate components are UV stabilized. In addition to being corrosion resistant and temporarily submersible, CINTAC is suitable for use in hazardous areas (NEMA 4, 4X and 6 rated; Class I & II Div 2 Nonincendive; Class I & II Div 1 and 2 Intrinsically Safe). With universal power input, it accepts either AC or DC input voltage for easy adaptation to existing power and eliminates potential for burned-out electronics. This results in reduced inventory levels (one unit meets most power needs). Critical components are fully integrated but easily accessible through an impact resistant, removable cover. Enclosure and pneumatic manifold are constructed of a durable anodized and polyurethane coated exterior. All fasteners, including adjustment screws, are stainless steel for corrosion resistance. Leak-free integral air porting further improves reliability by eliminating crimping or bending of tubing, leaking fittings, and worn or broken hoses. Air control valve is tolerant of dirty air; manual override is standard. Operates at temperatures ranging from -4º F to +150º F (-20 C to 66 C) and pressures to 116 PSI (8 bar). Units with a low temperature option to -40º F (-40 C) are also available. CT-SERIES ACTUATOR PNEUMATIC FEATURES The heart of the system is a rugged, field proven rack and pinion pneumatic module with ISO 5211 interface for compatibility with any quarter turn valve. The CINTAC automation system combines high cycle life, rugged construction and a compact, symmetrical design with a unique range of features and options. Modular design with same body and end caps for double-acting and spring return models reduce inventory. Failure direction can be reversed easily from spring-toopen or spring-to-close orientation simply by inverting the pistons. Pneumatic module to valve attachments comply with ISO 5211/1 and EN Bearings on all sides and rotating moving parts ensure long life. Dual piston rack-and-pinion mechanism for simple construction, high cycle life and constant torque. Extruded aluminum body with honed internal surface for strength and lower coefficient of friction. Mechanically multi-guided aluminum pistons for precise movement, low friction and high cycle life. Machined teeth on piston racks and pinions for excellent engagement and maximum efficiency. Hard-anodized PTFE-coated body, polyester-coated end caps, and epoxy-coated springs, along with internal and external stainless steel fasteners, provide corrosion resistance in a variety of difficult applications and environments. Safety-contained multi-spring design with preloaded and heavy-duty coated springs for simpler range versatility, greater safety and corrosion resistance. External adjustable stops in both directions assure flexibility and accuracy when setting the valve in the open and closed positions. As an added safety feature, the external adjustment screws are slotted for indicating the presence of internal pressure. Pressure will vent before the adjustment screws are completely backed out of the pneumatic module. 4 METSO A130-1EN PNEUMATIC MODULE SELECTION To select a pneumatic module for a particular valve and service, first determine the maximum operating torque that will be required from the applicable valve bulletin. Then refer to the appropriate torque output table and select a pneumatic module that will, at the available supply pressure, provide a torque output no less than the required operating torque for the valve. For spring-return units, both the spring torque and the air torque must be sufficient. In the event confirmation is desired for the selection of a pneumatic module under specific service conditions, include full details on trim, seat materials, and media characteristics. 6 METSO A130-1EN Mechanical Safety Lockout To comply with the intent of OSHA requirements for locking actuators in position prior to performing maintenance, an actuator can have the mechanical safety lockout option added to it. Design of the stop cam allows for locking the pneumatic module in either the full-open or full-closed position. CINTAC equipped with this option have a special lockout screw and a tamperproof cover attached to the housing of the pneumatic module with stainless steel wire. The lockout kits are readily available to permanently lock the pneumatic module in place to prevent unwanted operation. Approx. 100% Adjustable Travel Stop To limit the rotation on the stroke beyond the standard ±4 of a CINTAC pneumatic module, a stainless steel 100%- adjustable travel stop option can be added. The stops, located in the end caps, allow the valve position to be set anywhere between full closed and full open. This option limits travel of only the counter-clockwise stroke for standard double-acting and spring-closed units. 7 A130-1EN CINTAC ADVANCED AUTOMATION SYSTEM Declutchable Manual Override A side-declutchable manual override is available for the CINTAC Advanced Automation System. It consists of a manual gear actuator mounted between CINTAC and the valve. The device is normally disengaged from the shaft. Upon engagement of the override clutch, overriding the pneumatic module is done with ease, aided by the highreduction ratio of the manual gear unit. 8 METSO A130-1EN The AXIOM's pneumatic valve system consists of a low power pilot that drives the main high flow spool valve. Pilots may be selected for conventional, intrinsically safe or bus networking applications. Both stages of the pneumatic valve system have been designed for long life, high tolerance to air line contaminants and ease of maintenance should components become fouled. Special Features Pilot poppet and main spool design offer long life, exceptional tolerance to dirty air and tight shut-off. Spool and pilot valve may be conveniently removed and cleaned should large contaminants become lodged in the valve. Universal solenoid may be used for standard AC or DC applications. 5-way, 2 position spring return configuration may be used for either single or double-acting actuators. Low power consumption of solenoid reduces current flow on bus networks enabling more units and longer distances on a single segment. Rebreather channels exhausted air from pressurized side of pneumatic module into spring side preventing ingestion of contaminated air from the environment that may corrode springs or actuator internals. Standard internal manual override enables convenient setup. Simply operate the pneumatic module to the open position (using standard manual override) and push the "Set Open" button. Operate the pneumatic module to the closed position and push the "Set Closed" button. Position settings remain locked in when power is removed and reapplied. 10 METSO A130-1EN Reduce Plant Down Time and Cut Maintenance Costs with AS-Interface Diagnostics. The Communication and Control Module 96 features optional on-board diagnostic systems which may predict potential automated valve malfunctions. As a result, plant down time may be reduced by repairing discrete automated valves which, when called upon to operate, would have failed to do so. And, should problems occur during normal operation, maintenance personnel will be aided in rapidly locating failure causes, thus reducing maintenance time and speeding valve repair and operation renewal. DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Processing Plant Diagnostic Alerts & Capabilities Low pneumatic supply pressure Should supply pressure drop below operational threshold level, a local and remote alert will be activated. Malfunctioning solenoid A shorted or opened solenoid circuit will be identified during operation with a local and remote alert. Stuck pneumatic spool or pilot valve Should either the pilot poppet or main spool be stuck for any reason (air line contamination, freezing, etc.), a local and remote alert will be energized. Stuck process valve/actuator If the actuator stalls in mid stroke and no on-board problem sources are identified, an alert will be energized locally and remotely that the problem source is located in the valve /actuator assembly. Remote switch setting Open and Closed limit switch settings may be made with onboard push buttons or remotely through the control system. Identification winking To positively confirm the field device identity, the control room may initiate the wink function which flashes both open and closed LEDs without affecting valve operational status. Automatic reset without manual intervention Alerts are cleared automatically when normal operating conditions are restored. Control System Interface AS-Interface 2.1 or greater level protocol may be used to interface up to 31 CINTAC units per loop into the control system. Communication bits may be mapped into standard DCS or PLC as desired. No special software is required.
