7 FLOWMETER MAINT. Flowmeters can become clogged with chemicals. Dirty flowmeters are not warrantable ( top photo at right shows a flowmeter with some chemical residue in the turbine area) The flowmeter should be cleaned daily with TY16041 Brake and Parts Cleaner, as shown in the photo at bottom right. The flowmeter and entire solution system should be rinsed with clean water daily.

8 HYDRAULIC TREAD ADJUST MAINTENANCE TY25398 The tread adjust system contains special alloy wear pads that will wear slightly with each use of the tread adjust. Periodic readjustment of the tread adjust pads is considered normal wear and tear. and is not warrantable. Replacement of the pads due to wear might be necessary in situations where the tread adjust is used frequently. Oil, grease or other lubricants should not be used on the machined axle surfaces ( see photo). Use of such products will attract dirt and cause accelerated wear to the pads and axle surfaces.

12 Removing Air from Wet Booms Fill solution tank with approximately 125 gallons of water. Unfold and lower boom for access to nozzles. Turn off all nozzle bodies except for the last nozzle body furthest from the machine centerline on all pipe assemblies. Remove the spray tip from these nozzle bodies. There are two assemblies on the inner wings, one on the outer wings, and one on the breakaway sections. One of the outside nozzles on the center section can be turned on. Lower the center section and tilt both boom wings all the way up. Run the sprayer in manual spray mode at kpa (90 psi). Cycle sprayer operation through at least three ON-OFF cycles as follows to bleed trapped air from the booms: Set Master ON/OFF switch to ON and watch for water discharge from open nozzle bodies. Set Master ON/OFF switch to OFF and allow machine to sit for AT LEAST 15 seconds in OFF mode to allow air to move to high points. Watch the discharge from each open nozzle body for smooth uniform output. Repeat ON- OFF spray cycle until output is uniform. Continue spraying until only gallons of water remain in the tank. Rotate all nozzle bodies to spray position. Reinstall spray tips previously removed.

16 SPRAYER SETUP Application Rates 1, 2, or 3 Where the target application rates are programmed into SprayStar. Minimum Pressure Where the minimum pressure is programmed into SprayStar. Minimum pressure is the minimum pressure maintained while spraying. Spray Off Pressure Where the spray off pressure is programmed into SprayStar. Spray off pressure is the pressure maintained while not spraying. Typically used to maintain high pressure setting for agitation when not spraying. It should not be used as a means for boom charge compensation. Tank Volume Where tank volume is programmed into SprayStar. High Flow Rate ON/OFF Allows the operator to turn ON/Off the high flow rate. Spray System MIN MAX Allows the operator to adjust the response time of the SprayStar rate control. Boom Charge Allows the operator to charge the boom at an automatically calculated pressure (Boom Charge Pressure) for 3 seconds after the master ON/OFF switch (A) is pressed ON. Foam Marker Allows the operator to change setting of foam marker from AUTO HIGH, AUTO LOW, MANUAL HIGH, MANUAL LOW, and OFF. Eductor Mode Allows the operator to select eductor pressure mode from Low, Medium, and High settings. Boom Pressure Relief Allows the operator to activate the boom pressure relief feature. Alarm Setup Allows the operator to turn on or off a flow rate error, sections off and ladder alarms.

17 Setting Minimum Pressure

18 Setting Minimum Pressure Determine and set the minimum pressure required using the following procedures: Unfold booms. Turn all boom spray section switches on. Select the Setup softkey (A) to view the setup menu. Select the Spray Setup tab (B). Select input box (C) next to Min Spray Press. (psi) to be changed and enter a new value using pop-up keyboard (D). Enter 0. Select the enter button (E) to accept new value. Turn rate control switch to manual pressure setting MAN. Select input box (F) next to Spray Off Pressure (psi), to be changed and enter a new value using pop-up keyboard (D). Enter 0. Select the enter button (E) to accept new value. Turn on solution pump and master spray switch. Increase Spray Off Pressure by 6.9 kpa (.07 bar) (1 psi) increments until all nozzle body check valves open and all nozzles are spraying at full pattern. Note pressure when this occurs. Select input box (C) next to Min Spray Press. (psi) to be changed and enter a new value using pop-up keyboard (D). Enter pressure from previous step. Select the enter button (E) to accept new value.

20 Setting Spray Off Pressure Select the Setup softkey (A) to view the setup menu. Select the Spray Setup tab (B). Select input box (C) next to Spray Off Press. (psi) and enter a new value using pop-up keyboard. Select the enter button to accept new value.

22 Enabling High Flow Rate Select the Setup softkey (A) to view the setup menu. Select the Spray Setup tab (B). NOTE: A check mark in the box indicates that High Flow Rate is activated. Select check box (C) next to High Flow Rate ON / Off and a check will appear inside box activating item. To deactivate a check box, touch check box to remove the check. NOTE: When High flow rate is turned ON in SprayStar the flowmeter valve must be opened on boom. If SprayStar and flowmeter valve settings do not agree: Flowmeter valve open but SprayStar High Flow OFF will overapply Flowmeter valve closed but SprayStar High Flow ON will underapply

23 Applying Low Application Rates

24 Applying Low Application Rates When applying low application rates, it may be necessary to turn orifice valve (A) to the closed (low) position. To determine when to close orifice valve, calculate boom flow rate. When solution flow rate is 100 Lpm (26 gpm) or less, close the orifice valve. If solution flow rate is greater that 100 Lpm (26 gpm) open orifice valve all the way. Determining Solution Flow Rate: When spraying, go to Sprayer Main Page and check solution flow rate (B) if that feature has been selected on one of the dropdown menus available on that page. If solution flow rate is 100 Lpm (26 gpm) or less, close the orifice valve. If solution flow rate is greater than 100 Lpm (26 gpm) open orifice valve all the way. Determine size of nozzles and multiply by the total number of nozzles on the boom. If solution flow rate is 100 Lpm (26 gpm) or less, close the orifice valve. If solution flow rate is greater that 100 Lpm (26 gpm) open orifice valve all the way. Example: If 8003 type nozzles are installed and there are 54 on the boom: 0.3 gpm x 54 = 16.2 gpm (solution flow rate). Operator would close orifice valve.

25 Setting Sprayer Response

26 Setting Sprayer Response The Sprayer Response allows the operator to adjust the response time of the SprayStar rate control. This is the time it takes the actual application rate to reach the target application rate in auto mode. The response time has five different settings. A 5 indicates the fastest response time (MAX) and a 1 indicates the slowest response time (MIN). Each step down from 5 requires more response time to adjust to the target rate. For almost all situations, the response time should be set at 3 for all 4730 and 4830 sprayers. If a different boom is installed, or an unusual configuration on a John Deere boom is installed, the response time may have to be reduced or slowed. When To Change The Response Time Setting: When the target application rate is never reached increase response When the application rate is erratic decrease response When the time it takes the actual application rate to reach the target rate is quite long, approximately more than 4 seconds increase response To change the response time do the following: Select the Setup softkey (A) to view the setup menu. Select the Spray Setup tab (B). Select drop-down box (C) next to Spray System MIN MAX and select the new value.

27 Setup Boom Charge

28 Setup Boom Charge A - Master Spray ON/OFF Switch Boom charge allows the operator to charge the boom at a manually specified or automatically calculated pressure (Boom Charge Pressure) for 3 seconds after the Master Spray ON/OFF switch (A) is pressed ON. After 3 seconds, the automatic rate control system will take over. This allows the spray rate control system to reach the target application rate faster when smaller flow rate nozzles are used. In SprayStar setup, place boom charge in AUTO when solution flow rate is under 100 Lpm (26 gpm). To Determine Solution Flow Rate: When spraying, select gallon per minute item from one of the drop-down menus on the Sprayer Main page OR Determine size of nozzles and multiply by the total number of nozzles on the boom. Example: If 8003 type nozzles are installed and there are 54 on the boom: 0.3 gpm x 54 = 16.2 gpm (solution flow rate). Operator would need to turn boom charge on AUTO.

29 Relieving Boom Pressure

30 The Boom Pressure Relief function allows the pressure trapped in the boom to be bled off after spraying is complete. The pressure is bled off by allowing the boom sections valves to be opened for approximately 3 seconds after the solution pump and remote load are shut off. It is recommended that the operator raise the boom center frame to its highest position. The solution pressure must be 4 psi or less and the engine is running for function to operate. The operator must press the Master Spray ON/OFF button to activate the function. After the 3-second period, the boom section valves will close. The main purpose of this function is to minimize the possibility of the sprayer nozzle bodies leaking while in transit. 1. Select the Setup softkey (A) to view the setup menu. 2. Select the Spray Setup tab (B). NOTE: A check mark in the box indicates that "Boom Pressure Relief" is activated. 3. Select check box (C) next to "Boom Pressure Relief" and a check will appear inside box activating item. To deactivate a check box, touch check box to remove the check. 4. Set Solution Pump ON/OFF switch to the OFF position. 5. If not already in the OFF position, set all Remote Load Switches to the OFF position. 6. If not already in the fully raised position, raise boom center frame to fully raised position. Boom can be folded or unfolded. 7. Press Master Spray ON/OFF, after pressing Master Spray, the operator should hear an audible alarm and see the message (A) "RELIEVING BOOM PRESSURE" displayed.

31 Flowmeter Shut-off Valve Flowmeter shut-off valve (A) allows the operator to close the pressure line when cleaning the flowmeter(s). Closing the pressure line limits the amount of solution that drains and limits the amount of air introduced to the system. To open, rotate handle parallel to solution hose as shown. To close, rotate handle perpendicular to solution hose. A-Flowmeter Shut-off Valve

32 Solution Pump is Dry- Turn Off Pump Immediately This alarm is set when the SprayStar controller detects that solution pump switch is on and the solution pressure is less than 7 psi (48 kpa) for more than 3 seconds with the pump operating at a speed greater than 70% of the maximum pump rpm. This alarm will be cleared/reset at power-up, if the solution pump is turned off, or if the solution pressure is greater than 7 psi. Audible Alarm: Continuous Audible Alarm

37 Sprayer Homepage BoomTrac will be located on the bottom of your sprayer homepage When engaged the 3 or 5 sensor boxes will be illuminated green when that sensor is requiring the boom to react in order to achieve the target height To reach the BoomTrac settings press the BoomTrac Pro button located on the bottom of the homepage or press Icon E

38 BoomTrac Pro Setup Sensor Target Mode will give you the option of Canopy or Ground Ground mode will look for the second height reading and react to it BoomTrac Response changes how fast the booms are going to move to achieve the target height Target Height Input Mode allows you to set each sensor at a different height or you can Match Center Frame and all sensors will follow one height setting BoomTrac Status and Sensor information shows the status of the system. If the boxes are green the system is functioning correctly

39 BoomTrac Calibrations With the last software update any sprayer calibrations will be time and date stamped when they were last done If the booms are not staying level then you may need to calibrate the boom level position If the booms are not reacting smoothly and are jerking up and down then you may need to calibrate the boom hydraulic valves You DO NOT want to Reset BoomTrac Pro Calibrations to Factory Default

46 Section Control Setup Section Control uses the implement and machine offsets to calculate the distance for the turn on and turn off Speed is another variable that is used. In order for Section Control to function properly you need to enter and exit the headlands at a consistent speed.

47 Section Control Settings There are three options to set your Section Control to function correctly for your operation Included in your coverage options you can also select a percent overlap This can be adjusted from 25% to 125% Turn on and Turn off times are allowing for the delay from when your valves close to when your product is no longer flowing Default time is 1.0 for turn on and.6 for turn off This times should be close for your operations and they may be changed a small amount as needed

58 Vari-Cool fan The Vari-Cool fan drive system precisely controls the speed of the fan in relation to the cooling requirements to maximize efficiency of the engine. The Vari-Cool system is efficient for two primary reasons: The belt drive used in the Vari-Cool system transfers almost 100 percent of the power from the engine to the fan. The variable fan speed sheave is electronically controlled, only operating at the necessary speed to cool the engine and other auxiliary components.

63 Wheel Slip Control Wheel slip prevents losing tractive effort; it does not increase the power. When a wheel starts spinning out, wheel-slip control automatically diverts power to the other three wheels until all four wheels are turning at the same speed. Not available above 15 mph Software will not take a slipping motor to 0 cc s as before, instead it will adjust to lower flow based on rpm from wheel speed sensors on all wheel. Software then looks a Radar/GPS for comparison. Software will adjust all motors in steps to maintain motion. By doing this the wheels will continue to move and the result is a machine that in tests would climb just about anything.

64 IT4 Engine The 4940 Sprayer comes with the 9.0 L PowerTech PSX engine delivering 250 kw (340 hp) with a 10 percent power bulge to 275 kw (374 hp). The John Deere PowerTech PSX 9.0L engine in the 4940 is extremely quiet at idle due to pilot injection, a small amount of fuel injected early in the combustion chamber that lessens combustion knock heard in diesel engines. The John Deere-exclusive single injector control, electronic fuel-injection system, and other key engine parts work together to sense engine load and then instantly respond as needed
