2 TRU-BALANCE Wheel Centering Products are unlike anything on the market today. With hub-piloted wheels the weight of the wheel and tire rests on the top pilots creating a gap in the bottom pilots. Even the smallest gap results in an eggshaped motion upon rotation. This uneven motion creates tire vibration and irregular tire wear. The bottom line is you can t balance an egg. Gravity causes the wheel to rest on the upper hub pilot creating a gap at the other pilots resulting in an off-center condition. This causes wheel vibration and irregular tire wear. The TRU-BALANCE products bypass the hub pilots and center the wheel back to the wheel studs. This creates true center of the wheel and eliminates the uneven motion. The result is a smooth ride, increased tire life and increased fuel mileage. If you can fit a business card between any of your pilots you are off center. How to choose the right solution for you. All of the TRU-BALANCE products do the same thing: They center the wheels. The only difference is the application of the product. Solution A This is our reusable shop tool that you use when you mount the wheels. THESE PINS DO NOT STAY ON THE WHEEL. The three pins are threaded on the studs in the 12, 4 and 8 o clock positions. The wheel is then mounted over the pins. Use an impact wrench to tighten the lug nuts. Remove the pins and place the remaining lug nuts on the wheel and tighten with the impact wrench. Go over the wheel again and tighten to your wheel manufacturers specifications. There are various sizes of the tool available. See page 3 to determine which tool set is correct for you. Solution B This is a sleeve set that stays on the wheels at all times. It is for STEER WHEELS ONLY with a universal brake drum. Three sleeves are threaded on the studs at the 12, 4 and 8 o clock positions of each wheel until seated against the hub. The brake drum is then installed followed by the wheel. The unique shoulder design of this sleeve centers both the wheel and the drum. There are many different sizes of Solution B to accommodate the various brake drums. See page 4 for the sizes available as well as instructions on how to identify your brake drum number. Solution C This is a sleeve set that stays on the wheels at all times. It can be used for steer and drive axles as well as trailer axles. Three sleeves per wheel slide over the studs and into the wheel from the outside using the 12, 4 and 8 o clock positioning. All sizes available can be found on page 5. Regardless of which solution you choose you should always use our wire brush to thoroughly clean the holes and the threads to ensure the best centering results. When I came across the Tru-Balance products in early 2005 I was skeptical. I decided to try the centering pins on a few of the major fleets I was having vibration problems with. This product has solved my vibration problems. 8 Radial Run-OUT Gauge Radial run-out is an out of round condition in which the radius of the wheel or tire is not consistent from the wheel center to any point on the rim or the tread. Tire and wheel radial run-out are often factors in troubleshooting ride and handling and in maintaining correct wheel balancing to reduce vibration. Extends to 20 TRU-BALANCE is happy to now offer this new tool to make measuring this potential out of round condition easier than ever before. Warm up the tire 2. Lift vehicle so the tire clears the ground by a couple of inches. 3. Turn steering wheel to have leading edge of tire facing out. 4. Wipe the tread surface clean. 5. Adjust height of gauge to approximately the center of tire rotation. 6. Grab the base of the gauge and slide forward enough to depress the gauge roller assembly by approximately 1/8. This is called preloading. 7. Make a chalk mark across the width of the tire. 8. Line up the chalk mark with the center of the gauge roller assembly. 9. Rotate the indicator dial to zero or, if using a digital indicator, reset to zero. 10. Slowly rotate the tire and watch the indicator to see where the high and low areas are. Add the high area to the low area reading and that will indicate the total out of round of the tire. 11.
