1 Windows and mirrors ELECTRIC WINDOWS WARNINGS The windows have an anti-trap protection system. However, before closing a window care must be taken to ensure that none of the occupants have any part of their body in a position where it could be trapped. Even with an anti-trap system death or serious injury can occur. Ensure that all adult passengers are familiar with the controls and the potential dangers of electric windows. For their safety, when leaving children in the vehicle always remove the key from the starter switch. Do not allow passengers to extend any part of their bodies through a window aperture while the vehicle is moving - injury from flying debris, branches of trees or other obstructions could occur. Operating the windows E Right-hand front window 2. Left-hand front window 3. Right-hand rear window 4. Left-hand rear window 5. Rear window isolation switch The windows can be operated when the starter switch is at position I or II and for up to 40 seconds after the starter switch is turned to position 0 (provided a front door is not opened). Press and hold the front of the respective switch to lower a window. Lift and hold the front of the switch to close a window. The window will stop moving as soon as the switch is released. One touch operation (front windows only) WARNINGS Ensure that you remove the remote control when leaving occupants in the vehicle. This will prevent unsupervised operation of the windows, which may result in injury. The front windows can be fully opened or closed with a single press of the switch. Firmly press or lift (and then release) the front of the switch, to open or close the window. Window movement can be stopped by pressing the switch again. Resetting one touch operation If the power is disconnected when a window is open, one touch operation is disabled until the window position is re-calibrated. To re-calibrate the window, close the window and keep the switch pressed for one second. Anti-trap mechanism (front windows only) To prevent a window trapping vulnerable parts of the body, the anti-trap sensor detects an obstruction during window closing. If an obstruction is detected, the window will stop and then open slightly. 100
2 The anti-trap feature can be overridden by attempting to close the window at intervals of less than 10 seconds. On the fourth attempt the window will move up a short distance with increased force to try and move the obstruction. If this fails to move the obstruction, anti-trap will be disabled until reset. Resetting anti-trap To reset anti-trap, close the window and keep the switch pressed for one second. Rear window isolation switch Rear window operation E80396 The rear windows can be operated from the switches on the rear doors if the rear window isolation switch has not been activated. WARNING If children are carried in the rear seats, the isolator switch should be used to prevent operation of the windows. If the widows are operated by young children there is a risk of death or serious injury. E80397 Press the right-hand side of the switch to isolate the window switches on the rear doors. Press the left-hand side to restore independent control. 101
3 EXTERIOR MIRRORS Note: Depending on the type of mirror lens used, distances may be difficult to judge accurately. Objects viewed in the mirror may be closer than they appear. Proximity mirror (Japan only) ELECTRIC EXTERIOR MIRRORS CAUTION Objects viewed in exterior mirrors may appear further away than they actually are. Mirror glass adjustment E92146 E92002 The proximity mirror's split lens provides views along the left side and directly ahead of the vehicle to reduce blind spots. Rotate the mirror a few degrees at a time and then check the view from the driver's seat before making further adjustments. Note: Alignment marks on the mirror head and arm, indicate the initial position the mirror was set to during manufacture. With the starter switch turned to position I or II, rotate the knob to select either the left or right mirror. E81038 Push the knob as illustrated to tilt the mirror glass up, down, left or right. Note: On vehicles fitted with the driver's seat memory facility, up to three exterior mirror positions for each starter key can be stored. See MEMORY FUNCTION (page 124). 102
4 Folding the mirror body E81039 The door mirrors fold forwards or rearwards on impact. They can also be folded towards the side windows into a park position. Reverse mirror dipping Vehicles with driver s seat memory have a function which dips the exterior mirrors whenever reverse gear is selected, giving the driver a view of the kerb. When this feature is first used, the mirrors will dip to a preset position. You can reset the dip position as follows: 1. Turn the starter key to position I or II. Do not start the engine. 2. Select or store a driver s seat memory position. See MEMORY FUNCTION (page 124). 3. Select reverse gear. The exterior mirrors will adjust to a preset position. 4. Adjust the mirrors to the required dipped position. 5. Perform a memory store procedure on the currently selected driving seat position. 6. DOOR MIRROR DIP STORED will be displayed on the message centre accompanied by a single chime. This feature can be enabled or disabled. See TRIP COMPUTER (page 107). E81040 With the rotary knob in the central position, push it down to fold the mirrors. Push it down again to unfold the mirrors. If the mirrors are accidentally knocked out of position (i.e. with one mirror folded and the other in the normal position), press the switch again to re-synchronise them. Note: On some vehicles you can manually fold the mirrors towards the side windows. 103
5 INTERIOR MIRROR Manual mirror E80447 Move the lever (forwards or backwards) to counteract the glare from a following vehicle's headlamps. Automatic dimming mirror E81427 Some rear-view mirrors will automatically darken to counteract the glare from the headlamps of a following vehicle. This feature is temporarily switched off when reverse gear is selected. Note: If the rear screen is obscured, or the light falling on the mirror is otherwise obstructed, the automatic dimming may not operate correctly. 104
Windows and mirrors ELECTRIC WINDOWS. Raise and lower. One-touch operation. Automatic window drop for door opening
Windows and mirrors ELECTRIC WINDOWS WARNINGS Before operating power windows you should verify they are free of obstructions and ensure that children and or pets are not in the proximity of window openings.
