Beat the Heat Evening Flying my Wilga - Charlie Campbell The Plane Talk The official monthly Newsletter of Angelo RC Inc www.angelorc.com Angelo R/C Inc. PO Box 60103 San Angelo, Texas 76906 Volume 12, Issue 7 July 2018 Upcoming Events: Thursday July 5th Angelo RC Club Meeting Golden Corral 7:00 PM Saturday August 4th North TX Aeromodelers Swapmeet Denton TX Wow what a heatwave we are in! I don t know if you have had an opportunity to fly but I find the evenings are about the only time I can brave the heat. The field looks great thanks to the help of several members and with this little bit of rain we might look a little greener soon. Please thank Jimmy Fogleman for repairing the damaged flight stations due to the winds the field has recently experienced. Also let s thank Jimmy Gaona for the hard work he has done to revamp the sandbox and kids toys and for sorting through the used airplanes the club has been collecting from donations lately. Also I do appreciate the contributions Jimmy has made to the newsletter by adding articles and pictures. Please remember we always welcome your pictures and comments about the newsletter and club. Sharing your photos and experiences is what this newsletter is for. In other news, the Abilene RC Society has invited our club to a lunch and Fun-Fly hosted at their field. This would likely take place on a Saturday on a date to be determined. We will discuss this and other club business at our local business meeting this week at Golden Corral Restaurant at 7:00PM so come a little early if you want to eat. Till next month please remember to fly safely! FANTASTIC F-100 By Gary Jones: This model came out of my "neglected" hangar. It has got to be about 16 or 17 years old. My friend Chuck Wood, a former F-100 pilot, inspired me to get it back in the air. Sandbox Area Improvements! We recently installed a cabinet in the sandbox area to keep our sandbox toys from blowing away and prevent sun damage. The cabinet has two latches to keep the doors closed and has been screwed to the bleachers behind it to prevent it from tipping over. Additionally, we placed carpet in the area between the sandbox and the cabinet. Thanks to Don and Connie Baker who donated the cabinet and the carpet! If anyone has any toys they would like to donate, please put them in the cabinet. Lastly, we tilled the sand and removed debris from the sandbox area. ARC Suffers Minor Damage to Flying Stations Recently a couple of our flying stations were damaged to the point of repair. Most of the time when a high wind hits our field you may arrive to find the stations turned over as pictured below. Generally these are easy to turn back over. ARC Member Jimmy Fogleman arrived one morning a week ago to find at least two stations we broken. Jimmy has since repaired these station. Please thank Jimmy when you see him for his hard work. CHECKLISTS: Do you use a checklist? Most pilots probably do. At least mentally they are checking the obvious things like which way the wind is blowing. But there should be a few more things that are routinely observed before you take flight. Here are a few examples. Nothing more frustrating than getting to the field and forgetting something at home like your TX! Also don t forget the Pre-Flight leaving the house check list: 1. Plane(s) 2. Radio(s) 3. Batteries (for each plane) 4. Charger 5. Tool box filled with all those things you may need in the field. a. Tape b. Glues- CA, Epoxy, ect... c. Screwdrivers, balldrivers d.
