NBJ52SY / NB7J52SY REPLACES: 06.06.05 REVISED: 08.08.10 FITTING INSTRUCTIONS JEEP CHEROKEE KJ 10/01-02/08 76mm NUDGE BAR and 76mm SERIES 2 NUDGE BAR VEHICLE FRONTAL PROTECTION SYSTEM (VFPS) FOR AIR BAG & ADR COMPLIANT VEHICLES Check installation hardware before commencing. 1. Remove bumper cover. 10/01 10/04 models: A) Remove four self- tappers along top of grille/headlight surround and remove. B) Disconnect wiring plug near left hand headlight. C) Remove six plastic clips from along top of bumper cover. D) Remove two lower plastic clips from flares and one plastic clip from bottom of flares (each side). E) Remove one plastic clip from lower inside portion of plastic inner guard (each side). F) Remove four 10mm head bolts from lower central bumper cover. G) Pull inner guard clear to access bumper cover / flare plastic clips. Three plastic clips (each side) attach flares to bumper cover. Two locks on clips must be pushed in by hand to release flare. Pull flares out and lift bumper cover off top tabs and ease bumper cover forward to access wiring. Disconnect one indicator wiring plug (each side) and one spotlight wiring plug (each side)(where fitted) and remove bumper cover. 11/04 models: A) Unclip 6 clips along top of grille/headlight surround and remove grille. B) Remove two 10mm head bolts in bumper cover, near headlight. C) Remove fog lights (if fitted). D) Remove two plastic push in/out clips and one plastic Christmas tree clip (each side) from plastic inner guards. E) Remove two 10mm head bolts from lower bumper cover. F) Unclip from flare at side and pull forward. Disconnect indicator wiring by pulling up red locking clip. Then pushing in black release clip. Repeat for other side. Slide bumper cover forward off vehicle. 2. Remove crash component from front of chassis. Remove tow bracket with nuts/bolts from drivers side. See figure 1. 3. Insert 3/8 x 1 ½ single bolt on plate (supplied) through large hole in chassis and drop through mounting holes. See figure 2. 4. Insert 3/8 x 1 ½ double bolt plate through front of chassis. See figure 2. 5. Install steel mounting brackets (supplied) to bolts. Use nuts/washers (supplied) FINGER TIGHTEN ONLY. See figure 3. 6. Align steel mounting brackets centrally on vehicle square to front of chassis. Ensure spacing is correct for protection bar to slide to inside of steel mounting brackets. TIGHTEN IN POSITION. See figure 4. 7. Reinstall crash components to front of chassis.. Copyright ECB Pty Ltd 2010 1
8. 11/04- Models only: Trim out tow bracket recess areas of bumper cover. See figure 5. 9 Apply masking tape or similar to bumper cover where it is to be installed over steel mounting brackets. See figure 6. 10. Reinstall bumper cover over steel mounting brackets. Refit original fog lights (if required) 11. Install protection bar to inside of steel mounting brackets. For 11/04- models use four 3/8 x 1 ½ bolts, nuts and washers (supplied). For 10/04-10/04 use 3/8 x 1 ½ bolts/nuts/washers (supplied) for front holes. Use 3/8 x 1 ½ bolt and 3/8 nut/washers on 150mm wire (supplied) for rear holes. Use socket through hole in towing bracket. See figures 7 and 8. FINGER TIGHTEN ONLY. 12. Align with vehicle. See front and side views figures 9-14 TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS/NUTS. NOTE: Towing points are incorporated into steel mounting brackets. These are designed to be used together via a link for straight line towing and light snatching using an elastic type snatch rope. Always take care when towing or snatching and observe safety requirements of equipment being used. ENSURE NUMBER PLATE IS CLEARLY VISABLE Note: When fitting/refitting the licence plate to the vehicle, ensure there is no obstruction to licence plate vision in accordance with local authorities. If required relocate licence plate to an alternate location. Further VFPS Notes: a) Do not attach VFPS to the vehicle using anchorages not intended for this purpose (e.g. engine mounting bolts). b) Do not use this product for any vehicle make or model, other than those specified by the VFPS manufacturer. c) Do not remove the plaque or label from the VFPS. d) Do not modify the structure of the VFPS in any way. e) No accessory or fitment should project forward of the VFPS forward profile. f) ENSURE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE LEFT WITH VEHICLE OWNER AND/OR OPERATOR. FITTING KIT IMPORTANT INFORMATION Periodically check bolts and nuts for correct tightness, especially if travelling on rough roads 2 Steel mounting brackets. 2 Double bolt plates. 2 Single bolt plates. 4 3/8 x 1 ½ bolts. 10 3/8 nuts. 2 3/8 nuts/washer on 150mm wire. (Not used for 11/04- models) 14 3/8 flat washers. (Only 12 used for 10/01-10/04 models) 10 3/8 spring washers. 6 Plastic push in clips. (Not used for 11/04- models). Copyright ECB Pty Ltd 2010 2
