P202E-(DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID) REDUCTANT PERFORMANCE MODULE- POWERTRAIN CONTROL SIGNAL 77 K428 DB RETURN 53 C2 K426 DB/LG 1 SIGNAL 2 RETURN - DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID 283075071 2

Theory of Operation The Diesel Exhaust Fluid () Injector is mounted to the decomposition tube at the inlet of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Catalyst. The POwertrain Control Module (PCM) sends a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal to Injector to vary the amount of fluid sprayed into the exhaust stream. The PCM will illuminate the MIL lamp after this diagnostic runs and fails in two consecutive trips and diesel exhaust fluid injection into the aftertreatment system is disabled. The PCM will turn off the MIL lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes for three consecutive key cycles. The first warning will occur when the p-code becomes pending or active. The customer will hear a chime and get an EVIC message reading "Service System See Dealer. The second warning level will occur if the customer continues to drive and the code has not cleared. The customer will hear a chime and get an EVIC message reading "Speed Limited to 5 mph in XXX MILES See Dealer". Upon driving until the countdown reaches zero, the customer will hear a chime and get an EVIC message reading "5 mph Max on Restart, Long Idle or Refuel See Dealer. Upon key-off, refuel, or 1 hour long idle, the EVIC message will read, Speed Limited to 5 mph See Dealer. Once induced to a 5 mph derate, the inducement will not clear unless the diagnostic runs and passes, or the PCM is recalibrated. When Monitored: This monitor runs when the Injector is being commanded on. Set Condition: The Powertrain Control Module detects a mechanical failure of the Injector. Possible Causes DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID RETURN CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/ 1. CHECK FOR FLASH UPDATES 1. Turn the ignition on. 2. With the scan tool, verify that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has the latest Flash Update available. Does the PCM have the latest Flash Update? Yes Go To 2 No Perform the latest Flash Update to the PCM. Then, with the scan tool, erase the DTC. Test drive the vehicle duplicating the environmental conditions that set the DTC (Review When Monitored and Set Conditions ). If the DTC does not return, the Test is complete. If the DTC does return, continue on with this Diagnostic, beginning with Test Step 2. Active DTC. 2. ACTIVE DTC 3

1. Turn the ignition on for one minute, engine not running. 2. With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Doser Pump Override Test. 3. With the scan tool, View DTCs. Is the DTC active? Yes Go To 3 No Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION - 6.7L diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/ 3. CHECK FOR THE (K428) SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT 1. Turn ignition off. 2. Disconnect the Injector harness connector. 3. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. 4. Measure the resistance between the (K428) Injector Signal circuit and all other circuits at the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms between the (K428) Injector Signal circuit and all other circuits? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the short between the (K428) Injector Signal circuit and the circuit that measured below 10k Ohms. 4. CHECK FOR THE (K426) RETURN CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT 1. Measure the resistance between the (K426) Injector Return circuit and all other circuits at the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms between the (K426) Injector Return circuit and all other circuits? Yes Go To 5 No Repair the short between the (K428) Injector Return circuit and the circuit that measured below 10k Ohms. 5. 1. Turn ignition off. 2. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. 3. Remove the Injector from the decomposition tube. 4. Reconnect the Injector harness connector. 5. Place the Injector in a container to capture the fluid sprayed. 6. Turn the ignition on. 7. With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Doser Pump Override Test. 4

NOTE: This Test will run for six minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate through out the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate. The fluid should spray out as a mist. There should be no dripping from the holes in the Injector at any time during the duration of the test procedure. 8. Measure the amount of fluid sprayed after the test times out. Does the fluid sprayed measure between 85 ml and 115 ml? Yes The Injector is functioning properly. Remove the Pressure line from the Injector and Supply Pump Assembly and check the fittings for a partial restriction which could cause an intermittent low flow condition. No Replace the Injector in accordance with the service information. (Refer to 25 - Emissions Control/Diesel Exhaust Fluid Emissions/, Diesel Exhaust Fluid - Removal). 5
