Open the trunk lid, and remove the two clips fastening the trunk floor mat. Remove the trunk floor mat and the trunk floor. TRUNK FLOOR MAT TRUNK FLOOR AUDIO UNIT 4. Remove the trunk weatherstrip from the edge of the trunk opening in the area shown. 5. Remove the rear trim panel by removing the four clips and releasing the three hooks. CHANGER INSTALLATION HOOKS (3) REAR TRIM PANEL S (4) Customer information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio station presets. 2. 6. Continue to remove the trunk weatherstrip in the area shown. Remove the three clips, then pull out on the right trunk side trim panel in the direction shown. 8. Remove the bolt, pull the hook toward the rear of the car, then pull the bolster out toward you in the direction shown, remove the right seat side bolster. Turn the center pin in a counterclockwise direction to remove. RIGHT SEAT SIDE BOLSTER 3 1 HOOK 2 BOLT RIGHT TRUNK SIDE TRIM PANEL TRUNK WEATHERSTRIP 9. Pry up on the six retaining tabs, and remove the B-pillar lower trim panel. 7. Inside the passenger s compartment area, remove the rear seat cushion by removing the bolt and releasing the two hooks. 10. Remove the four clips, release the two retaining tabs fastening the right seat side trim, and remove the trim. Take care not to damage the clips. RETAINING TABS (2) RIGHT SEAT SIDE TRIM 12. Remove the center console: A/T Model: Place the shift lever in the Neutral position. Remove the two self-tapping screws, two screws and two clips that fasten the center console and remove the console If equipped with an optional seat armrest, remove the console after reclining the seatback. SELF-TAPPING CONSOLE FRONT S (3) If the vehicle is equipped with a center console armrest, go to step 14; otherwise, continue with step 11. 11. Pull up on the parking brake lever, then remove the console box (nine clips). M/T Model: Remove the shift knob from the lever by holding the plastic section above the boot down firmly with one hand and turning the knob counterclockwise with the other hand. Remove the two self-tapping screws, two screws, and two clips that fasten the center console and remove the console PLASTIC SECTION BOOT SHIFT KNOB SELF-TAPPING With a Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray: With the parking brake applied, place the gear shift lever in the Neutral position. Remove the ashtray. Inside the ashtray opening, remove the one self-tapping screw securing the dashboard center lower cover. Gently pry out on the lower cover to release the six retaining clips. Unplug the cigarette lighter harness, and illumination bulb (if equipped, unplug the fog light harness), then remove the lower cover. CONSOLE ILLUMINATION BULB CIGARETTE LIGHTER RETAINING S (6) ASHTRAY SHIFT LEVER Place in the Neutral position. SELF- TAPPING 13. Remove the dashboard center lower cover. 3620030K 3304120W DASHBOARD LOWER COVER Without a Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray: With the parking brake applied, place the gear shift lever in the Neutral position. Gently pry out on the lower cover to release the six retaining clips. Unplug the accessory power socket connector (if equipped, unplug the fog light harness), and remove the lower cover. If the vehicle is not equipped with a center console armrest, go to step 17; otherwise, continue with step 14. 14. Remove the escutcheon, and the center console trim: A/T Model: Place the shift lever in the Neutral position. Pry up on the four retaining tabs and remove the escutcheon. Pry up on the three clips and six retaining tabs and remove the center console trim. RETAINING TABS (6) M/T Model: Remove the shift knob from the lever by holding the plastic section above the boot down firmly with one hand and turning the knob counterclockwise with the other hand. Pry up on the three clips and six retaining tabs and remove the center console trim. 15. Remove the dashboard center lower cover: Without a Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray: With the parking brake applied, place the gear shift lever in the Neutral position. Remove the two self-tapping screws fastening the dashboard center lower cover. Gently pry out on the dashboard center lower cover to release the rear four clips, then pull the cover rearward to release five clips and one retaining tab. Unplug the accessory power socket connector (if equipped, unplug the fog light harness), and remove the dashboard center lower cover. With a Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray: With the parking brake applied, place the gear shift lever in the Neutral position. Remove the ashtray. Inside the ashtray opening, remove the one self-tapping screw. Remove the two self-tapping screws fastening the dashboard center lower cover. Gently pry out on the dashboard center lower cover to release the rear four clips, then pull the cover rearward to release five clips and one retaining tab. Unplug the cigarette lighter connector, and illumination bulb, then remove the lower cover. 16. Remove the center console: Open the center console lid, and remove the mat. Remove the cap. Remove the two clips, five self-tapping screws and two screws that fasten the center console, and remove the center console. If necessary, place the shift lever in the Neutral position. 17. Remove the center panel: Remove the two bolts from the bottom of the center panel. Reach through the bottom opening, and push out on center panel bracket to release the nine retaining clips. Unplug the five vehicle connectors and the antenna lead, then remove the center panel. CONSOLE S (2) SELF- TAPPING MAT CONSOLE LID PANEL S (5) ANTENNA LEAD S (9) Push BOLT PANEL (M/T Model) SHIFT KNOB PLASTIC SECTION BOOT SHIFT LEVER Place in the Neutral position. Installing the Changer 18. Carefully unpack the changer. Remove the three shipping clips, and discard the shipping cover. Save the shipping clips for your customer in the event the unit needs to be serviced. 19. Install an adhesive seal (included in the Changer) over each of the three shipping clip holes. 20. Visually check the position of the spring adjusting pins on both sides of the changer. If both of the spring adjusting pins are not in the horizontal (H) position, move the pins to the horizontal position with a small flat-tip screwdriver. COVER PLATE (furnished with Changer Kit) SPRING ADJUST PIN 23. Slide the two clip nuts onto the changer brackets and parcel shelf through the holes in the parcel shelf and align their holes as shown. Install the two washer-bolts and tighten them securely. CHANGER NUT BR CH BR SPRING ADJUST PIN (H: HORIZONTAL) COVER PLATE (furnished with Changer Kit) COVER PLATE NUT CHANGER NUT WASHER- BOLT NUT NUT (V: VERTICAL) 21. Remove the adhesive backings from the L and R locking covers, and attach them to the side of the changer. Align the two diagonally opposite holes with the H and V positions. 22. Slide a clip nut onto the rear parcel shelf through the hole in the parcel shelf and align their holes as shown. Install the washer-bolt and tighten it securely. WASHER- BOLT CHANGER 24. Position the side brackets on the changer, and install the four washer-screws supplied with the Changer Attachment. Note the direction of the side brackets. The extra hole in each of the brackets should face the front of the changer. Tighten the washer-screws securely. 25. Position the changer on the changer bracket, and install a cap nut on the end of each stud extending from the changer. 27. Secure the connector and bus cable to the changer bracket with three wire ties in the areas shown. CHANGER RIGHT SIDE CHANGER LEFT SIDE CHANGER WIRE TIE CAP NUT 28. Inside the trunk, route the other end of the bus cable into the passenger s compartment through the hole in the panel. Routing the Bus Cable 26. 29. Remove the clip, and turn over the carpet as shown. Continue routing the bus cable. 32. Pull the vehicle 20-pin connector (blue) and bus cable connector out through the dash opening; then secure them to the vehicle harness with the wire tie in the area shown. CARPET HARNESS 20-PIN (Blue) Route under the carpet. HARNESS WIRE TIE Pull the cable out as far as the vehicle 20-pin connector harness (blue). 30 Route the bus cable forward under the parking brake lever base and to the right front console frame along the vehicle harness. 31. Route the bus cable connector through the clearance between the right front console frame and the dashboard and out through the dash opening. DASH OPENING 33. Secure the bus cable to the vehicle harness with six wire ties in the areas shown. DASH OPENING WIRE TIE Route under the parking brake lever base. 34. Secure the bus cable to the vehicle harness with eight wire ties in the areas shown. WIRE TIE 36. Plug the bus cable connector, vehicle 20-pin connector (blue), and antenna lead into the rear of the audio unit. When Radio and Pocket Are Installed: RADIO ANTENNA LEAD WIRE TIE WIRE TIE 20-PIN (BLUE) POCKET HARNESS When Radio and Cassette Player Are Installed: 35. Bundle up the excess cable, and secure it to the vehicle harness with two wire ties. WIRE TIE Bundle up the excess cable. 37. Connect the four vehicle connectors to the center panel, and reinstall the center panel. PANEL 20-PIN (BLUE) BOLT (reused) S (4) ANTENNA LEAD 38. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 39. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 40. Reset the clock and the radio station presets. 41. Check the operation of the changer as described in the Owner s Manual supplied. 42. Reinstall all removed parts. Be sure that all retaining clips and tabs are securely fastened. 43. Put the Changer Owner s Manual and the shipping clips (removed in step 18) in the glove box for your customer. 44. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure. Make sure all electrical items are turned off. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed and with all electrical items off. NOTE: If the radiator fan comes on during this step, the time when it is operating must not be included in the 5 minutes. NOTE: Whenever the battery is disconnected, the driver s window AUTO function is disabled. 45. Start the engine. Push down on the driver s window switch until the window is fully open. 46. Pull up on the driver s window switch to close the window completely, then hold the switch for 2 seconds or more. 47.
