Congratulations Congratulations on your purchase of the Lionel Train Orders Building! Triggered by the 153C Contactor (included) or a 153IR Controller, or various types of Insulated Track Sections (all available separately), this accessory features a figure that emerges from the illuminated building to pass a message up to the train crew. The operating roof-top signal lets the crew know that they need to pick-up their orders. The exterior is illuminated by an industrial lamppost. Installing the accessory and the 153C Contactor Place the accessory along any straight section of track on your layout. Be sure that all of your trains clear the accessory. If you choose to trigger the accessory using the 153C Contactor, install the Contactor approximately 14 inches from the accessory in the direction of the train s approach. It is important that the train reaches the 153C Contactor before the accessory. To install the Contactor, be sure that the track is not secured to your layout on both sides of the Contactor. The track must be able to flex under the weight of your train. Slide the Contactor beneath a track tie so that the tie rests on the Contactor s top pressure plate. Refer to Figure 1. Note! Keep in mind that the train will only trigger the accessory when it reaches the Contactor. Use an additional 153C Contactor on the opposite side of the accessory to trigger the accessory from the opposite direction. Wiring the accessory for operation with the 153C Contactor Your Train Orders Building accessory operates best at 12 to 18 volts (AC). Power the accessory through track power or using a separate accessory transformer. Refer to Figure 2. To make the proper connections, the ends of the wires should be stripped back 1/4 to 1/2. Caution! Only an adult should perform this task. Always use care when stripping wires. 1. Attach one wire to the POWER terminal on the underside of the accessory and connect it to the transformer s Common/Ground/U terminal or to the #2 terminal on a Lockon. To make the accessory connections, press down on the upper portion of the spring clip to expose a loop, insert the end of the wire into the loop, then release pressure. 2. Attach another wire to the remaining accessory POWER terminal and connect it to the transformer s Power/A terminal or to the #1 terminal on a Lockon. 3. Attach another wire to the accessory SWITCH terminal and connect it to the #2 terminal on the 153C Contactor. 4. Finally, attach another wire to the #3 terminal on the 153C Contactor and connect it to the remaining accessory SWITCH terminal. COMMON/GROUND/U OR POWER SUPPLY OR Lionel Lockon Figure 2. Installing the lamppost As illustrated in Figure 3, plug the two prongs on the bottom of the lamppost into the socket on the platform. Be sure that the prongs line up with the holes. The lamppost may be installed in either direction. Platform socket Figure 3. Lamppost installation Adjusting the 153C Contactor Adjust the 153C Contactor before you operate different locomotives and rolling stock with the accessory. Keep in mind that the Contactor is sensitive to the weight of the train. 1. Power up the accessory. 2. Position your train about two feet before the Contactor. 3. Turn the adjustment nut on the Contactor up or down until the accessory is triggered. Refer to Figure 1 on page 3 for the location of the adjustment nut. When properly adjusted, a light pressure on the track will activate the accessory. 5

ACC PWR GND ACC NO Wiring the accessory with the 153IR Controller You may choose to connect this accessory with a 153IR Controller (available separately, 6-14111) and a 12-volt DC Relay (SPDT, 1A Contact rating) with a Diode (IN4001, IN4002, IN4003, or IN4004) available from your electronics supply store. The trains trigger the 153IR Controller by reflecting an infrared beam, so it is not necessary to install a pressuresensitive Contactor under the track. Refer to the 153IR Controller Owner s Manual for additional information. The 153IR Controller connections are illustrated in Figure 4. Wiring the accessory using an insulated track section Y ou may choose to connect this accessory with an Insulated Track Section (available separately, 6-12841 for O-27 track, 6-12840 for O-gauge track, or 6-12029 Accessory Activator Pack for FasTrack) and a 12-volt DC Relay (SPDT, 1A Contact rating) with a Diode (IN4001, IN4002, IN4003, or IN4004) available from your electronics supply store. The train triggers the accessory when it crosses into the insulated zone. The insulated track connections are illustrated in Figure 5. Replacing the interior lamp The interior of your accessory is illuminated by one lamp, Lionel part no. 610-4143-300. During the course of normal operations, this lamp may require replacement. Replacement lamps are available at your authorized Lionel Service Center or from Lionel Service in Chesterfield, MI. Refer to Figure 6. 1. Lift off the roof. 2. Unscrew and replace the expired lamp. 3. Replace the roof. Roof lamp Stove lamp Figure 6.
