Mandatry Maintenance Vehicle Owner In accrdance with Québec s Highway Safety Cde, wners f vehicles with grss vehicle weight rating (GVWR)* f 4,500 kg r mre (except tl vehicles) and f tw trucks and minibuses f any GVWR must submit these vehicles t prescribed maintenance. Mandatry maintenance is cmprised f the planned activities (inspectin, adjustments, parts replacement) aimed at maintaining a mtr vehicle in gd wrking rder in accrdance with the Regulatin respecting safety standards fr rad vehicles. Requirements regarding the frequency f maintenance, the mechanical cmpnents t be inspected and recrd keeping are specified belw. Frequency f maintenance Maintenance must be carried ut at least nce every six mnths. Pursuant t the Regulatin, peridic mechanical inspectin des nt take the place f mandatry maintenance (carried ut by an authrized agent f the Sciété de l assurance autmbile du Québec (SAAQ)). Mechanical cmpnents cvered Maintenance must cver all mechanical cmpnents whse pr peratin, cnditin r adjustment culd make the vehicle less safe. The inspected cmpnents are specified n the mechanical inspectin certificate and n maintenance sheet samples. Recrd keeping Fr each rad vehicle under their respnsibility, wners must keep a maintenance recrd cntaining the fllwing infrmatin and dcuments: 1. the identificatin number f the vehicle and the licence plate number, the make, year, wner s name and, where applicable, the name f the lng-term lessr; 2. the schedule f upcming inspectins accrding t the maintenance schedule used by the carrier and the purpse f each servicing; 3. the maintenance sheet (described belw) fr each servicing; 4. prf that the repairs have been made fllwing the servicing; 5. the date n which the strage begins and ends, where applicable; and 6. fr vehicles with a GVWR f 7,258 kg r mre, a brake lining r camshaft rtatin measurement recrd if the measurements are nt indicated n the maintenance sheet. * GVWR: net mass + maximum lad capacity

The maintenance sheet must cntain the fllwing infrmatin: 1. the vehicle identificatin number, licence plate number r unit number appearing n the registratin certificate; 2. the number f kilmetres indicated by the dmeter; 3. the date f the servicing; 4. a list f all the cmpnents t be checked at each servicing accrding t the rad vehicle categry in accrdance with the Regulatin, indicating beside each cmpnent whether it cmplies r nt; 5. the required repairs, if any; 6. fr vehicles with a GVWR f 7,258 kg r mre, the brake lining r camshaft rtatin measurements if the measurements are nt prvided in anther dcument; and 7. the signature f the persn wh serviced the vehicle. Maintenance sheets are designed t prvide an verall picture f the vehicle s as t determine any repairs required t maintain the vehicle in gd wrking rder. It is nrmal t find cmpnents that d nt with the regulatry standards. Hwever, the maintenance recrd must cntain prf that these cmpnents have been repaired. Maintenance sheets prepared by the SAAQ Maintenance sheets are an indispensable tl fr any maintenance prgram. They ensure full, rigrus inspectin during each maintenance peratin. Sample maintenance sheets are prvided n the fllwing pages. These sheets are mdels nly (nt mandatry) and can be used as is r mdified accrding t yur needs, as lng as the abve requirements are cvered. The prpsed sheets (truck, bus, trailer and vehicle with a GVWR f less than 4,500 kg) are based n a rutine inspectin t enable f service the vehicle with the sheet in hand and ensure that any necessary repairs are dne. The mechanical cmpnents are presented accrding t the nrmal sequence in which they are inspected, namely: inside the vehicle, arund the vehicle, under the hd, underneath the vehicle, the brakes and any ther inspectin deemed necessary. Depending n the vehicle s features, yu may have t change the rder f inspectin f ne r mre cmpnents. Fr example, in certain vehicles, a cmpnent that appears in the sectin arund the vehicle may be mre accessible underneath the vehicle r under the hd. Hence the imprtance f adapting the sheets t yur particular needs. We have als included a sample Brake and Tire Measurement Recrd. Brake measurement is mandatry; measurement is ptinal. Recrding brake and measurements separately frm the maintenance sheet enables yu t mnitr wear frm ne inspectin t the next. Abnrmal wear can then be detected befre a breakdwn ccurs. C-5065-A (11-03)
