ALPINE LED EXIT SIGN These instructions contain important information regarding safety. They should be read carefully and should be retained for future reference. The company will not accept any responsibility for any injury, damage or loss which may arise due to incorrect installation, operation or maintenance due to non-adherence to these instructions. Our products are designed to comply with the recommendations of BS EN 60598.1:2008 code of practice for emergency lighting of premises and be installed by competent person in accordance with the relevant wiring regulations Before installation of any type of emergency lighting always seek the advice of the local fire prevention officer (or equivalent authority) Luminaire information Model: E/AL/M3/LED Rated voltage: 230V 50Hz ± 10% Lamp type: 27 x 0.07W LED (Total 1.9W) Product dimensions: 210mm (H) x 450mm (W) x 55mm (D) Battery type : 3.6V 1500mAh Nickel Cadmium Recharge time : 24 hours Initial Charge : 36 hours Emergency Operation Time 3 hours (minimum) For Maintained Operation - For lamp always on, link Ls (Switched Live) to terminal L (Permanent Live). If Ls not connected, fitting works as non maintained. Maintained All self-contained emergency lighting luminaires require a continuous (un-switched) 230V - 240V single phase 50 Hz supply to keep the in built batteries charged. Please note:- The LED s contained in this fitting are not designed to be replaced. This luminaire is suitable only for indoor use in dry locations. If operation is required in damp, dusty or corrosive locations care must be taken to select a suitable fitting for the location INSTRUCTION MANUAL - Issue 1-02/2014 2

INSTALLATION Installation should only be carried out in accordance with the current edition of the "Regulations for Electrical Installations" EN61547 and with the requirements of BS EN 60598-1 Do not high voltage insulation test the luminaire as this may damage the control gear Before starting the installation ensure that the electricity supply is isolated and that it can not be re-energised accidentally. 1. Remove the front diffuser by pressing where indicated. 2. There are 2 cable entry holes on this fitting on either side of the body. Knock out the intended cable entry hole suitable for your installation 3. Hold the luminaire in the required location and use fixing holes as a template Mark the fixing holes on the wall (please note when drilling fixing holes, be careful not to damage concealed wire or pipes.) 4. Fix luminaire to the wall using suitable screws and fixings (not supplied) 5. Connect the mains supply wiring as shown below. Switched Live (Brown) Unswitched Live (Brown) Earth (Green/Yellow) Neutral (Blue/Grey) Ensure that all connections are firmly secured and there are no loose strands omitted 1. When all connections have been made reposition the front cover ensuring it is firmly attached. 2. Restore the supply and check that the green LED indicator illuminates to confirm the batteries are charging. 3. Allow a short period for part charging of the batteries and then isolate the mains supply to the fitting in order to check the correct operation of the fitting in emergency mode. After 36 hours on continuous charge (and only at a safe time) a mains failure should be simulated to ensure that the fitting illuminates for is rated emergency duration. The luminaire will have 1 hour backup after 14 hour charge and will be fully charged after 24 hours Once the luminaire no longer meets its rated emergency operation the batteries must be replaced, regardless all batteries must be replaced after a maximum of 4 years in service Maintenance Repairs should only be carried out by suitably qualified person. Only replacement components authorised by the company should be used. Disposal of replaced components should be in accordance with component manufactures instructions. Special care should be taken if its the required to open the fitting that which is necessary for lamping as the fitting may still be live even though the mains supply has been isolated. In these circumstances immediately disconnect the battery supply. Servicing, cleaning etc should only be carried out after the fitting has been made electrically safe. Cleaning of luminaires should be carried out at regular intervals not only to ensure good optical performance but also ensure that dirt does not accumulate to such an extent as to impair the electrical or thermal safety of the fitting Warranty In place of any other conditions or warranties, whether imposed by statue or implied by common law we undertake as follows 1. We will repair or if necessary replace free of charge any emergency luminaires manufactured by us that is found by us to be defective and brought to our attention within 12 months of supply. This warranty is only valid if the luminaire has remained unmodified and installed and used as per this instruction leaflet and is returned to us, complete with test record, carriage paid and packaged appropriately. 2. We shall not be liable for any consequential loss or damaged caused directly of indirectly by any defect or otherwise. All details in this leaflet are given for guidance only and do not constitute a contract. We reserve the right to alter the specifications of products without notice. INSTRUCTION MANUAL - Issue 1-02/2014 3

TESTING Recommended Routine Test Procedure The following test is designed to ensure the continued protection of your premises and occupants. Because of the possibility of a failure of the normal lighting supply occurring shortly after a period of testing, all tests should, whenever possible, be undertaken at times of least risk, e.g. during daylight hours. Once A Day Visual inspection of battery charge led. Once A Month Each unit should be energised from it s battery for adequate time to ensure, by simulation of a failure of the normal lighting supply, the emergency mode is functioning correctly. Once Each Year All units should be placed into emergency mode and checked that the duration provided by the battery meets the specified time period. Manual Operation TEST BUTTON GREEN LED STATUS Press for about 1 second OFF Emergency mode for 1 second Press for about 3 seconds Blinking Functional test for 30 seconds Press for about 5 seconds Flashing Duration test Press again for about 5 seconds Functional Interruption of duration test Meaning of the indicator LED Green Red The status display can only be cleared after the fault has been rectified, mains voltage has been reapplied and a function test has been run. Changing The Rechargeable Battery If the emergency duration is less than 180 min., the rechargeable battery has to be replaced. Use only original batteries from the manufacturer.
