RANGE TRANSMISSION AND PTO GENERAL INFORMATION DIAGNOSING CLUTCH MALFUNCTIONS The transmission and PTO clutch assemblies consist of two spring-loaded dry-disk clutches mounted in tandem. The front clutch supplies engine power to the transmission and the rear clutch supplies engine power to the PTO. The clutches operate independently of each other. The transmission clutch is manually controlled by a pedal, and the PTO clutch is controlled by oil pressure from the main hydraulic system. Clutch Slips Worn, glazed or burned clutch facings. Oil or grease on clutch facings. Insufficient or zero transmission clutch pedal free travel. Release levers out of adjustment. Operator riding clutch pedal. Insufficient pressure on PTO clutch. Clutch facing replaced with wrong material.

50 Power Train 30-16 Power Front-Wheel Drive Tractors - 4320 TM-1029 (Dec-74) Pivot Pin Assembly ASSEMBLY Place wheel motor housing into place in axle knee. Position two thrust washers with tabs on top and bottom between axle knee and motor housing (Fig. 23). Outer thrust washer tab should be away from center of wheel and inner should be toward center of wheel. Install pivot pin into axle knee with holes in pivot pin lining up with holes in axle knee. Install cap with pressure oil tube into pivot pin and tighten cap screws to 35 ft-ibs torque. Install bleed oil tube into cap and tighten securely. Next, bolt two pieces of strap iron, approximately six inches long, to the front of the motor housing (Fig. 24). Place a washer under each end of the straps, being sure the washers contact only the edge of the bearing and not the motor housing. Tighten both strap bolts only until the washers are lightly held in place. Move the weight to the 2 o'clock position and release. Tighten one cap screw slightly. Move the weight back to the 2 o'clock position and release. Tighten cap screw slightly again. Repeat these two steps until the weight fails to turn the wheel hub. Mark the cap screw and back off 112 turn. Repeat the same steps for the other cap screw. When the weight is held in a fixed position by the second cap screw, retighten the marked (first) cap screw the same amount it was backed off. Fig. 24-Measuring for Shim Requirement Adjust bearings before installing seal. Install inner bearing, front wheel hub and outer bearing. Bolt a three-pound weight at about 2 o'clock on the outside edge of the front wheel hub (Fig. 24). Use one of the cap screw holes to attach the weight. The weight will cause the hub to rotate until the weight comes to rest at the 6 o'clock position. Fig. 25-Positioning Straightedge Now lay a straightedge across the motor housing and outside bearing and use a feeler gauge to measure between the straightedge and outside bearing to determine the preload or end play (Fig. 25).
