Important Safety Instructions Please read the installation and operating instructions in this manual carefully before using your power inverter. Reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, explosion, or injury: Do not use with positive grounding electrical systems, the negative input terminal should be used as grounding terminal Do not connect to AC distribution wiring. The inverter is not grid interactive Reverse polarity will result in a blown fuse and may cause permanent damage to the inverter. Turn off inverter before connecting appliance Keep away from children, this is not a toy. Do not block air vents of the inverter Do not operate inverter if it is wet Install inverter in a well-ventilated area Power connections must remain tight to avoid excessive heating from a loose connection This inverter will not operate high wattage appliances that exceed the output power limit or the surge power limit 2

1 General Information Thank you for choosing HQST for your Modified Sine Wave Inverter purchase. This inverter is capable of converting DC power to AC power. DC power is the power produced by a battery or other power source, while AC power is the standard power needed to run electrical equipment in a household. Modified Sine Wave inverters run most appliances that can accept some voltage fluctuation. Features: Compact size with sleek aluminum design High efficiency with low idle current draw Built-in USB for charging mobile phones, tablets, speakers, etc. Electronic protections such as short circuit, overload, high temperature, and more LED indicator lights and alarm for inverter status Mounting capable Remote controller 2 Product Layout 2.1 500W AC Side Indicator LEDs AC Receptacles USB Plug On/Off Switch Ventilation Holes 4

2.4 1000W DC Side DC Plug Fan Exhaust 3 Installation For best operating results, the inverter should be installed in a flat surface and meet the following requirements: 1. DRY Keep away from water and do not allow any water to drip or splash onto the inverter 2. COOL Maintain ambient temperature conditions to be between 50 F and 80 F 3. VENTILATED Allow at least one inch of clearance around the power inverter for air flow. Do not place anything on or over the inverter during operation. Make sure that the air is allowed to circulate freely around the unit. 4. SAFETY Do not use the power inverter near flammable materials or in any location which may accumulate flammable fumes or gases, such as the battery compartment of your car, truck, RV, or boat. 3.1 Connecting to DC Power Source This inverter is only rated for 12V battery banks. Failure to meet this requirement will result in irreversible and permanent damage to your inverter. Use the provided inverter cables in order to connect your inverter to a 12V battery bank. Simply uncap the positive and negative terminals on the inverter and place the inverter cable at their appropiate terminals. The red terminal indicates 6

positive (+) and the black terminal indicates negative (-). Be wary of reverse polarity connections. If done correctly. An alarm may sound momentarily when connecting to the power source. This is normal and does not indicate a problem. 12V + - 3.2 Connecting AC Appliances Simply connect your electrical appliance onto the AC receptacles of the inverter and flip the switch to the ON position to use your electrical appliance. Most electrical tools, appliances and audio/video equipment have a label indicating power consumption in amps or watts. Add up the power consumption in those items you will be using simultaneously, keeping total below max power of inverter. If the power consumption is rated in amps, multiply by the AC volts (110 V) to determine the wattage. For example, a television rated at 0.9 amps will use 99 watts, well within the limits of what the power inverter can handle on a continuous basis. Resistive loads, such as incandescent lights, are the easiest for the inverter to drive, though larger resistive loads, such as electric stoves or heaters, require more power than the power inverter can deliver continuously. Inductive loads, such as TV s and stereos (any device with a coil or a transformer in it) require more current to operate than a resistive load of the same power rating. Induction motors (motors without brushes), as well as some televisions, may require 2 to 6 times their power rating to start up. This condition may require repeated ON/OFF, ON/OFF several times switching of the power switch on your power inverter in order to get them started. The most demanding are those that start under load, i.e. compressors and pumps. Since motor and television characteristics vary widely, only experimentation will determine if a specific load can be started and how long it can be run. The following represents some typical appliances that can be safely run on a modified sine wave inverter 7

Recommended Not Recommended Lights TV Microwave Oven Heat devices hair dryers, coffee makers, irons, heaters, toasters Power Tools* *Some power tools might require higher amperage draw and exceed inverter specifications 3.3 Connecting USB Devices The USB terminal is always active as long as the inverter is connected to a battery bank. Simply plug your USB in order to start charging or using your USB device. The terminal is rated for 5V 2.4A max. 3.4 Using your Remote Control In order to take advantage of the remote control feature, the modified sine wave inverter has to be in the OFF position. NOTE: The remote-control feature will NOT work if the inverter is in the ON position. 4 Protection Features The inverter is equipped with some protection features to protect the user the device. 8

Protection Feature Low Voltage Short Circuit High Temperature Over-load Indication RED LIGHT. An audible alarm is heard when the battery reaches 10.5 volts. The inverter then shuts down if the battery voltage drops to 10.0 volts Reversing cable poles will render a short circuit. After manually turning the power on and off, the inverter will resume functioning. RED LIGHT. When the internal heat sink reaches 140 F, the inverter will shut down. Once cooled, the inverter may be manually restarted and resume to normal operation RED LIGHT. The inverter will allow some over-load of the rating as long as there is a fuse installed. If the load is too high the inverter will automatically turn off. 5 Troubleshooting Problem Possible Causes Solutions Inverter does not operate Low Voltage Alarm on Continuously 1. Battery voltage below 10 volts 2. Environmental conditions may be too hot for the inverter 3. Reverse polarity connection 4. Device draws too much startup power 1. Insufficient power or large voltage drop 1. Turn the inverter power switch off then on, repeat as necessary until appliance turns on 2. Check for good ventilation, the inverter may need to cool down 3. Check connections 4. Reduce the load on the inverter 1. Check connections, clean the terminals, use a multi-meter to 9

Low Output Voltage Television Interference Buzz or Hum 1. Connections are loose 2. Inverter overloaded 3. Input voltage below 11.0 volts 1. Incompatible device connected 1. The appliance needs a smoother power supply check battery voltage 1. Check connections 2. Reduce continuous watts load 3. Keep input voltage above 11.0 volts 1. Move inverter away from antenna or use a shielded antenna 2. Make sure device does not use inductive loads 1. Make sure device is not inductive load 2. Use more basic devices through inverter 5.1 Interference Modified sine wave inverters are not suggested for use with acoustic equipment. The modified sine wave inverter uses a power signal that may distort the sound signal if it is not isolated. Interference can also be expected when using this inverter if installation is close to a TV or a radio. Placing the inverter further away from the TV may minimize interference. 5.2 Maintenance To keep the inverter functioning properly, the exterior should be cleaned periodically with a dry cloth to prevent an accumulation of dust and dirt. Other than this, there is virtually no heavy maintenance needed. 10
