INSTALLATION INSTALLATION SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT BY A QUALIFIED POOL PROFESSIONAL. PLEASE READ ALL THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING/OPERATING THE UNIT & LEAVE THE MANUAL ONSITE FOR OPERATORS USE. THE UNIT MUST NOT BE CONNECTED WITHOUT ADEQUATE EARTH CONNECTIONS AND A VOLTAGE OTHER THAN 230-250 V (Unless other voltage specified) 1. PRE-INSTALLATION: Before installing the unit in position on the wall or post, the length of the PVC tubing provided should be measured and taken into consideration. Please ensure that no other equipment or chemical drums (containing chlorine or acid) are kept directly below the Zodiac ph Easy, chemical fumes can corrode machine parts. When installed outdoors, make sure that the unit is in a weatherproof enclosure and is not accessible to children. To avoid loss of water from the system, close all stop valves before cutting any lines. 2. INSTALLING THE "T" PIECE: Install the "T" piece coupling with the sensor/probe into the "return line immediately after the filter. Cut an appropriate piece out of this line and glue the "T" piece in position, using a PVC adhesive. Install the "T" piece coupling with the injection fitting after all other equipment, e.g. Nature2, Saltwater Chlorinator, Ozonator and Heater. Cut an appropriate piece out of this line and glue the "T" piece in position, using a PVC adhesive. IMPORTANT: Zodiac pumps dose against a maximum pressure of 150-175 kpa (20-25 psi), avoid excessive pressure situations such as: 2a. In-floor cleaners (when using for pool applications) :The recommended position of the injection point & probe is on the suction line. 2b. Reducing bushing: If a reducing bushing or elbow is used (e.g. 40 ml in a 50 ml Pipe), install the injection point far away from the reducing bushing/elbow. As a precautionary measure, test the pressure with a pressure gauge just before installing the injection point. If space is a problem, install the injection point in the suction line. 3. CONNECTION OF THE PVC TUBING: The PVC tubing needs to be cut to the required lengths as follows: 1

INSTALLATION 3a. Drill a 10 mm hole in the cap of the chemical container. If using a 60L drum, the hole should be drilled in the shoulder. The container should not be airtight or the liquid will not flow through. 3b. Thread the PVC tube through the hole in the cap or shoulder and fit the nonreturn or check valve and the weight. Ensure that the non-return valve is fitted correctly (arrow indicates the direction of flow). Drop the weight, with the nonreturn valve into the bottom of the container. Measure the distance between the container and the Zodiac ph Easy, preferably in a straight line, and cut the PVC tube to length and push as far as possible onto the barb (black connector) protruding from the left side of the Zodiac ph Easy. Fix on the barb and the black clamp to prevent any air leaks. For acid, use the appropriate non return valve provided in the kit or it will not allow the acid to be drawn up. 3c. Measure and cut the remaining PVC tubing which goes between the machine and the injection point. Push one end of this tubing, as far as possible, onto the barb (black connector) protruding from the right side of the pump. Fix on the barb with the black clamp. The other end should be thread through the black injection point after it is screwed into the "T" piece. Push the PVC tubing through the injection point so that it protrudes approximately half way into the "T" piece. Do not push it further. Lock the tubing in place with the locking nut and the rubber grommet of the injection point. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Tools to be preferably avoided. 2

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT: Ensure that the PVC tubing exiting from the acid drum is connected to the left hand side of the squeeze (pump) tube, as the chemical flow is clock-wise. TIP: Soaking the ends of the PVC tubing in hot water or gentle heating with a lighter makes it easier to push onto the barb. When installing chemical containers (especially acid), in filter enclosures, which have no ventilation, it is recommended that the hole in the cap of the container is cut to fit tightly around the tubing, so that fumes from the acid or chlorine will not corrode the equipment. It will be necessary to drill a second hole in the cap fitted tightly with a length of tubing which should then be vented outside the filter enclosure. This procedure is recommended only where the filter enclosure has no ventilation and is to protect the equipment. NOTE: * ACID SHOULD ALWAYS BE DILUTED APPROXIMATELY 1:2 * NEVER MIX CHEMICALS (For swimming pool/spa applications: Plug the Zodiac ph Easy into the power source and the filter pump power lead into the Zodiac ph Easy plug, so that both the filter pump and the Zodiac ph Easy operate as one. Switch on the power supply.) 4. FITTING THE PROBE/SENSOR: Plug the BNC connector of the probe into the probe socket on the face of the Zodiac ph Easy machine with a push and twist action. After removing the protective cap on the tip of the probe/sensor, screw the sensor into the hole provided in the "T" piece. IMPORTANT: PROBE SHOULD BE IN A HORIZONTAL POSITION. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE PROBE, NO TOOLS REQUIRED. IMPORTANT FOR SWIMMING POOL APPLICATIONS: THE ZODIAC ph EASY PROBE/SENSOR SHOULD BE INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FILTER AND PRIOR TO THE NATURE2, OZONATOR OR SALTWATER CHLORINATOR.THE ph INJECTOR IS TO BE POSITIONED AFTER THE FILTER, HEATER OR SALTWATER CHLORINATOR. IF SPACE DOES NOT PERMIT, IT IS ADVISABLE TO INSTALL THE PROBE/SENSOR IN THE SUCTION LINE FAR AWAY FROM SUCH EQUIPMENT.THIS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO AVOID ANY POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE,WHICH MAY CAUSE THE PROBE TO MISREAD AND THE MACHINE TO MALFUNCTION. 3

OPERATIONS 1. Operating Modes The controller runs in three operating modes: AUTO SETPOINT MANUAL AUTO: The controller normally runs in Auto mode and this is the default mode when the controller starts up. In Auto mode the controller is continually testing the ph of the water and automatically operating the dosing pump as required to maintain the ideal chemical balance (as per the set points). SETPOINT: In this Mode the setpoint for the ph can be altered as required. Salt Concentration 4,000 ppm ph 7.2 to 7.8 Chlorine Stabiliser (Cyanuric Acid) Total Alkalinity Total Hardness Free chlorine 40 to 80 ppm Up to 100ppm in tropical climates 80 to 150 ppm less than 400 ppm 1 to 4 ppm Where used in conjunction with Nature 2 adjust chlorine output downwards to achieve 0.5-1 ppm chlorine 4

OPERATIONS MANUAL: The dosing pump can be manually started to run for as long as required. Manual dosing is intended as an additional boost to the normal automatic control. 1.1 Auto Mode Auto mode is the default operating mode that the controller starts up in. In Auto mode the display shows the currently measured ph.the display looks like: e.g. 7:40 Only the MODE and ENTER/CAL keys are active in Auto mode. The UP, DOWN and CLEAR keys have no effect in this mode. The MODE key is used to change operating modes. The ENTER/CAL key is used to enter data and do a probe adjustment calibration. 1.2 Changing Setpoints When the controller is in Auto Mode, press the MODE key. The green light shifts from Auto to Setpoint and the display shows the current setpoint. The display will be similar to: e.g. 7:50 To change the setpoint, use the UP and DOWN keys to increase or decrease the displayed number. To update the revised setpoint in the controller memory with the displayed number, press ENTER, after the adjustment is made. The data is stored as indicated by SAVE appearing on the screen, machine then returns to Auto mode. Press MODE at any stage to advance to the next operating mode. Note:When CLEAR or MODE is pressed, any unsaved data is lost, ie: if the setpoint on the display is adjusted then ENTER must be pressed to update the setpoint in memory before pressing CLEAR or MODE. 1.3 Using the Manual Override Function: The Zodiac ph Easy has a special feature to allow the automatic function to be overridden in case you want to dose the chemical for a given period of time. When the controller is in Auto Mode, press the MODE key until the desired Manual Dose mode (green light) is displayed. The display will be similar to: e.g. 3:00 The number displayed in this case is the manual dose time in minutes and seconds for the dosing pump, which can be adjusted using the UP and DOWN key to increase or decrease the time. To start a manual dose, press ENTER. The dosing pump will then run for the time that was indicated on the display. The pump indication light (yellow) will also come on and the display will count down the time remaining for the manual dose ie 2 min. 58 sec:, etc. e.g. 2:58 5

OPERATIONS If the pump is allowed to run for the full time, the controller will automatically revert to Auto mode. The manual dose can be stopped at any time by pressing CLEAR. Zodiac ph Easy then reverts to Auto mode. At the end of manual dosing, the pump may continue to run because when the controller reverts to Auto mode, the control program may decide to run the pump. 2. Probe Adjustment (Calibration) The ph probe/sensor has been factory calibrated. However it is a good practice to check the adjustment for the ph probe periodically (say 6-12 months or earlier if required) 2.1 ph Probe adjustment (Calibration) When the controller is in Auto mode, unscrew the ph probe from the pipe line (disconnect the filter pump and reconnect after callibration, to avoid water spill) and place it in a buffer solution of known ph preferably as close to 7.00 as possible (e.g. ph 6.88). Wait until the display becomes steady. Check the reading, if it is similar or close (plus + or - 0.20 app.) to the ph of the buffer solution, no adjustment is required. If it varies press ENTER/CAL to run the menu.the display will change to: CAL When the display shows "CAL", press ENTER to begin the adjustment. The display will then show a figure which is the raw data. Adjust the displayed value using the UP/DOWN keys until it displays what the actual ph of the solution is, eg: 6.88 Then press ENTER to accept this value and end the calibration function. Wait until the screen shows SAVE to indicate that the calibration has been saved. To exit without saving the calibration, press CLEAR at any time. After calibration the display returns to: CAL To return to Auto mode, press CLEAR at any stage in the menu. Note: Adjustment (calibration) may vary by +/- 0.03 for ph this is acceptable. (If you enter the calibration mode function again, after completing the re-calibration and press ENTER, raw data appears on the screen and not the re-calibrated figure, this is normal). 6

MAINTENANCE SAFETY NOTICE - IMPORTANT: READ THIS FIRST Acid can cause serious injury and must be handled with care. ALWAYS PROTECT YOUR SKIN ESPECIALLY YOUR EYES WHEN HANDLING ACID BY WEARING RUBBER GLOVES AND GOGGLES. MAINTENANCE 1. Lubricate the squeeze (pump) tube every 6 months. More often in commercial applications. Use only the recommended lubricant available from your local pool shop, otherwise damage to the tube is possible. 2. Depending upon usage, the squeeze tube may need replacement after 1-2 years on a domestic installation, after 6-12 months on a commercial installation. Before replacing the tube make sure that any stop valves in the filter system are closed. Otherwise water loss may occur. (To replace the tubes black coloured for acid remove the retaining screws or wing nuts and the plastic face plate and pull the tube free. Disconnect the squeeze tube from the barbs and reconnect the new squeeze tube after lubricating the same, making sure that the new tube is correctly connected to the PVC tubing as per instructions. Reposition the squeeze tube in the unit as before, replace the plastic face plate and retaining screws.) PLEASE DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE RETAINING SCREWS OR WING NUTS. 3. The Injection Point (black screw nut) through which the chemical discharges into the pipeline should be checked periodically for any build up of solid matter in the end of the PVC tubing and kept clean. This may otherwise cause blockage and not allow the chemical to pass through the line, can alter the ph levels and may cause the squeeze tube to come off the barbs. As the ph sensor tip is made of glass, please take care, for even a hair line crack can cause the sensor to read incorrectly causing malfunction. SWIMMING POOL APPLICATIONS: USE OF A SUN SCREEN CHEMICAL (CYANURIC ACID) FOR OUTDOOR POOLS IS RECOMMENDED. CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL POOL SHOP AND USE THE CORRECT DOSAGE. MAKE SURE YOUR POOL WATER IS WELL BALANCED. 7

TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE TROUBLE ph reading incorrect Pump does not operate as it should The Roller (H) Block on the inside of the unit does not dispense chemicals Water returns to the chemical drum Numbers not appearing on display panel no lights or power POSSIBLE CAUSE/SOLUTION * Check calibration of the sensor in the buffer solution * Clean the sensor in diluted acid * Check water balance & correct if required. * Is Setpoint level altered? * Check if fuse blown * No chemicals in the tank * Injection point blocked * Air leak at the connection where the tube from the drum connects onto the pump tube * Chemical container airtight * Roller or H block broken * Pump head cracked * Squeeze tube needs replacement * Check last 3 points above.
