Maine Antique Tractor Club Antique Lawn Tractor Pulling Rules Amended Mar 2018 1. Lawn and Garden tractors are defined as tractors having electric or gas engines with one or two cylinders, air-cooled, four-cycle engine. No motorcycle or automobile engines are allowed. Two wheel drive only. Tractors shall have no more than one engine whose RPM s cannot exceed 3700. Gas engines will be L&G tractor engines (only) that were used by the manufacturer in their tractors within the tractor s years of manufacture. Example: if an 8, 10, 12, or 16 hp engines were used, then an increase or lower hp engine can be used. (The tractor will need to pull in the correct class for weight and horse power). If the manufacturer used more than one brand of engine for their models in that same year; than a different brand engine that was available can be used. OEM replacement engines will be allowed. 2. Antique Lawn and Garden tractors must be thirty years or older. 3. Tractors shall have no attachments; this includes the removal of mower deck. 4. Tractors must have rubber tires; no dual wheels, tire studs, chains, no cut tires, or paddle tires allowed. Turf or AG tires ONLY! No ATV tires allowed. Rims cannot exceed 12 inches. Maximum tire size cannot exceed 12 inches wide or 26 inches in height (with the exception of classes 5a,5b,5c and 6b). Tractor must have a hood and a grill. All moving parts will be covered with an approved shield. 5. Tractors must have sturdy, safe, secure fenders. Tractor must have a secure seat. Seat cannot extend behind rear tires. 6. Tractor must be able to pull to the track without assistance. 7. A certified fire extinguisher will be mounted on the pulling sled in such a manner as to be easily available to the sled operator or ground personnel. 8. Lawn/Garden tractors limited to manufactured wheel weights, not to exceed 8 inches out from sidewall of tire, and attached weight (be it welded or bolted) to the immediate front of the tractor. No extended weights will be allowed. Allow the use of suitcase weights to the rear and front of the tractor only. No weights will be allowed to extend past the immediate front or rear of the tractor. All weights will be secured whether wheel or hanging and will be factory or factory appearing (No Barbell). Wheel weights are not to be used as hanging weights. If a weight falls

off, the tractor is disqualified. The pulling committee will have the final on any weights. 9. Draw bars not to exceed 12 inches high. All draw bar supports must be mechanically safe. 10. All pullers in a Garden Tractor Pulling event must produce a current MATC and EDGE&TA membership card. 11. Drivers 17 years of age and younger must wear a helmet. All Drivers will wear long pants, shoes, and shirt. Sandals are not permitted. 12. Drivers 14 years old and younger must have parental supervision. They must demonstrate their ability to control and operate the tractor. The tractor must be operated without any outside assistance upon their entry to the ring until the completion of their pull. Drivers ages 5 through 11 must demonstrate proof of having taken and passing the MATC Garden Tractor Safety Course. 13. When weight or gasoline is added to a tractor, it must be reweighed before pulling. 14. Kill switches with at least 6-foot leads must be installed on all tractors for drivers 11 years and younger. 15. Two tractors or more to make a class. 16. If shims are used to accomplish the 12 inch height on the draw bar, measurements will be taken at the highest pulling point. 17. Tractors must use a pinned clevis or a threaded shackle. Or have a hitch with a minimum opening of 1.5 inches. 18. All tractors must pull with original tin work. N o straight exhaust is allowed. 19. Tractors must be weighed with the operator that is to pull that tractor. If the tractor is to be pulled again with another operator, it must be weighed again with the second operator. 1% overage on weigh-ins allowed for all classes (not a pound over the 1%!!!!!) 20. Only two members may pull a single tractor and may pull in two classes per member. This limits the tractor to four hitches with two members. This rule does not apply to class 1. 21. A member may pull as many tractors as desired.

22. It is the discretion of the committee members present to weigh the tractors before the pull or just weigh the first three places at the end of the class. Whoever is unsure of their weight may still weigh at the beginning of the pull. 23. When hooking or unhooking from the drag, the driver must ensure that the tractor is in neutral, he/she will raise both hands in the air. If the driver backs into the drag he/she will be disqualified. Operator must remain seated while pulling. 24. Tractors shall be operated in a safe manner; any operation of a tractor deemed unsafe by members on the pulling floor is grounds for disqualification. 25. Before hitching or after unhitching from the sled, driver shall operate his/her vehicle at such speed to be in control of vehicle at all times. Any excessive speed or recklessness will be grounds for disqualification. 26. Drivers, pit crews, and pulling floor workers may not consume alcohol before or during the event. 27. The flagman rules the pulling floor. 28. Tractors will be equipped with wheelie bars or skid plates. No spring loaded anti-tip-over devices will be allowed. a. The device must consist of 2 separate sections located on each side of the rear of the tractor with the combination of the 2 being strong enough to support the tractor. Skid plates are to be no less than 3 square inches of surface area at the ground contact point. b. Wheelie wheels must be at least 1 inch wide and 3 inches in diameter. 29. First 3 places will be checked in all classes. 30. Pump gasoline and gasoline additives (octane boosters/lead substitutes) will be the only permissible fuel. 31. SPEED The speed of all tractors, farm and garden, will be limited to no more than a brisk walking speed at all MATC pulling events. (Farm tractors must use 1st or 2nd gear, not to exceed 3.5 MPH) Lawn and Garden tractors not to exceed 3.5 MPH. Exception only--a tractor parade or trek. This is a set of general rules, and other instances may arise. Pulling officials have the final say on any new instances that may arise. All members must act in an orderly fashion at all times. 32. Lawn and Garden Tractors may add weight to tractors when going to the next heavier class.

TRACTOR CLASSES Class 1a: 650 pounds, up to 8 horsepower, must have running boards. Operators 5 years through 7 years only. Tractors must be equipped with a 6 foot lead to a kill switch. The kill device must be held at all times during the pull by an adult. Adult/Guardian must be registered with child. Two pulls allowed with the better of the two pulls counting for the final results. Class 1b: 750 pounds, up to 8 horsepower, must have running boards. Operators 8 years through 11 years only. Tractors must be equipped with a 6 foot lead to a kill switch. Class 3a: 1000 pounds, up to 16 horsepower. Operators 12 years through 16 years only. Class 3b: 1100 pounds, up to 16 horsepower. Operators 17 years and older. Class 3c: 1100 pounds, up to 16 horsepower. This class for hydro tractors only, 12-inch wheels only. Operators 17 years old and older. Class 4a: 1200 pounds, up to 20 horsepower, 12-inch wheels. Operators 12 years through 16 years only. Class 4b: 1300 pounds, up to 20 horsepower, 12 inch wheels. Operators 17 years and older. Class 5a: 1500 pounds, up to 20 horsepower. Operators 12 years through 16 years only. 15 inch and 16 inch wheels are permitted in this class. Class 5b: 1500 pounds, up to 20 horsepower. Operators 17 years and older. 15 inch and 16 inch wheels are permitted in this class. Class 6a: 2000 pounds, up to 20 horsepower. Operators 12 years through 16 years only. Original manufacturer wheel size, 12 inch hitch height, 30 year old tractor and older. May be pulled with or without wheelie bars. Class 6b: 2000 pounds, up to 20 horsepower. Operators 17 years and older. Original manufacturer wheel size, 12 inch hitch height, 30 year old tractor and older. May be pulled with or without wheelie bars.
