It s now 5 months since Dapol announced at the end of October 2008 their new releases for 2009. For those readers who missed their announcement or are new to the hobby. Here is an in depth look at them. For the first time Dapol have this year added to their catalogue generic icon keys. They are 1. FW = flywheels 2. DCC = DCC ready 3. A = accessory bag (contains brake pipes alternative couplings etc) 4. 40 = 40:1 gearing 5. DL = directional lighting 6. LFM= low friction mechanism 7. SC = self centring couplings 8. SB = Steel buffers 9. NEM = NEM coupling pockets 10. P = profile wheels 11. LBR = light bar ready. 12. SCM = super creep motor 13. CC = close coupling 14. IL = internal lighting 15. NEW FOR 2009. BRITANIA PACIFIC. 4 models will be released in 2009. They are. ND-095A 70000 Britannia. This locomotive is one of two members of the class preserved. ND-095B 70013 Oliver Cromwell. Was the last Britannia Pacific in revenue service for BR. After the last day specials it ran from Carlisle to Diss in Norfolk from where it was preserved at Alan Blooms Bressingham steam museum. It is now back on the mainline network. ND-095C 70038 Robin Hood. Named after the beloved rouge of Sherwood Forest. This engine spent a large part of its life at Immingham shed. Finishing its life at Carlisle. ND-95D 70050 Firth of Clyde. Despite its name this was a North Wales engine based at Holyhead shed. 70000, 70013 & 70038 are paired with BR1G tenders. 70050 is paired with a BR1C tender. Technical detail. DCC. NEM. P. A. 40. SCM. Release dates & price not known at this time. Livery BR lined Brunswick passenger Green. Which BR crests will be carried not know at this time. Period 5 depending on crest used. LBSCR TERRIER 0-6-0 TANK. See last issue for details of these small tank engines. CLASS 67 BO-BO DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES. Three single models & a twin pack featuring a class 67 & MK3 DVT. They are. Single locomotives. ND-101A 67001 Royal train locomotive. Livery claret with yellow ends & royal logo. ND-101B 67009 EWS. Livery red body with gold stripe & EWS logo under driver s window. Unnamed version. Period 9. ND-101C 67027 EWS. Livery red body with gold stripe & named Rising star. Name plate fitted under drivers cab window. Period 9. TWIN PACK. ND101 set 1. 67029 in EWS. Livery silver body with large EWS logo in centre of locomotive with matching Mk3 DVT. These vehicles for part of the EWS executive train. Period 9. This model is at the tech / cad drawing stage at the time of writing. TECHNICAL DETAILS. LFM A SCM FW DL DCC P. Release date & prices not know at this time. CLASS 86 BO-BO ELECTRIC. This is the first new model of a class 86 since the Lima / Wren micro models version from the early 1970 s. The Lima version was the nearest to scale. It was a little too wide. Single locomotives. ND-099A 86229 Virgin trains. Livery red & grey body with White body stripes & virgin logo with black front windows & yellow warning panels. Period 9. ND-099B 86213 BR Intercity. Livery body dark & light grey sides with red & white body stripes with black & yellow ends. Depending on the date of painting into intercity livery two logo s can be used. Intercity in white or intercity with Swallow logo in silver. Period 8. ND-099C 86621 Freightliner. Livery all green body with wrap round yellow ends. Period 9. ND-99D 86425 RES (Rail Express Systems) parcels & mail. Livery grey & red body with yellow & black ends. Period 8. This model is currently at the tech /cad drawing stage at the time of writing. TECHNICAL DETAILS. NEM LFM A FW SCM FW DL DCC P Release dates and prices not know at this time. CATENARY. To complement the new class 86 Dapol will be releasing single track Catenery masts. Two types will be released Long arm & short arm. This will give the correct prototype zig zag effect. Catenary zig zags on the prototype to even out the ware on the carbon pads that make contact with the overhead wires. Dapol state that these items are the first in a series of catenery masts. They are made from high impact plastic & are fitted with a screw threaded base. All the modeller needs to do is drill an hole in his/her baseboard fit the mast and tighten it using the wing nut provided. They will be available in packs of 5 or 10. Suitable for all periods of AC electrification. Prices and release dates to be confirmed. CLASS 58 CO-CO DIESEL. First planned by Dapol when they entered the N gauge market in At last a ready to run class 58. 4 models will be released they are. ND-103A 58012 in BR. Livery large logo railfreight Grey with red sole bars & black & yellow cabs. Period ND-103B 58023 In BR. Livery large logo grey body with red sole bars & black & yellow cabs. Period ND-103C 58042 in BR triple grey. Livery Triple grey body with yellow & black cabs with black sole bars. Period 8. ND-103D 58037 in EWS. Livery Red body with Gold body stripe with red lettering with black & yellow cabs. Period 9. BR hoped their modular construction would lead to export orders abroad. Sadly this never happened. Dapol will be releasing powered & dummy versions. Three liveries will be released for the first run. They are. POWERED SETS. ND-96A 156418 Central Trains. Livery light& dark green & blue body with black window surrounds with black & yellow ends. Please note the version shown in the 2009 catalogue is in Central livery but lettered for Anglian company ONE & not Central Trains. This version represents a unit transferred to One from Central trains within the last 2 years. Which version will be made is not known at this time. Period 9. ND-97A 156505 Strathclyde P.T.E. Livery orange body with black roof & windows with full yellow ends. These units work south to Carlisle & Newcastle. The later from Stranrarar. Period 8/9. ND-98A 156489 Arriva Trains Northern livery. This livery was introduced by Northern Spirit who was taken over by Arriva. The livery can still be seen today with the markings of Northern Rail replacing the Arriva lettering. Not Arriva North Western as printed in the Dapol catalogue. The former North Western franchise was run by First Group Now the operator of the Trans Pennine franchise. The North Western & Arriva trains franchise merged to become Northern Rail. Livery all over light blue body with large gold N on side with white Arriva lettering & black & yellow ends Period 9. CLASS14XX TWIN PACK. Two versions will be released. Both versions are for the Great Western period 3 with new running numbers. They are. ND-080 set 3 1467 in GWR livery Brunswick green & black body with GWR printed on side tank in yellow. The loco comes with 1 autocoach. Livery chocolate & cream body with white roof & GWR crest. Livery GWR chocolate & cream body with white roof & GWR shirt button crest. Please note the loco number this represents a loco from the 1930 s. The GWR renumbered the 0-4-2 tanks around this decade from class48xx to 14XX to allow the 48XX numbers to be used on new build 2-8-0 goods engines. The class 58XX non push pull versions retained their original numbers throughout their working lives. Period 3. These beautiful models have been upgraded to include NEM couplings on the loco & coach. They are being marketed by Dapol as Starter sets and are priced at 49.95 each. TECHNICAL DETAIL. NEM A CLASS14XX 0-4-2 TANKS (SINGLE). ND-104A 1438 BR. Livery plain black with early crest. Period 5. Livery lined Brunswick green with black smoke box & cab roof with BR late crest. Period 5. ND-106 5538 BR. Livery lined Brunswick green with black smoke box & cab roof with BR late crest. Period 5. These models are limited to 250 models per number. Price 44.95 B17 4-6-0 FOOTBALL CLASS See last issue for details of these superb models. Q1 0-6-0 TENDER ENGINE. Dapol have backdated this model to represent the Southern version of this unique Locomotives. Four numbers will be released. They are. ND-092A C11 SOUTHERN. Livery plain black with correct forward tender lettering. Period 3*. ND-092B C16 SOUTHERN. Livery details as above. Period 3. ND-092C C21 SOUTHERN. As above Period 3. ND-092D C28 SOUTHERN. As above Period 3. *This loco features forward tender lettering. The other 3 models feature lettering in the centre of the tender. These models have had the mechanical lubricator arms removed as this was fitted by BR. Due to demand Dapol will be releasing one new number on the BR version of the Q1. It is. The newly announced class 24 is now on show on the Bachmann stand. The model is in plain unpainted grey. From the picture I have seen it looks superb. The front end which gave them their nickname duke boxes it looks superb. The fronts look to be fitted with separate head code discs. They are moulded in black but will of course be white on the finished model DAPOL. Have released CAM/Cad updates for three of there Magnificent seven models announced last October. They are the CLASS 86 The amount of detail shown is amazing right down to the double line of rivets under the upper body side air intake grills. CLASS153. The detail shown on the Cad /Cam drawings again if transferred to the model will be superb. The CAD/Cam captures the box like body of these unique trains well. Also shown is the body panelling which is a distinctive feature on these units. Please note that release dates and liveries for the above models to be confirmed. That s all for this issue.
