PREFACE Congratulations on the purchase of your new Craig Manufacturing Ltd. Hydraulic Angling Ditching Bucket. This manual provides safety, operation and maintenance information. To keep your bucket in good condition, please read this manual and follow all recommendations. Failure to do so may invalidate your warranty. When parts or service are necessary contact Craig at 1-800-565-5007 for genuine Craig Parts. Before using your bucket, make sure your machine is equipped with all the OEM recommended requirements for digging. CRAIG FACTORY ORIGINAL PARTS The best way to ensure equipment reliability is to use only genuine Craig Manufacturing Ltd. Factory Original Parts. Our parts department can help you not only find the right part for your application but also offer advice and support for the repair. Using aftermarket non-approved parts can alter your bucket s performance characteristics and may affect your warranty. To help ensure that correct parts are ordered, please record the serial number of your bucket. Over time serial tags can become tarnished or difficult to read. Please supply this serial number to your dealership when ordering parts and it will ensure the correct part gets ordered. Serial: Machine: Model: In-Service Date: Purchased From:

SAFETY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Improper installation and/or operation of your Craig Manufacturing Ltd. attachments can cause bodily injury, property damage, and damage to your equipment. Read and understand labels and this booklet before operating or making adjustments. Failure to do so may affect your warranty. HYDRAULIC SAFETY Always inspect hydraulic components before operating your bucket. Replace any damaged or worn parts immediately. Lower the bucket when the machine is not in use. Temperature changes can change hydraulic pressure, allowing the bucket to drop unexpectedly causing injury or damaging hydraulic components. Hydraulic fluid under pressure can cause bodily harm. If you suspect a hydraulic leak use a piece of wood or cardboard to investigate, DO NOT use your hand. If you are injured by hydraulic fluid, seek medical attention immediately. WARNING LABELS Become familiar with and inform users about all warning and instruction labels on the back of your attachment. NOTE: If labels are missing or cannot be read, call 1-800-565-5007 to get replacements. PERSONAL SAFETY Remove ignition key and immobilize the machine during installation, inspection or service. Always follow safe work practices when installing servicing or inspecting your bucket by wearing only snug-fitting clothing, removing jewelry, and securing long hair. Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from hydraulic fluid, sparks, dirt and dust. Always have a fire extinguisher rated BC on hand for flammable liquid and electrical fires. Lift with your legs. Get help and use lifting equipment when applicable. Never trust that the hydraulic system will not fail. Do not work under or around heavy items not supported by stands, blocks or safety chains.

OVERVIEW GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BUCKET NOTE: YOUR BUCKET MAY NOT APPEAR EXACTLY AS SHOWN

OVERVIEW GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BUCKET NOTE: YOUR BUCKET MAY NOT APPEAR EXACTLY AS SHOWN

OVERVIEW TERMINOLOGY Upper Hinge Weldment: Bucket Weldment: Bolt-on Edge: Main Hinge Pin: Cylinder Pin Lock: Kickstand: This is where the bucket attaches to your excavator, either to a coupler or a direct pin-on to the machine. This is the part of the bucket which rotates or tilts 45 either way from horizontal. This is intended as a replaceable wear edge for your bucket. With regular use it will wear and should be replaced in order to protect the rest of the bucket from premature wear. This is the pin which the whole bucket rotates on. This is the lock collar which holds the cylinder pins from turning in the cylinder lugs. This is for propping up your bucket when it is not in use. ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS Serrated Bolt-on Edge: Quick Disconnect Hosing: This edge improves penetration of the bucket and acts almost like teeth. These allow the operator to quickly disconnect from the HADC and switch attachments on the worksite.

OPERATION SETTING UP THE BUCKET A Craig Hydraulic Angling Ditching Bucket requires some initial set up before use. It is important to ensure that all hydraulic lines (jumper hoses and whip hoses) are not going to interfere with the bucket when it is angled one way or the other. It is also important to bleed all the air out of the hydraulic lines in order to avoid getting air lock in the system, causing the bucket to not hold a load. HADCs are intended to work on a 2500psi hydraulic circuit and should see approximately 8gpm to function properly. The flow rate will vary based on the size of the cylinders. For more information about recommended pressure and flow rate, please call techincal support at 1-800-565-5007. It is important to grease your bucket regularly. A Craig HADC has grease fittings on every moving point on the bucket. Greasing your bucket from the time it is new will help to ensure smooth operation over its lifetime. More information on greasing areas and procedures can be found in the maintenance section of this manual. When pinning a bucket to a wedge lock style of coupler, there are several fit up features of notice. A new bucket and a new coupler will fit like like the image below. It s important to note is how the middle boss of the coupler sits on the side of the saddle on the bucket and how the wedge (on the left) does not engage completely when tightened. With time, the faces in contact will all wear and the wedge will engage further and middle boss can bottom out on the saddle, ensuring a tight fit over the life of the coupler and bucket. Once the bucket is set up hydraulically, greased and pinned securely to the excavator, familiarize yourself with the controls of the bucket s tilt feature before beginning to use the bucket. If your bucket is being used on an excavator with a thumb, watch for possible interference with the thumb when the bucket is tilted. A Craig HADC is a ditching/cleanup bucket and is not intended to work as a dig bucket. Using it in such applications can result in damage as well as premature wear to the bucket. When digging in hard ground or rock, use a Craig HD, HDX or SS bucket.

MAINTENANCE Craig HADCs require some maintenance to ensure a long and trouble free life. The most crucial maintenance tip required for an HADC is greasing. Greasing the pins on your bucket daily with use will help to ensure smooth operation over its lifetime. A well-greased pin keeps the metal to metal contact to a minimum and with it minimizes wear. A proper greasing technique involves pumping grease onto the fitting until you can visibly see the grease coming out around the pin. It is important to have grease come out into the gap around the pin because it protects the area surrounding the pin from dirt getting in and causing abrasive wear on your pins. There are usually five grease points on a Craig HADC: the main hinge pin and the four cylinder pins. On the current design of Craig HADCs these pins are all drilled and tapped with grease fittings specifically to keep the pins and bushings lubricated. It s strongly recommended that the hinge and cylinder area gets dirt and debris cleaned from it frequently when in operation. Operating the bucket tilted to one side for an extended period then tilting it the other direction can cause debris to be pinched underneath the cylinders and cause damage to the cylinders, hosing or the hinge mechanism. Regular bucket wear will occur on HADCs as well. Bolt on edges are expected to wear, and are double beveled with the intention to be reversible for when the leading edge has worn. INSPECTION BEFORE USE Check all bolts and nuts. Tighten any loose bolts or replace if they are worn or missing. When replacing worn or missing bolts, do not replace with bolts that are smaller or of a different grade. Check the cutting edge for wear. When replacing the cutting edges, the bolts, nuts and lock washers should be replaced with new ones. Check pins for excessive play or wear. Check hosing for frayed braiding or abrasive wear. STORING THE BUCKET When storing your HADC a few maintenance tips can help to ensure it s ready for the next season: Cap the hydraulic hoses. This will help to ensure that oil does not leak out and moisture does not get into the hydraulic lines of the bucket. Grease all the fittings. This will help to keep rust and dirt away from the pins. Grease points are shown in image below. Keep in mind both ends of the main hinge pin have separate grease fittings. GREASE LOCATIONS ON CYLINDER AND MAIN HINGE PINS.

MAINTENANCE PAINT The finish on your Craig attachment has been applied with a special primer and adhesion enhancer to promote a durable finish. Because of the nature of heavy equipment attachments scrapping and wear are normal. The finish on your Craig attachment is not covered under warranty. For best results your Craig HADC should be cleaned, inspected and re-painted at the end of each season. Matching paint and primer can purchased from your local original equipment dealer. TECHNICAL SUPPORT If you have followed the maintenance instructions contained in this manual you should have years of trouble-free operation from your Craig attachment. Should you encounter any issue or have any questions about your bucket please contact us at 1-800-565-5007 and ask for technical support. READING YOUR PRODUCT ID TAG Craig Manufacturing Ltd. stamps a blue serial tag onto every attachment. The tag is often located on the rear of the attachment in the upper left corner. The information contained on this tag will be required for parts and support. Craig serial numbers begin with a T followed by the year then month of construction. For example T1203 would denote the year 2012 and 03 the month of March.
