TRANSIT TIME FLOW METERS NEW GENERATION GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Transit Time Flow Meter of TTFM100/2009 NEW GENERATION series measures flow rate by calculating the spreading time of an ultrasonic wave in a liquid, going upstream and downstream into a pipe. This flow meter is mostly used to measure the flow rate of homogeneous fluids, also with a quite high percentage of suspended solids. The measuring system is composed of a couple of ultrasonic transducers acoustically coupled to the external pipe s wall (it is also possible to use transducers in direct contact with fluid to be measured- called wetted sensors) and a HOST unit elaborating the signal that are sent and received from the transducers. The HOST unit has a DSP microprocessor, it gives signals for interfacing with the process or the control systems. TTFM100-F1-NG TTFM100-F2000-NG TTFM100-B-HH-NG Main The TTFM100/2009 N.G. series includes a range of flow meters whose electronics is composed of a single board: high precision, high fidelity, high competitively. The devices main features are: TTFM100-F18-NG TTFM200-F3-NG TT100/8812NG Clamp-on sensors: it is not necessary to stop the flow to install them; Wetted sensors. AC and DC supply: 85..264 VAC and 24 VDC. The time difference during the measuring process could be 0.2 ns. Analog (4-20 ma), pulses (relays), frequency (OCT) and MODBUS RS485outputs. All the measures could be driven to the RS485 in order to save data into a PC remotely transmitted by telemetry. The measuring principle of TTFM100/2009 N.G. transit time flow meters use two transducers, shown in the pictures below, which work as ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The transducers are clamped on the outside part of a closed full pipe at a specific distance from each other. The transducers can be mounted in Z-mode, where the transducers are mounted on the opposite sides of the pipe; V-mode, as shown in picture B; W-mode, where the sound transverses the pipe four times. The selection of the transducers mounting method is based on pipe size, liquid characteristics and hydraulic condition. The flow meter operates by alternately transmitting and receiving a modulated burst frequency of sound energy between the two transducers. The burst is firstly transmitted in the direction of flow and then against the direction of flow. Since sound energy in a moving liquid is carried faster when it travels in the direction of flow (downstream) than when it travels against the direction of flow (upstream), it will cause a difference in the times of flight (differential time). If the fluid is not moving, the differential time will be zero and the flow meter will indicate zero flow. The sounds time of flight are accurately measured in both directions and their differential time is calculated. The liquid velocity (V) inside the pipe can be related to the differential time (dt) by using the following equation: V = K*D*dt, where K is a constant and D is the distance between the transducers.
