Step 1 Parts & Tools Overview Getting Started First, make sure you have all the parts and tools required to install your shades. Motorization with No Valance - Remote Control ALL THE HARDWARE YOU LL NEED: Pencil, screw-driver, ¼ nut driver, level, and a drill with a 1 16 drill bit. Then find wooden studs where you ll want to attach the brackets; if you need to mount your shades to wallboard or plaster, use a secure fastener designed for hollow wall applications. For metal surfaces, pre-drill holes and use the included screws. For concrete, stone, brick, or tile surfaces, use a masonry drill and appropriate plugs, anchors, or screws. Headrail It s important when selecting a fastener to make sure it s designed to support the weight of the shade. Follow the fastener manufacturer s instruction from there on out. Step 2 Mounting s Step 3 Hanging the Shade Inside Mount Shades without Headrail Mount the brackets to the top of the window frame. Make sure the brackets are aligned. Support Nub Once the brackets are secured and level, the fabric roll can be inserted. Make sure your hands are clean to avoid soiling the shade. Idler Post V-Slot Insert the foot of the motor-side bracket into the slotted center hole of the motor end of the shade. The wire should be positioned so that it goes up on an inside mount or back on an outside mount. This will provide easy Outside Mount The installation brackets are always mounted so that the inner surfaces face each other. s must be in line and level. Motor Side Idler Side Foot T-Hook access to the setting key. Set the post of the idler end into the V of the support bracket. Rotate the T-hook on the support bracket to engage over the nub to secure the fabric roll. Extension s (optional) Optional Extension s are used to project the back of the shade up to 2 1 2" from the mounting surface. Step 4 Attaching the Power Source Step 4 Attaching the Power Source Attaching the Power Source When attaching the Power Source to the shade, first plug the battery pack wire into the motor wire. (see illustration to right) Noting the length of the wire, determine the best location for the battery pack. The pack may be mounted to the window casing, the wall or behind the fabric roll (if space permits). Before mounting the pack make sure that the pack and excess wire will not interfere with the operation of the shade. Extension wires are available if needed. Battery Pack Attach and twist clockwise until tight (do not overtighten) Battery Wire Motor Wire Attaching the Transformer (optional) Plug the transformer wire into the motor wire. Secure the wire behind the shade and along the window casing as desired. Plug the transformer into an electrical outlet. If the wire is not long enough to reach, optional 48 extension wires are available. Battery Pack Clips - Wall Mounting Wall mount - attach the pack clips with the screws provided. Overview Step 2 Mounting s Motorization with Decorative Cassette - 2 on 1 Headrail, Remote Control, and Wand Control Decorative Cassette 2" Inside Mount Center the shade in the window frame. Mark the position of the brackets. End brackets should be located 2" in from each end. Mount the brackets to the top of the window frame. Make sure the brackets are aligned. Space additional brackets evenly between two end brackets. Be sure to leave space between brackets for battery pack. 1 2 3 4 5 Bottom Bar Remote Control Side Mount (optional) Measure from window sill up to desired mounting position. Mount Side Mount s on each side of window frame as shown. Make sure to confirm that headrail will sit perfectly level. Once Side Mount s are installed and properly positioned, attach the Standard Mounting s using the nuts and bolts provided. Mark the position of the bracket on the wall. End brackets should be located 2" from each end. Mount the brackets to the wall. Make sure the mounting brackets are level. Step 4 Hanging the Shade Hanging the Shade Battery Pack Mounting Pack Clip Insert the rail into the opening of the bracket. Push the rail back until it is fully engaged. Attach the pack clips to the headrail as pictured. Then press the battery into place. Shade Removing the Shade To remove the shade, partially lower the shade and insert a flat head screwdriver as shown. Step 3 Hanging the Shade Step 4 Attaching the Power Source Hanging the Shade Once the brackets are secured and level, the fabric roll can be inserted. Make sure your hands are clean to avoid soiling the fabric. Support T-Hook Battery Pack Battery Wire Motor Wire Attaching the Power Source Plug the battery pack wire into the motor wire. Noting the length of the wire, determine the best location for the battery pack. Insert the foot of the control side The pack may be mounted to the bracket into the slotted center hole of the clutch. Set nub of the end plug into the V of the support bracket. Rotate Attach and twist clockwise until tight (do not overtighten) window casing, the wall or behind the fabric roll (if space permits). Before mounting the pack make sure that the the T-hook on the support bracket to pack and excess wire will not interfere engage over the nub on the idler and secure the fabric roll. Nub with the operation of the shade. Extension wires are available if needed. Attaching the Transformer (optional) Plug the transformer wire into the motor wire. Secure the wire behind the shade and along the window casing as required. Plug the transformer into an electrical outlet. If the wire is not long enough to reach, optional 48 extension wires are available. Attach Battery Pack Clips Wall mount - attach the pack clips with the screws provided. Step 5 Attaching the Valance Step 5 Attaching the Valance Attaching the Valance Attach the valance by first hooking the top lip of the valance panel onto the bracket as shown. Swing the bottom of the valance panel towards the bracket and gently press at the bottom of the panel until the lip on the valance engages and snaps lock to the bracket. Valance Cover Peel & Stick Tape Valance Cover - Outside Mount You will be attaching the valance bracket cover to the valance bracket with the peel & stick tape provided is on the back of the brackets. Before you remove the tape backing, line up the bracket cover in the correct position to ensure proper fit. After you have determined the correct position of the bracket cover, peel off the tape backing and simply press the it onto the end of the bracket. Operating the Remote Controls Optional Remote Control Hold Down Select the desired channel with the CHANNEL key. The channel indicator light will illuminate the channel that is on. If all 5 lights are lit, the remote will control all 5 channels at once. Tapping the UP or DOWN keys for less than 2 seconds will move the shade in short steps. Holding the UP or DOWN keys down for more than 2 seconds before releasing, will operate the shade in the faster standard speed. 1 2 3 4 5 Channel Display Up Stop Down Channel + Channel Optional Hold Down s are mounted with the supplied screws. With the shade at its proper drop, place the pin of each Hold Down into the hole in each End Cap and make sure the pins are level and aligned. Raise the shade, then screw the Hold Down into the mounting surface. Skew Adjustment Press the UP or DOWN keys to raise or lower the shade. Press the STOP key to stop the shade anywhere along the window. Refer to the Motorization Guide for additional details. Wand Controls Touch & Go Feature: To fully raise or lower the shade, simply press the UP or DOWN button for 2 seconds and release. The shade will automatically stop when it reaches the upper or lower limit. (See the Motorization Guide if the upper or lower limits are not set at the desired positions) Tapping the UP or DOWN keys for less than 2 seconds will move the shade in short steps. Holding the UP or DOWN keys down for more than 2 seconds before releasing, will operate the shade in the faster standard speed. Up Down Fabric Roll Place tape at this end If the shade does not raise evenly, first make sure the mounting brackets are mounted level with each other. If the shade is level and it still skews, operate the shade to the full down position. Prepare a strip of masking tape approximately 5 long. On the side of the shade opposite of the skewing direction, and as close to the end of the roller as possible, lift the fabric toward the back of the shade using your fingers and slide the tape with the sticky side facing the roller up as far as possible. The tape is to be running parallel to the roller. Roll the shade up and check for skewing. If the shade is still skewing, add another strip of tape on top of the first one. If the shade is now skewing in the opposite direction, tear off about 1 of tape from the last strip installed. The tape is to be torn from the end closest to the center of the shade. Press the DOWN or UP button to lower or raise the shade. Press the opposite button to stop the shade at the desired position. Care & Cleaning /Safety Troubleshooting Care & Cleaning Occasional light vacuuming with a soft bristle attachment or gentle feather dusting is all that is required to keep your shades looking fresh and neat. PROBLEM The motor does not work The motor continues to run in one direction SOLUTION 1. Check that the power source and motor are connected properly. 2. Confirm the batteries are fresh. The limit setting was unsuccessful and needs to be reset. Safety First. Style Second To None. Great style should never come at the cost of safety. Every Smith & Noble window treatment conforms strictly to today s safety standards, including permanent tie-down devices and built-in cord stops. To protect young children and pets, there s no better way to eliminate risk than to use one of our cordless products. Child Safety The indicator light on the remote does not shine or the remote-controlling range becomes shorter. The motor stops working or works intermittently Replace the battery in the remote (CR2430 Lithium) Replace the batteries in the wand with 8 fresh AA alkaline batteries. The warranty applies to the original owner, requires a proof of purchase and covers defects in material or craftsmanship. Shades or blinds must have been properly installed.
