Drain coolant into suitable container. Fan Shroud Removal & Installation Fan Removal 2. Remove radiator fan clips and bolts, then the upper and lower shrouds.

Disconnect No. 2 and No. 3 air hoses from air pipe. 5. Remove the four nuts and cooling fan, and also air conditioning compressor drive belt, if equipped. Timing Belt Components 6. Remove alternator drive belt, fluid coupling, belt guide and fan pulley. Spark Plug Wire Retainer Removal

Remove spark plug wire retainers and the 11 bolts holding the No. 2 timing belt cover. Fig. 6 Aligning Timing Marks 8. Place No. 1 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke by turning the crankshaft pulley and aligning pulley groove with the ``0'' mark on the No. 1 timing belt cover. Ensure alignment marks on the camshaft timing sprockets and the No. 3 timing belt cover are correctly aligned, Fig. 6. 9. If not, turn the crankshaft pulley one complete revolution. Camshaft Matchmarks Alignment 10. Remove timing belt tensioner by loosening the 2 bolts alternately, then remove them, the belt tensioner and dust boot.

If the original timing belt is going to be used, draw a direction arrow on the timing belt (in direction of engine rotation) and place alignment marks on the pulley and timing belt, Fig. 7. 14. Remove the camshaft timing sprocket, No. 1 idler pulley and the crankshaft timing sprocket. 6. Remove air intake chamber after performing the following: a. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector. b. Disconnect the canister vacuum hose from the throttle body. c. Disconnect the vacuum and fuel hoses from the pressure regulator. d. Disconnect the PCV hose from the union. No. 4 Water By-pass Hose e. Disconnect the No. 4 water by-pass hose from the union of intake manifold. No. 5 Water By-pass Hose f. Remove the No. 5 water by-pass hose from the water by-pass pipe.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel filter. i. Remove the union bolt, two gaskets and cold start injector tube. j. On California models, disconnect the EGR gas temperature sensor. k. Disconnect the EGR vacuum hoses from the air pipe and EGR vacuum modulator. l. Remove the nut, bolt, and intake chamber stay. m. On California & Canada models, disconnect the two water by-pass hoses from the EGR valve. n. Remove the five nuts, EGR valve with pipes and two gaskets. EGR Components o. Disconnect the No. 1 air hose from the reed valve. No. 1 Air Hose/Reed Valve p. Remove the six bolts, two nuts, air intake chamber and gasket. Intake Chamber Removal

No. 2 water temperature switch connector c. Start injector time switch connector d. Water temperature switch connector e. Water temperature sender gauge connector f. RH ground strap from No. 3 camshaft bearing cap g. Injector connectors. 18. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the BVSV. No. 2 And 3 Fuel Pipes 9. Remove the four union bolts, No. 2, No.3 fuel pipes and eight gaskets. 0. Remove the four bolts and the No. 4 timing belt cover. No. 4 Timing Belt Cover Removal 1. Remove the four bolts and No. 2 idler pulley. No. 2 Idler Pulley And No. 3 Timing Belt Cover

No. 3 Timing Belt Cover Delivery Pipe And Injectors 23. On the RH side, remove two nuts and two spacers, then remove the RH delivery pipe with injectors and spacers. Remove the two spacers. 24. On the LH side, remove two nuts and two spacers, then remove the LH delivery pipe with injectors and spacers. Remove the two spacers. Water By-Pass Outlet 5. Disconnect the No. 3 water hose from the water by-pass pipe, then remove the water by-pass outlet. 26. Remove the twelve bolts, four nuts, intake manifold, and two gaskets. Intake Manifold Inspecting Intake & Exhaust Manifolds And Air Intake Chamber 7. Maximum warpage of intake manifold is 0.10 mm (0.039 in). If warpage exceeds specifications, replace the intake manifold.
