Traffic Impacts What Drivers Can Expect Lee Hwy & Fairfax Drive (Fire Lane) Early 2019 Summer 2020 Fairfax Drive (Fire Lane) closed to thru traffic for duration of bridge construction Emergency access maintained via easily moved elements (or drive over/through) Lee Highway short-term closures/traffic stoppage (20 minutes max) when bridge girders/beams are erected Some operations such as bridge construction, paving, and pavement markings may require lane closures on side streets Public notification via email distribution and/or project website (prior to shifting traffic) Virginia Department of Transportation 19
Nighttime Work What Neighbors Can Expect Vicinity of Lee Hwy / Fairfax Drive (Fire Lane) / W&OD Trail Noisy activities such as pile driving will be avoided at night when possible Noise to expect at night includes back-up alarms on equipment and trucks (necessary to protect worker safety, especially in tight work zones) Lighting of the construction work area will be directed to minimize light pollution for nearby residents Public notifications via email and/or project website prior to major traffic switches or nighttime work Virginia Department of Transportation 20
Pedestrian/Bicyclist Impacts What Trail Users Can Expect W&OD Trail Early 2019 Fall 2020 Temporary Trail Re-Alignment (within NOVA Parks property) to permit bridge construction Temporary detour (with directional signage) during girder/overhead activity W&OD short-term closures/traffic stoppage (20 minutes max) during nighttime when bridge beams are erected over Lee Hwy Public notification via email distribution and/or project website (prior to shifting traffic) Virginia Department of Transportation 21
