This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a talented, energetic and dedicated individual. Opportunity available in choice of Lincoln, Omaha, Columbus, Gering, North Platte, McCook or Ainsworth, NE. Applicants who will meet the degree requirements by August 2016 will be considered. The successful applicant will be closely mentored and given every opportunity to learn the different facets of field engineering by being exposed to the work assigned to a district office. Upon completion of the program, every opportunity will be made to place the successful applicant in the Division or District where they would prefer to continue their career with the Nebraska Department of Roads. Will learn and gain experience with various facets of highway construction including plan reading, surveying, construction inspection, materials testing, pavement, structures and project management. Attend and assist in pre-construction meetings and conferences. Perform routine administrative work in the maintenance of records and reports. Maintain accurate measurements and documentation of project pay items. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E. license). Other: A valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required. Bachelor's degrees outside of the United States must be ABET certified at the time of application; applicants with a Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution within the United States will be considered. 3 Highway Construction Technician II $16.39 /Hour OPENING DATE: 06/22/16 07/06/16 11:59 PM Chadron Successful applicants will be under immediate supervision and trained to perform standard tests on construction material and inspections in routine phases of construction projects, and/or participate as a member of a highway construction or a preliminary design survey crew. If unable to fill at the Highway Construction Technician II level, will consider applicants at the Highway Construction Technician I level at $13.39/hour (effective July 1). Applicants hired at this level do not have to possess an Associate s degree or meet the NDOR course requirements. Operate transit, level and other surveying instruments as a survey crew member. Inspect and accept or reject materials and work on assigned phases of construction projects such as culverts, bridges, earthwork, asphalt and concrete paving, guardrail, lighting, seeding, etc. Perform necessary tests on concrete consisting of slump, air content, and cylinders for strength testing. Shut down projects for safety violations; monitor and report other violations to the next higher-level authority. Prepare, maintain and submit inspection reports and records on inspection assignments. Accept or reject materials and contractor's work. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors and the public. Drive commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Operate snow removal equipment to assist State Maintenance. REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Experience in performing activities pertinent to construction work such as surveying, materials testing, or field inspections OR coursework or training in construction surveying, materials testing, or inspections practices, and in using associated instruments and equipment. PREFERRED: Post high school coursework/training in surveying or construction. Experience in record keeping, trigonometry, geometry, basic computer and the operation of heavy equipment or snow removal equipment. Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement. Material testing certifications such as ACI, Nuclear Density, or traffic control training from ATSSA.
